How do i disengage the theft system 1989 Cadillac Seville?

Get a new ign lock cyl. put old key with security chip in it. Plug it into connector just below stg. column and lower access panel, look for orange wire like on the new lock cyl. Now this will bypass the the broken wired lock cyl. on the steering column. You will need two keys but only one of them will need the chip.

Change air filter on your Cadillac Seville?

TO CHANGE AN AIR FILTER ON A CADILLAC SEVILLE DEPENDS ON WHAT YEAR THE CAR IS AND IF IT IS A "STS OR AN "SLS" FOR EXAMPLE MY CAR IS A 1995 CADILLAC SEVILLE SLS WITH A 32 VALVE NORTHSTAR V-8. TO CHANGE THIS AIR FILTER IS SIMPLE WHEN YOU HAVE THE HOOD UP LOOK TO THE RIGHT (DRIVER) SIDE OF THE ENGINE. IN THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE ENGINE IS A BLACK PLASTIC "SQUARE" AND A SHORT THICK HOSE THAT GOES TOWARD THE ENGINE. THERE SHOULD BE A "FASTENER" THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE HOSE AND THE BLACK SQUAREBOX.MORE THAN LIKELY YOU WILL NEED A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER TO LOOSEN THE FASTENER. THEN THERE IS BLACK CLAMPS THAT HOLD THE BLACK SQUARE BOX IN PLACE. CAREFULLY PRY OPEN THE BLACK SQUARE BOX {BE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT DAMAGE THE BLACK CLAMPS}AND INSIDE IS THE AIR FILTER.AGAIN, DEPENDING ON WHAT YEAR AND MODEL TYPE "STS" "SLS" YOU CAN GO TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AUTO PARTS STORE FOR INSTANCE CHECKER AUTO PARTS (THIS IS WHERE I GO) AND THERE SHOULD BE A MANUAL MOUNTED ON THE SHELF THAT IS LOCATED IN FRONT OF WHERE THE AIR FILTERS ARE SOLD. SIMPLY LOOK UP WHAT YEAR YOUR CAR IS AND IT WILL ASK YOU IF IT IS AN STS OR SLS THEN IN HAS LETTERS FOLLOWED BY NUMBERS FOR EXAMPLE CA2976 AFTER PURCHASE JUST SIMPLY TAKE THE OLD FILTER OUR AND REPLACE THE NEW ONE CLAMP IT TOGETHER AND TIGHTEN OF THE SEAL.

Where is the brake release on 1988 fleetwood Cadillac?

Cadillac brake release: All of the Cadillacs that I have had, there is no brake release. When you put the car in drive, the parking brake automatically releases. This is good, since if your brakes ever fail, you can use your emergancy brake like a regular pedal-thats if your emergancy brake is working good. To add to this Cadillac's have a manual release in case the auto fails. Most are at the top right of the emergency brake petal, there's a little lever that pulls forward. That should release it. ( I currently have a 89 that the petal doesn't want to release half the time)

How do you remove the front door panel on a 1999 Cadillac Seville?

Remove the interior door panelI just did this on my 98 Seville SLS. (I just did it on a 1999 SLS and it worked exactly as described. BTW, also have a Chilton manual and it told me to remove the door lock lever in search of yet another screw which does not exist!) This should work on the 99 as well as the Eldorado. Tools - strong, medium flathead screwdriver for prying; #2 Phillips; flashlight(optional)

1) Lower the window.

2) Remove the Phillips screw on the lower left of door (near the bottom).

3) Pry out the power window control assembly - use a flathead and pry from the front. Be carefull, it will come out, but remove it slowly - I had to stick the screw driver down about 3/4 inch to release the metal clip. There are two metal clips - one in front the other in back.

4) Disconnect the electrical connector to the power window control assembly.

5) OK, there is the handle you use to pull the door closed - behind that pannel is a flap covered with leather - fold it UP - it doesnt look like a flap, because it's covered - fold it up, and you will see 2 Phillips screws - remove them.

6) Now, there is the interior door handle(the handle used to OPEN the door) - in the back of the handle well there is a dark piece of flat plastic - approx 2" x 3" - it comes out to expose the last screw - use the flathead - push in on the front side, then pry it towards the rear and then out. Push, pry, out.

7) Remove the last screw - it should be a Phillips, identical to the two from the other handle.

8) Now it's like any other door panel - begin popping the fasteners from the door panel off first from the bottom, and then the sides. Use your hands to do this - don't scratch that paint. It requires some force - if you break a fastner, don't worry, they are standard GM fastners and are cheap to replace.

