Alternators

Its on the top. Just some simple tools, remove the belt, and un-bolt. Its the easiest thing that Ford did with the car.

It is a pretty simple task. First take the negative battery cable off then remove the wires from the back of the alternator.Then remove the top bolt and then the lower bolt and pull the alterntor out. Good luck.

no the car wont start because the battery is dead, it was discharged by running it and not being recarged by the alt

Remove the plug,and 2 other wires from the back of the alternator.Then loosen the tensioner and take off the belt.I was able to remove the unit up and out by loosening the top radiator hose and then pulling the alternator out though it is a very tight fit.Out the bottom didn't work for me on my 89 240 SX.Good luck.

In a vehicle, it is the electrical strap that connects the engine to the rest of the car. The purpose is to make sure all electrical devices have a good electrical connection and to prevent static in the radio.

In appliances it is a wire that connect the appliance to a permanent grounding device. The purpose is to prevent injury to the people who might touch the appliance.

In a vehicle an earth ground strap is also a strap that drains static electricity off the car to the ground. They prevent painful static shocks when exiting the vehicle and eliminate electrostatic discharge ESD responsible for fire at gas stations.

If you are getting unusually high or low ( or no ) pressure reading and the engine has not started to become very noisy on the top end then the switch may be going bad. If the low oil pressure reading is indicating an actual lack of oil pressure the engine will heat up quickly and become noisy, lifters and cams first then crank later. Dont push it to that have the unit checked right away to avoid costly repairs. Your vehicle is equipped with OBDII diagnostic computer so a oil light will trigger some kind of trouble code even if it does not prompt the check engine light so have the codes read as well.

The alternator went out on my Celica as well, i was silly enough to leave the parking lights on all night, as i was driving at dusk and didnt see the need to have the headlights popped up. Basically there are 3 bolts that need to be taken off. There's one that holds the alternator in place, one that keeps it flush against the engine, and one on the bracket. (This is if i remember correctly) I recommend you disconnect the battery for this, as any mistake could cause disaster. Once the battery is disconnected, you unplug the alternator. Easy done. First bolt I recommend you take off is the bracket. That is only there to keep it steady. I would then take off the bolt that holds it tight against the engine. (At this point it may be best to have a mate there helping you) You need to make sure the alternator doesnt move when its still connected to the engine, because chances are, the bolt will bend under the weight of the alternator. Taking this final bolt off is simple enough, then its just a case of wiggling the alternator off the brace, and its yours. Goodluck.

Find an ammeter to find out what the starter is pulling. If the starter is pulling too much current, you probably need to replace the starter, but don't just go off replacing parts until you test them. Apparantly that plan didn't work to well for you when you replaced the battery and alternator. Always test first!

On any alternator you can check with a voltmeter -- disconnect the positive going to the alternator, use a towel or electrical tape to isolate it, then start the car and you should read DC volts accross the terminal of 12-16v if the diodes are working, if they arent switch it to AC -- if you read > 2v your diodes are shorted I'm pretty sure the diodes and regulator are integrated into the Alternator -- so just replace that, otherwise you can take it off and they can check it at any Kragens for free.

There is a plug with either 2 or 3 wires plugged in to the side of the alternator that can be unplugged. With the engine running at slow idle unplug that plug and note whether engine speed picks up slightly and then plug it back in and notice if engine speed slows down slightly. If engine speed increases and decreases as I've described your alternator is working because when it is actually charging it uses more horsepower. If the engine speed does not change your alternator is not working.

Another simple way to to test the alternator with a volt meter at the battery with the engine running. If you read between 13.5 to 16 volts it is more than likely good. Less than 13.5 and it is defective.

The battery is under the hood on the driver side. You need to remove the air cleaner lid to see the battery.

Alternators have several wires connected to them. Check to make sure that all of the wires are on the proper terminals. If you disconnected the battery check all of the connections there as well. If these connections are good, then check the main fusible links to make sure one has not blown.

take the old one off...put the new one on reversing what u did when taking old one off. make.sure.battery.is.disconnected

The voltage regulator is on the back of the alternator. It is a part of the alternator.

The purpose of an Alternator is to periodically recharge the battery while the engine is on.

The 93 Acclaim has a serpentine belt. The tensioner below the alternator is what keeps the tension. If you have not tension I would replace the belt first and then check the tensioner.

remove lower covers under passenger side. above power steering pump is smallest pulley. it is spring loaded tensioner for belt. put 13mm socket-rachet on it and turn bolt clockwise, thus relieving tension. install new belt in proper path and unload pulley again while slipping belt over this pulley. Takes some patience. onceon youre done. all auto adjusting.

You should only have to take out 2 bolts and take off a belt. When replacing an alternator you usually want to replace the belt to.

I have a 1997 Firebird V-6. It is right on top. Just remove the serpentine belt from the alternator, unplug the electrical connection on the back of the alternator, remove the mounting bolts and install the new alternator.

I have not replaced one in my bird yet, but I checked the Hanes manual and it is the same.

I am not a professional mechanic, but I have replaced a few in my lifetime.
