How do you replace the water pump on a 1998 Chevy Tahoe?
It depands on what engine you have but none are REAL hard. You will need guidance though and the best way is to get a manual on your vehicle and you will have it for this repair and also for the next one.
If your 1998 is the same as my 1997 with a 5.7, you will also need a special wrench to remove the fan clutch. It is retained with a large, left hand thread nut, instead of the 4 small bolts of past models.
Are you sure its a left hand thread?
They are standard threads. Righty Tighty - Lefty Lousy. You don't need any special tools/wrencherszperiodz You loosen up two of the ten millimeter bolts holding the fan on, but not all the way. Lodge the wrench in there to hold the water pump from turning. Put a large adjustable wrench on the big nut for the fan clutch and smack it with a ball pein hammer. The threads should not be super tight on the fan clutch. This can be done by one person. I've done it many times by myself.
How do you end the sulfur smell coming from my cars engine?
You may have a bad cat (and/or engine is not properly tuned). Make sure engine is properly tuned and do not use heavy acceleration until engine is warmed up.
It's probably mold. You can buy chemicals that are added through the intake that might fix it.
It will probably cost near $800.00. I am from Oklahoma and that is how much the clutch and tow came out to be three years ago. Now make sure who you take the truck to someone who knows what he is doing. my truck is in the shop again getting the transmission rebuilt due to the clutch plate was not put on right.

How do you get the oil smell out of rubber truck mats?
The best way to remove the oil smell is to give the mats plenty of air, water and sunshine. I start by washing the mats with a detergent. This can be done at home or at a car wash. Recently, I even saw someone use the Doggy Wash at the car wash for car mats.
Next, I put them in the sun so the oils can vaporize. Usually a day or two will get the most of the oil to vaporize. If this is too slow, just use a hair dryer. Be sure you are in an open area and aren't sniffing the evaporating oil.
Last I put a fan on them to get as much air as possible to pass over the mats. This usually eliminate most of the smell.
I usually give the mats a good wash with detergent, like clothes detergent or dishwashing detergent. Then I use something to get rid of the smell still in the car. I put up some related links that have a lot of techniques to wash the mats and a bunch of recipes to get rid of odors and give the car a good smell.
What is the cause of the rotten egg smell your car makes when you drive it?

There are a couple of ways to do this. The best way is to take it to an auto detail shop where they will (should) have the supplies and/or equipment to do it. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, you can get foggers which are odor neutralizers. These are usually used for removing cigarette or other deep odors and work well if used properly. They will come in a small can which you will place in the center of the car and let it all spray out. Do this with the car and the AC running and make sure that your vent setting is on "recirculate" and that your doors and windows are sealed. If possible, set the vents to blow through the every possible vent. This will draw the odor neutralizer through the vent system including your filters which is where most odors will saturate. After the AC has run for about 20 minutes. Quickly reach in and turn the car off. Avoid breathing the fog and avoid letting it all escape into the air. Don't leave your car unattended while it's running, I had to say it. After turning the car off, leave the doors and windows sealed for several hours, overnight is best. Before getting in the car, you will want to ventilate it well. Roll all windows down a couple of inches and turn the AC on to the "fresh air" setting. This will help to ventilate your system and make the whole car smell fresh. These foggers can be purchased in several different scents at most detail supply stores for around $8.00 per can. Or check online at Maguires or Mothers web sites. Another way to do this would be by renting an Ozone machine from a auto or residential cleaning or restoration company. The unit is about the size of a mailbox and are usually less than $20.00 to rent. Use the same method as with the foggers but please remember to let the car air out completely before breathing in the car. If your back seats open up to your trunk, do this to help with any trunk odors as well. Also, floor mats can trap a lot of odors so I like to remove them to allow the Ozone or the fogger to saturate into the carpet and insulation in the floor. Good luck.

What would you do with a gas leak detector?
A gas leak detector sounds an alarm when natural gas is detected. It does not sound off for any other elements. Investing in a gas leak detector could save the lives of yourself and your family, since the smell can not be detected. You can buy one at Home Depot or any other home goods store.
Why does your car smoke and smell like gas?
If the vehicle has a little bit of white smoke coming from the
exhaust and there is the smell of gas then it is possible that your vehicle needs a tune-up severely...it is possible that one or more of the cylinders is not firing correctly,or if you have a dead cylinder (one inwhich is not getting any spark) because of a bad spark plug or bad plug wire then that cylinder is not burning the fuel it is taking in, it is just passing the fuel mixture directly into the exhaust system and burning it causing smoke and gas smells.....the engine timing could also be off affecting the intake/exhaust valves and firing sequence.
On the more expensive side,it could be that the piston rings are bad and the bad rings are allowing the fuel to enter into the engine block on the compression stroke, which mixes the fuel vapor with your engine oil,The bad rings will also allow that very same contaminated oil to pass into the cylinders on the intake stroke and be burned out into the exhaust system..,,there is also the chance that a head gasket is also to blame...
How do you get rid of a bad smell that comes out of your Volkswagen Beetle 2002 model?
Does it smell like crayons? If so, Beetles are known for that smell. I can't remember if it's the glue or the rubber used inside the car, but it would take a lot of money to remove it.
My first NB was terrible, but my second isn't so bad.
If you need more info you can Google "crayon smell Beetle" or join newbeetle.org
Hope this helps!

What makes that new car smell?
The "New Car" smell is related to what is known as an "out gassing" of many of the materials used to make the car.
For example, the vinyl in the dash board gives off gasses during it's first few months after manufacture. The same can be said of the carpet, the glues used to install it, and the seats.
Cloth or vinyl seats give off their own odors, while leather gives off odors, due to the treatments performed to make it last longer.
There actually is an air freshener that car manufacturers use to cover up the out gassing of the interior materials. That is what you actually smell.
Our sense of smell only smells each different smell for 7 seconds
New car smell burning rubber when car running?
During the manufacturing process of car parts lubricants may be used by the machinery.
In some cases it is unavoidable that this lubricant gets onto/into the parts being made, to a lessor or grater degree.
Then what the part is used for the first time on the finished car, the lubricant gets hot and "burns off".
A good example would be the exhaust system: The Pipe bending machinery often leaves an oily coating on a new exhaust part, which burns off during the first few hours of use, giving a distinctive smell to a car with a "new exhaust".
However, it is also possible that the vehicle has a defective component, or was not assembles correctly, leading to a fault causing the smell.
The best advice would be to return the vehicle to the place of purchase, and get the smell investigated.
What would smell like burning rubber in a 1995 dodge neon?
The burning rubber smell in the tranmisson breaking apart inside.
While an engine is cold, water vapor condenses and comes out the exhaust pipe as white vapor on a cold day. After the engine warms up, the exhaust pipe is hotter allowing the exhaust gasses to be hotter as they come out the tailpipe. When that occurs, the water vapor dissipates long before it can condense. Don't worry about it if it's just white vapor that goes away after the engine warms up. It's a normal product of the combustion of gasoline. On the other hand, if the smoke is grey and smells like oil, it can be an indicator of a problem. The oil smoke smell is in all probability the valve stem seals or the oil drain ports in the heads are stopping up.