9) Raise the door panel above the lock, and the door panel should be physically free.

10) There are two more electrical connectors now exposed - disconnect them, and your door panel is off. (On the 1999 SLS I also had to unhook the door opener cable which is very simple.)

To reinstall, it is essentially the reverse - the most trouble I had was lining up those plastic tabs. Make sure all 4 screws are in. The power window control goes back in much easier than it came out.

DTC display; 1998-2004 Seville and other model years with 3 buttons on the RH side of DIC

Use the 3 switches located to the right (LH drive cars) of the Driver Information Center (DIC) to activate and respond to the OBD prompts on the DIC.

ON/OFF = YES

INFO RESET = NO

INFO DOWN or INFO UP = manual toggle

Ignition ON, acknowledge any warning messages; press ON/OFF and INFO UP together for 2 to 3 seconds. Everything in front of you lights up for 4 or 5 seconds, then you will see:

Display shows "ALL?"

Answering YES will display "ALL CODES?"

Answering YES will run automatic test sequence and display codes, if any. Systems and codes will scroll faster than I am able to read them and write them; not to worry.

"ALL CLEAR CODES?" will display at the end of the automatic test. If you are satisfied you have the information you need, answer YES to clear/erase all error codes.

Answering "ALL?" with INFO DOWN will toggle systems test manually in order.

Answering "ALL?" with INFO UP will toggle system test manually in reverse order.

Press INFO RESET to reset DIC to "ALL?" to start again.

Ignition OFF to exit.

Where is the starter located in 2003 Cadillac Seville SLS?

Location of the starters on this engine is somewhat unusual. It is located under the air intake manifold, between the two cylinder heads. It sits in the "V-shape" of the top of the block. Air intake manifold, fuel manifold, and other lines will need to be removed in order to gain access to the starter.

I have 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville 4.9. I keep getting a display message saying Service Ride Control what does it mean and how do you fix it?

Answer

It means what it says. The ride control needs has a problem. What service depends on what the problem is.

I have changed the stabilizer bar links with kits available from aftermarket parts dealers. they cost bout $9 to $12 per kit...

You will need to service the ride control pump which is located above the rear axle, clean it up and ensure that the motor vents are clear and wiring connections are clean and free of corrosion. You will also need to clean and service each of the ride controllers in each of the wheel wells...

It is wise to disconnect the battery before you start on it, this should help clear the codes that you may be receiving...

Good Luck, JWSR...

How do you change radiator coolant on a 1997 Cadillac De Ville with a North Star engine?

There are a number of "vehicle geometry" issues mentioned here. If you want the short answer to the question as stated, see the bullet near the end. The difficulty lies in the fact that there is no really direct route from the petcock - which is near the bottom, driver-side, inboard, face of the radiator - to a receptacle beneath the vehicle. (If you didn't know where it was - it is not your fault. It is well-concealed from above by other connections to the radiator. You can find it, but you need to know where it is first... ;-)) ) [I don't recall if draining via the petcock is blocked by the sheet metal panel at the bottom or not. (I am all but certain that it is blocked in this way - Otherwise, I would have found this operation easier...) You will need to remove from the bottom of the vehicle: a (full radiator width) plastic panel having three hex-head screw fasteners; and the driver-side connections of a 'hardware-paper'-ish sheet of material attached to the body from below, by a number of plastic press-together, two-piece fasteners - in order for you to have a shot at the petcock from that direction. I opted to remove the fasteners non-destructively, as the OEM parts are never cheap (sometimes similar fasteners can be found at auto parts stores). In addition, I suggest that you not expose that 'hardware-paper' item to any more antifreeze that is absolutely necessary. (It will sag, and be difficult to keep in place after such exposure.)] You may be able to attach a rubber hose to the petcock, and use it to drain to a container, but I chose to put a big round plastic 'pan' underneath. [Even if you use a plastic tube, you still need to be able to open the petcock - Not easy!] To open the petcock from above (standing - facing the vehicle), you probably need to find someone with hands the size of a three-year-old's; those same hands possessing the strength of an adult male; and arms the length of a person 6'9" tall! (I really wish I was joking about those 'specs'...) The petcock is very hard to reach, and in the end, I chose to do it 'brute-force'. I placed a pan underneath, and disconnected the lower radiator hose. I don't believe that there is a realistic non-messy option - Although I expect that this was the hope of the question. I am unaware of a tool that is designed specifically to open the petcock from far above, but if one exists it would have two prongs in the horizontal plane, and the ability to control their rotation about the horizontal axis, by actuating the turning from a distance of about 24"-30" in the vertical direction. [If you have a pair of 14"+ needle nose pliers, you might be able to place the jaws on either side of the petcock and twist it open (assuming they don't break). (Get under the vehicle, and bring the pliers in from 'vehicle-rear', perpendicular to the intended direction of twist.) In my case, the petcock was so tight, that it took a pair of channel-locks after removal of the radiator!] A cleaner approach might be to pump the fluid from the reservoir with the engine running, but I don't know how much fluid you could remove that way either? (And some of it will be hot - Not so safe!) * I vote for removal of the radiator hoses but only after removal of the under-body fabric! Get a wide pan and let it fall through. It's dirty, but I didn't have a week to get the petcock opened... ;-))

