Yes it could, a alternator has air passages in its case to allow for cooling. If those holes are blocked the alt. could overheat and fail.

If you have a 3.1 it is on top of the engine but if you have a 3.4 you have to take the right side tire off then remove the transaxle then it will come out through the hole where the transaxle was 3hrs repair time. I have one of these.

also you do not have to drop the engine as some repair manuals tell you.

2000 bravada alternator is located on top of the motor with the universal belt wrapped around it which engine? in the the 4.3L the alternator is located on the driver side, on the 2.2 the alternator is located on the passager side. As you don't say what make and model car, all I can tell you is to look at the belt or belts on your engine. One of these is connected to the alternator.

Some imports have a adjuster that is under the pivot bolt...check this.Also there may be a nut on the back side that is spinning. The threads are not left hand.

Don't take this in place of a real technician, but here are a few things I've learned after recently replacing the alternator on my '89 240dl. They are probably a bit different in the details but most alternators are somewhat similar. On mine it is on the lower left hand side of the engine block as you face the front of the car. Make sure that you actually need the alternator as there are a few other things that can cause it to seem like the alternator is broken. When you do find the alternator, and you are sure you want to work on it, be sure to first turn the radio off (microprocessor) and also disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. On my car, the alternator is held on by 2 bolts which are not difficult to take off. Don't lose these. Also as a general note be sure to Write Down Where Everything came from. This will save you headaches, trust me. On the back, my alternator was hooked up by three wires-power, dash light, and ground. When you get the replacement make sure these are all where they were on the old one. If you take the old one in for a core exchange, go ahead and get the shop to put the pulley on for you, and be sure to check the back of the new alternator to make sure that it has the same voltage regulator as well as any other misc. plugs. Once you get the new alt. in, the things to check are 1. wires are on correctly, cleanly and tightly 2. belts are tensioned to spec 3. bolts are tight. Then hook the battery back up and turn the car on. Check to make sure that the warning lights come on and then go out. If they stay on, something is not right. Finally, make sure that the alternator is actually working by checking the voltage of the battery while the engine is at about 2000 rpm with the headlights on. the voltage should read between 13 and 15 volts. This shows that the alternator is charging the battery. A couple final notes: Don't take this advise without consulting other sources. *Make sure* you have a fresh battery. Good luck!

alternator belt on any vehicle should be tight enuff that you can push down about 1/8 of and inch on the longest straightest part of belt if engine has a serpentine belt, the belt tensioner will automatically keep belt at correct tension and you don't need to worry bout it unless your rensioner is not working correctly

disconnect battery then pull off pass tire to access alternator preferably with jack stands alternator has upper bolt and lower bolt loosen lower bolt and bracket that contains 3 bolts. on top of alternator is upper bracket that holds alternator in place the tensioner is facing firewall loosen tensioner all the way out then finally loosen top alternator bolt [ the tensioner bolt actually goes through top bolt which is not visible until you take it out} disconnect alternator

Start, or jump start the vehicle. while the engine is running (on its own after jump), remove the positive cable form the battery. The test results are: if the engine continues to run, then the alternator is supplieing electricity to the engine. If not, then the engine is receiving electicty only from the battery, which is why it the engine stops when it is disconnected. Same result when the voltage level becomes to low from the electrial source.

So, if your half way home and the engine fails. when you get a jump let it charge for fifteen miniuts or longer. this will build up the battery and get you home. now you can save some money and replace the alternator over the weekend.

Check your 100 amp mega fuse (located on the side of the power junction box) under the hood, driver's side. It has 2 large red wires going to it. Use a digital multimeter set to ohms. If the fuse is good your meter should read 0.0 or close to it. If your meter reads OL it means your fuse is blown. Most dealerships sell this fuse for less than $10.00

ask an auto electrician to check the Over Voltage Relay. It lives under the dash above drivers legs. It has a Zennon type regulator and a fuse which can b replaced if its blowen. Its about 50 X 50 X 75mm in size and is silver in colour. Failure of unit can affect many of the electrics in the 300e

I have had 4 Aerostars all together and here is my guess to your problem. I had some problems with battery corrosion that caused the battery not to charge, be sure to clean both terminals good even if they look ok. That was my problem and it happened to me several times. I also had a bad starter that would drain the battery real fast It sounded like the battery was getting weak, I replaced the battery but finally the stater failed after a month or so. Make sure the fan belt is not loose. Try to check and make sure no accessories are on, like dome lights caused by a bad door switch. I have also seen home install on stereos that connect to the battery instead of the accessory's side of the fuse block. So the stereo gets left on, low volume of course and drains the battery over night. Hope this helps... :) yes, your clock on the radio, and some sensors still are running after you shut the key off.

is there a quick way to remove alternator

I drove mine today, it was fine while the battery had over 9 or 10 volts, but once the battery died, the car (4WD, mitsu challenger) started driving poorly, and then stopped when I pulled over. Not sure if I did any damage yet.

If it is a SI (Spark ignition) engine then you can drive so long as the battery has sufficient charge. A CI (Compression ignition) engine does not rely on an electrical ignition and will drive without the alternator or battery.

Most newer cars will not run at all without a fully charged battery. The alternator alone is not sufficient to handle the operation of all the electronics, let alone headlamps and such. You also need the battery installed just to start the car!!

you have to remove the radiator and fans and all the covers and then the alternator will be a piece of cake to pull out and replace
