What could be causing a sweet smell inside the car while the heat is on?

The sweet smell is caused by antifreeze leaking from the heater core. As the hot air passes through the core it evaporates solvents in the antifreeze which have this "sweet" smell. This contaminated air enters the car when you put the heater on. You might try a radiator sealant additive obtained at any car part store. If you interior carpets are wet then the leak is bad and needs immediate attention.

What could cause a burning oil smell and a constant check engine light in my 98 Toyota camery a couple of days after getting the oil topped off What kind of damage can occur if left unfixed?

Park this car on a level surface and check the oil level after the engine has not been run for 1 hour. If you find that it is overfull, remove the excess oil immediately. Running an engine with too much oil is just as bad as running it with too little. Too much oil will cause the oil to cavitate, and air bubbles will be created. This will create severe engine damage from lack of lubrication. If you find this not to be the case, take the car to a professional for diagnosis. Running it with a emissions problem, (Check Engine Light) may or may not do damage. Depends on what has caused the light to come on.

What causes the Musty smell you get from your dodge caravan air conditioner?

Musy smell is mold growing in bottom of evaporatoe coil case! Kits available commercially to spray disinfectant into duct system to kill mold but ensure you don't have any clogged drains first, and evaporator is difficult to get to, believe me!

Answer 2BG offers a product that cleans the evaporator coil. Its as simple, well actually not simple, as drilling a hole in the evaporator in the neck between the evaporator and the fan. then you attach a drain plug into the evaporator and spray in BG frigi fresh which cleans out all the bacteria and dirt. followed by spraying in another bottle of frigi fresh into the fresh air intake on the exterior of the car. and to clarify, the evaporator is generally located underneathe the dash board on the passenger side, and generally requires you to sorta hang upside down to get at it.

Why does VW Golf glow plug warning light flash?

Hi all,

l have golf mk4 but most cars vw use the same parts.

glow plug or "spring" light on my board started to flash, found on line two reasons ...
Before, check your book but not much over there for that problem so as l said there is two reasons that l know.
1. electric problem with back breaking lights, both bulbs were blown so check the all the bulbs or..

2. break pedal switch has stuck or gone, so found any car parts shop and ask for one.

Very easy to replace, take off the panel above the pedals , there is three screws to undue and simply you have access to break pedal switch. Replace it with new one.

Soon as l have done that glow plug light stopped to flash, there was no further issues.

have someone with you cos in the day light make sure break lights are working properly.
Or simply use the mirror, that's what I've done.

You will find on line many answers and pictures of how to do that but on some there is just too many things to take off, SO IT IS ACTUALLY VERY SIMPLE !!!

Hope this helps.

Is it possible for an Chrysler 300 Touring Car to emit the smell of urine through the ac-heater vents even if the car's parked in a public lot but always with windows closed?

The air intack on most vehicles is located outside the car, mostly found in the "cowl" area. This is the area between the hood and windshield, usually a vent or similar. I am not familar with the 300, but most cars are set up like this. If the smell only happens on "recirculate" you might check the recirculation intake for your A/C and heater. It is normally located under the dash between the driver and passenger or under the front seats. Some accidents in these areas will cause an odor every time you put on Max A/C, but not (or at least not as noticable) on vent.

Leakage in car that smells like rubbing alcohol?

I just went outside to get something from my car. As soon as I opened the door I got the overpowering scent on rubbing alcohol also. It actually made my heart race and I feel ill. I'm not usually the type to go online and search for something like this. Am I being poisoned? If I'd have jumped in to drive I'd be passed out for sure.

I'm going to search for info and will edit this post as anything's found.

Why would there be a faint smell of fuel when the air conditioner is on?

The best way to keep the foul smell out is to open windows and use fans to bring in a lot of fresh air before the AC is started. Keeping the AC room clean is also equally important.

Regards,

Be-Cool Expert

Check your muffler and exhaust pipe for holes and also check your manifold gasket it may need replacing, exhaust fumes smell like faint fuel, if there is not leak this could be the problem.

This could be caused by a few different things....check the purge canister if the vehicle has one.....also check the fuel pressure regulator for a leaking diaphram. The air conditioning is "sucking" the fumes in from the purge canister or the pressure regulator.

Any fuel leak in the engine compartment can transfer into the cabin when the a/c is turned on. I doubt the exhaust would be confused with fuel but that's just my nose. Some vehicles have common recall problems such as the intrepid for fuel rails leaking. you should never smell fuel

What is the Skunk smell from car?

If you've thoroughly washed the car (especially underneath) and the odor remains as crazy as it may sound the next thing to check is the car's battery. Automotive batteries that have a "mechanical" or physical failure (i.e. leaking or are shorted internally and often times begin to smoke) emit a sulphur odor not unlike the smell of a skunk or of a natural gas leak. If the odor is in the engine compartment chances are that's where the problem is.
