Car Shaking Problems

Car shaking problems are usually the results of mechanical problems. Out of adjustment tires or suspension will make the car shake after reaching a certain speed. Warped brake rotors will also make the car shake when it’s slowing down.

Should you drive on a blinking check engine light?

Just to the shop for diagnosing and repair ( try not to accelerate briskly ) A blinking check engine light means that a misfire has been detected The vehicle will need to be scanned for any trouble codes to diagnose and then repair the problem . If you were to continue driving and just ignore the blinking check engine light you can cause damage to the catalytic converter which would cost you a lot more money

What would cause a car to shake when accelarating between 50 and 60 mph?

that is usually caused by wheels out of balance.have wheels balanced then check U-joints they may be worn and need replacing Start with the simple stuff, have the tires balanced and check the rims to see if they're bent. There ARE other things to look at, but those are the most common and least expensive to deal with.

Why does your steering wheel vibrate the higher the speed goes?

Your steering wheel will vibrate at higher speeds due to either wear in your front tires or improper balance of tire pressure. IF these are not the promblem look to see if there is damanage to the shaft under the vehicle between the tires. Look at it or get it looked at before it gets worse, believe me I know how expensive it can be later!

I have 20 inch rims on my car why does it shake so badly?

I don't know the exact reason it is bumpy, but here is a solution. Try to find a rubber spring to replace the shock at the end of the leaf springs. There is one in the Truckin magazine, this will also improve your stability.

Why is my 93 Lincoln Town Car vibrating and shaking when i accelerate?

ENGINE PERFORMANCE ISSUESThere could be many causes for the "...vibrating and shaking when I accelerate." However, without personally doing a hands on troubleshooting of your vehicle no one here can tell you what the specific cause is, or where to find it.

Based on the described symptoms, I suspect that your vehicle is in serious need of a full tuneup, including replacement of many of the performance and/or pollution control items like:

  • fuel filters,
  • air filters,
  • spark plugs,
  • spark plug wires, and
  • many other items which IF not replaced, when they should have been, can contribute to performance failures.

Usually, the failure to take care of only one or two of these items will not noticeably affect your vehicle's performance, BUT... the accumulated performance damage caused by several maintenance item deficiencies WILL result in severe performance problems such as you describe.

Study your Owner's Manual relating to performance issues, AND relating to the routine, scheduled maintenance tasks that should have been done, and then perform ALL of those prescribed maintenance tasks. I suspect that will resolve the "...vibrating and shaking..." issue.

IF all of these items are already currently up to date, then the problem will probably be a failure of an electrical or mechanical component.

IF you are capable of doing the routine scheduled tasks, then do it. IF NOT, then have it done by a qualified automotive technician.

Why a car vibrate at high speed and its steering wheel shake when braking just at high speed?

High speed vibration is often an indication of a wheel that is out of balance or a bent rim. It can also be a bent driveshaft or bad U-joint. Vibration when you brake at high speed is almost always a warped rotor on the disk brakes.

Why does your steering wheel vibrate when you are driving and coasting?

A car's steering wheel will vibrate when driving if the car's alignment needs to be adjusted.

Why is your Ford F150 shaking and the check engine light is flashing?

If the check engine light is flashing that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected

What causes excessive tire wear?

Running the tires low of air pressure or too much air pressure. Suspension out of alignment. Hard fast driving with sudden stops, hard acceleration, and driving on a curvy road at a high rate of speed.

Why Car shake at 35 mph?

Could be a problem with a tire(s) such as balance or tire belt separation. Also have the front end, steering and suspension checked for loose/worn parts.

What would cause heavy vibration at higher speeds when not accelerating?

This question has been recategorized under "Car Shaking Problems." Vibrations at some speeds and not others could be caused by something as simple as a wheel not being balanced properly, or it could be caused by something more serious. Start by having your wheels balanced. Check other answers in the above category too.

Why would your car shake when it is raining?

If it only happens when it's raining, your coil pack is likely cracked and moisture is getting in. This means that your engine is misfiring because of the moisture. It should be replaced, but if you need to get somewhere with it, spray some WD-40 on the coil pack to displace the water.

Why does car lose acceleration uphill?

Automatic transmissions lose acceleration driving uphill because of the torque converter. The engine turns one side of the torque converter and the other side is splined into the input set of the planetary gears. The torque converter uses fluid to turn the input shaft in the transmission. When the transmission is locked into gear and going uphill the torque converter has to work against power losses from the tires on the road and when the engine is working harder the torque converter cuts or "shears" the fluid and it causes the transmission to overheat. Always make sure you have enough fluid in the transmission

How do you compression test a 1993 Buick Skylark Custom?

The compression tester has a plug that goes in the spark plug hole and reads the compression within the cylinder. Remove the sparkplugs. (Mark the plug wires with masking tape so you can put them back where they belong) Insert the compression tester and have someone activate the starter and roll the engine over a few times.

Can driving on a bent wheel damage your car?

It can cause a lot of extra stresses on the suspension and steering linkage.

What can cause car to shake when breaks applied?

What you are describing is typically caused by a warped rotor. Sometimes a disk brake rotor will warp after it has become overheated, typically from the brakes working too hard, such as going down a long hill, that's one reason it's a good idea to use a lower gear and let the engine do some of the braking for you.

Sometimes it can be caused by loading the vehicle with too much weight then the brakes have to work a little extra hard.

Whatever the cause, warped disk brake rotors must be replaced or "turned", but many of the newer rotors are already too "thin" to turn so the only option is to replace them.

On a 02 Alero Why would the front end shake badly Just Hammers when you accelerate rapidly?

If you bought this car used, there is a chance it could have a broken motor mount, this would cause the engine to shake very badly as one side of the motor would be rising up, as the other side is trying to hold it down. Under smooth acceleration, a broken motor mount is not very noticeable. Try this, with your foot on the brake, start the car, put the car in reverse, does it clunk?, put the car into neutral, then put the car into drive, any clunking? If so, i would take a close look at the motor mounts.

What would cause a steering wheel to shake AFTER you put new tires on a set of new rims and they are balanced?

Your driveline may need alignment (front end alignment), you may have warped rotors, or you could have bad "ball joints".