How do you replace the water pump on a 1990 Cadillac DeVille?

What you are asking gets too involved to answer here properly. What you need to do is go to your car parts store, and get a repair manual. They cost about $16.00, and although some of the information in these are mis-leading, most of the time they are accurate, and go into quite detail of the repairs you want to make. You are more than likely going to need some specialized tools which you can rent in order to do the work on this '90 DeVille.

What is it when the fans are not cooling the car?

In many cases, if the engine fan "works" and its, turning, the fans "clutchs" may be worn , or inoperative, causing it to "free-wheel" and not push air like it should causing coolent heatup. This has happened to me before and i never knew a fan had a clutch on it. I did everything but replace the fan itself : ie- took the radiator out, had it boilied, rodded out, and replaced, Took the Thermostate out "completely"as to not restrict the coolent flow at all,,, only to have the same problem. I also made sure the belt was very snug to not slip. Still the car heated up. Finally i took it to a mech and he told me in 1 minuite that the fan clutch was blown, and i replaced it[the entire fan] and never had a problem again. lesson learned. I am assuming you have a non-electric fan setup. If you "do have an electric fan setup" i would suggest this: make sure the fans actually come on, and are working in the first place... let the car heat up, and when it does, you should be able to "hear it [ the fans] come on, or you can get out quickly and do a visual... to see if they are turnning. If they are NOT turning, i would check your "engine fan" fuse[s] or relay box, and replace. Fuses and relays are in various places on different cars, so ask a small repair shop to show you where they are if you cant find them on your own. Each fuse/relay are marked: wipers-heater fan- headlights.... etc. If the fans are indeed turning on like they are supposed to when your coolent reaches a designated heat mark, then i would think your Raditor is plugged , and not allowing enough air to push through it to cool the anitfreeze. It will need to be removed and rodded out, and replaced, **OR** you can just do a "Coolent Flush",which will clean the radiator With special chemicals, but these chemicals cannot be left in the raditor as it may eat thru rubber hoses in time, and cause leaks. You are to drain the anitfreeze, add the cleaner, then fill with water"not antifreeze"!! and run it for a day or so, to allow the cleaner to run thru the raditor and clean all the gunk that has built up inside.... then COMPLETELY DRAIN all the water, flush a few times with more water.... completely drain, then replace with antifreeze. If this still does not correct the problem, then it could be the "Thermostat" has gone bad. Over time they can just wear out, and "stick" in one position, entirely open, entirely closed, or in the middle... you never know. When your engine is cold , the thermostat stays closed to cause pressure in the system to build up heat,,, once it reaches a certain temp, the thermostate automaticly opens to allow the antifreeze to flow "unrestricted" and run at the regular temp. Most thermostats these days are 180 to 195 degrees... ask a parts store for your exact thermostat. These are things you can do on your own, if you have the time, or are a do-it -yourselfer... but if you dont want to mess with it, take it to your local mech and he will help you out, im sure.

i have the same problem in my 90 imperial. drivers side lock will not disengage the system . have to use the passenger side. Any ideas

1990 Chrysler new yorker, transmission was just replaced, the anti theft device, security light is flashing the the car will not start.

I too am having the same problem in my 1991 New Yorker. Anybody know how I can disable it?

I have the same problem with my 94 new yorker, will someone please help me and tell me how to disarm the system so that my car will start? I have to wait 24 hours sometimes for it to reset itself.

My best suggestion is to check the switches on the back of the door key cylinder to see if it is still hooked up.

i just had the same problem with my 93 Chrysler new yorker. the alarm would not disarm. i got a can of PB BLASTER and sprayed inside the door locks on both sides. whatever was frozen up, released. i put the key in the drivers door, locked and unlocked it and the alarm disarmed. the car started right up.
