ADDED BY A91RSINVEGAS: Just in case, there is a fuse that is often overlooked by so called "mechanics". The diagnoses will be a bad fuel pump, costing hundreds of dollars to replace, then they find out that the new pump doesn't work (but charge you for the new pump anyway). This fuse is directly related to the ECM/fuel pump/oil sending unit. It is located in a small black box connected to the battery by an orange wire. My box was on the fender well near the battery, but I have seen them closer to the fender. Normally when you turn on the key before starting, there is a period of time when all the system lights come on. This is a system test. When I blew the fuse replacing the oil sending unit, the SES (service engine soon light) did not come on during this test, and obviously, the car would not start because the was no power going to the fuel pump.

Money is the limit. IF the engine didn't happen to fit, you could have the engine compartment modified. A big block should swap right in with no issues... wiring, transmission, etc is a different story, but a big block will fit.

There are about a dozen things that turn the light on. TAke it to auto zone and have them read the codes free.

Bad grounds, Faulty Battery, Almost anything along those lines, Have someone put on a tester, it will find the problem. Auto Zone does it for free. -Mr. Mechanic- Check the fusible link at the starter , use a test light touch the small term with the purple wire . While having someone try to start the car ,light should come on , if not check for blown fusible link.

usually engine size. all Z28 are either 5.0 or 5.7 and the RS is either a V6 (3.8 I think) or a 5.0. If the Z and the RS both have 5.0's there will be engine enhancements such as throttle body injection in the RS where as the Z28 had tuned port injection, and other minor mods to the engine and suspension. In other words the Z28 was a little bit better and faster than the 8 cylinder RS.
