Your Hero should be someone that actually DOES something. For example, if your hero is Taylor Lautner or someone Famous, you need to change it. All they do is sing or act, they do nothing to be your true hero! You could have someone that fights and DIES for YOUR country so YOU, YOURSELF can have freedom. What are the similarities between Beowulf the book and Beowulf the movie?
I read the epic poem and saw the movie. The movie stays pretty close to the movie except for two main points. Warning, these are spoilers.
In the book Beowulf goes back to (the land of the Geat's) Geatland to become king of his uncles kingdom. In the movie he stays in (the land of the Danes) Denmark and becomes king of Hrothgar's kingdom. In the poem Beowulf kills Grendel's mom. In the movie they make love and have a human beast like creature son (a dragon as a son). Although, in the film Beowulf returns and says he kills her so I guess one could argue it stays in line with the poem that way. In the book she could be still alive and they do the same thing but it doesn't say so we will never know. Also the in the poem there is a larger social backdrop of this type of society that wants peace and stability but that is at odds with a heroic culture of honor and revenge. In the movie they only touch on that very briefly when Beowulf comments on that the age of heroes is giving way to Christianity.What were the most important events between 1960 and the present?

There are two very important components to the epic hero.
The first component is the obvious thing about the accomplishments he or she makes in the external world. Because we're talking "epic hero" the accomplishments are on a grand and large scale and can include slaying of fearsome beasts like dragons or the exploration and conquering of whole worlds or countries. The important thing is that the accomplishments be very big.
The second component is that of internal development. The epic hero has to go through many trials and not only accomplish things in the external world but he or she must also go through a substantial growth of self along the way. These growth steps often include things like overcoming internal fear, (gaining courage) understanding of self and self limitations, and overcoming self by committing to helping others.
An epic hero has to do very large things both in the external world and in the internal world and the two are very strongly tied together. The external accomplishments are never reached unless the hero achieves the internal growth first.
An epic hero represents an ideal for what a culture thinks people should be like.
