you have an ehaust leak some close to the engine conpartment its probly where the headders/exhaust manifold meets the y pipe/cross pipe. depending on how bad of shape the exhaust system is. it may be rusted out or it might be the exhaust gaskets. if its not the exhaust then you have a fuel leak somewhere in the system. if its caurberated cheek to see if there is a bad odor from uder the hood then run through the fuel lines and look for leaking. im goinna go with the exaust though.

I owned a detailing business and we got this questions all the time. Not exactly about eggs, but this method we used for cigarette smoke and other unpleasent odors in the vehicle. It would also work for some smells in the air conditioning system.
Take a new can of coffee grinds, if it is a big vehicles you will need two of them (Chevy Suburban, Ford Excursion). Open the can of coffee and then place it in the center of the interior of the vehicle, the arm rest or in the middle of the floor in the back seat. Next take an apple and cut it in half. Take one half of the apple and bury it in the coffee so that the apple is covered by the coffee. Close the doors and the wondows and leave it over night, in the morning the interior of the car will smell like coffee but that's better than something nasty.

that is your heater core. If it´s leaking inside the vehicle, your heater core is bad. The core itself is very inexpensive, but it cost a lot in labor to have somebody else do it.

The above answer is obvious as to what coud be burning it could be a number of things.
First check the fluids. If any of them are low it could cause a burning smell, top them up to the proper levels. If the burning smell continues then it could be some thing else. Or it could be some fluids spilt on the engine while it was running.
It could also be a malfunctioning cercuit, burnt wire, some thing in the engine could be dying out.
When in doubt have it checked out asap or the burning smell could burn through your wallet.
