Not sure about the CR-V but we are returning our 2006 Pilot to the dealer for the third time to deal with mouse problems. The first time was a dead mouse that got run through the blower fan when my wife turned on the AC this summer. The blower is behind the glove box and I could see the nesting materials when I dropped the door on the glove box out of the way. You might want to look and see if the CR-V has a similar setup. Hope you get it resolved, we're basically done with Pilots if this trip doesn't resolve the problem.

Doesn't matter what type of vehicle, this indicates an exhaust leak and an oil leak. The burnt oil and the exhaust, get pulled into the cowl which is where the air for the interior comes from! Not very healthy...

It could be a number of things, but the most common reason is because oil is thrown up ontop of the engine and burns off from the heat. could be an oil leak. it could be that your radiator is barely cooling down your engine, and slightly burning oil. there are alot of answers to this question.

Most likely the transmission fluid needs to be replaced.

If it's a sweet smell then its probably a heater core leaking antifreeze.

Could be an engine or transmission oil leak dripping onto some part of the exhaust system.

Many people associate the smell of antifreeze with an overheated engine. The only reason we do that is because we certainly smell antifreeze when the engine is overheated and blowing out antifreeze, but if there is just a slow leak of antifreeze and we smell that, we MIGHT be able to convince ourselves that the engine is overheated. Check for coolant leaks around the engine, radiator and heater hoses. After cooling down and drying out, antifreeze will leave a blue/green powdery subastance. Any smell from the car vents is unrelated to the AC system unless it is an antiseptic smell. Generally, the smells are environmental from your engine compartment, where the fresh air is taken from. If you smell something burning from the vents, then something is heating up to much under your hood. Check your compressor for a worn clutch, or oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold.

If you're adding coolant to the reservoir often, you have a leak somewhere. Have the cooling system pressure tested. That may force the leak to show up.

My engine light was on and I had a gas smell in my 2000 CRV when the pipe from the gas cap to the gas tank rotted out. It was replaced for ~$500 by Aamco.

It could be any number of problems. If brakes are ruled out check the following:

First, check to make sure your tires are not rubbing on the inside of the wheel well or on anything else.

Check inside the engine to make sure any belts are not rubbing on anything.

You may have something on your accessory belt that is starting to seize up causing the belt to rub.

This would depend on your nose. A bad CMP sensor may cause improper burning of the fuel and can give a smell out the tailpipe. Will the CMP smell? Never. A Ford camshaft syncronizer will squeek and could cause a metallic burning smell.

the air panels are designed to bring in fresh air from outside unless you put the middle selector to Max A/C where it will recycle the air from inside of the car. On warm air case you don't have an option. Siamand

Just a guess, but it might be a leaking fuel line, meaning the injectors aren't getting enough fuel into the cylinders, and that's also where the smell is coming from.The other thing you could check is your spark plugs. It sounds strange, i know, but I've seen that happen. If your spark plug isn't sparking, you'll smell gas, because it isn't getting burned. Also would explain your rough starting.
