Just a guess, but it might be a leaking fuel line, meaning the injectors aren't getting enough fuel into the cylinders, and that's also where the smell is coming from.The other thing you could check is your spark plugs. It sounds strange, i know, but I've seen that happen. If your spark plug isn't sparking, you'll smell gas, because it isn't getting burned. Also would explain your rough starting.

Is there any sign of water / antifreeze on the floor ? sounds like a possible heater core leaking - the reason you smell it when the a/c is one may be due to the blower / fan blowing the smell out through the vents - you can unhook your heater core , by taking the 2 hoses ( under the hood ) off the nipples where it connects to the cab and join the hoses together , eliminating the core - - - - the 2 hoses are identical , and they connect by the passenger side - right around the glove box area UNDER THE HOOD - MOTOR AREA - good luck

the smell is caused by unburnt fuel leaving the engine as you are cranking it nuthing to do with blocked fuel jets. if fuel jets are blocked, you wont get fuel at all. u might check condition of battery to ensure engine is cranking at correct speed . if battery is low, engine takes more cranking to start hence the fuel being lost .
i think u need to change the O2 sensor in this case.check the air filter if it is bad.

So depending for that 2006 year what month it was made will give you the info. Just call the dealer's part department and ask.
