Where is the Flasher Relay on a 2003 Monte Carlo SS?
Hi,
I just replaced the flasher relay on my wife's 2005 Monte Carlo. The flasher relay is not a traditional relay in the sense that it actually is integrated into the emergency flashers button on your instrument panel, above the ignition.
The part cost $45 at the dealership, and was a bit tricky to install. You'll have to remove several screws that hold the instrument board in place.
It's also a pain in the butt to remove the actual flasher relay, once you get to that point.
I also have a 1997 Monte Carlo LS 3.1 and I've had the same problem. It was the alternator.
How do you wire a dixco tach with 3 wires?
Most tachs have a green wire that goes to the negative side of the coil, and at least two more wires for hot and ground. Sometimes there are two hots. One for the tach and one for the light. Check inside your tach to determine which wire goes to ground, and you should be able to figure it out from there.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo?
I can answer if the car is set up the same as a 1995 Z34. The alternator is hidden on the backside of the engine between the firewall and engine block. Some genius decided to put it there, and they even have a flexible duct hose to provide cooling air to the alternator.
It is necessary to remove the two large engine mount (rear) bolts and drop the engine down about 10". It pivots on the two front engine mount bolts, no need to remove them. Dropping the engine down is necessary to get the old alternator out, and the new one in. You also need to remove the front Right wheel/tire. Behind the tire is a plastic/rubber cover on the inside of the fenderwell that you must remove to get to the alternator mount bolts on the pulley side.
It takes about 4-5 hours to change the alternator. Our alternator has failed three times in 10 years. This poor installation job by the Chev engineers costs us two ways:
1) The alternator fails due to poor airflow.
2) It's a SOB to change.

I Suggest buying a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual, be cause the answer above is obviously not going to help you.

Actually, an 84 is a rwd model. The alternator should be on the front passenger side of the block. There are only a couple bolts holding it on. Unplug the wires that are plugged into the alt. The top bolt is an adjuster bolt. Undo that to take pressure off the belt. You may need to slide the alternator a bit on the adjusting mount/bar that the alt is bolted to on the top. Remove the belt, remembering how it is routed on all the pullys. Then remove the top bolt, and then remove the bottom bolt. There may be a spacer on the bottom bolt, so be aware that you don't drop it and remember its position for reinstallation. The alt should just come right out. The total time to replace should be only between 15 min to an hour, depending on the bolts being "stuck" or not. WD 40 may need to be used on them before and after removal.
I've owned an 80 Monte with a 400, and an 82 with a 350, and had 2-3 alternators fail between both cars, so I got kind of good at swapping them out.

How do you change temp gauge sensor in 2000 Monte Carlo?
Drain some of coolant by opening pitcock. Then remove oil fill tube by twisting it about quarter turn. The plastic top engine cover just lifts straight up. Remove engine end of top radiator hose and tuck it out of the way. You can get to sensor with top motor in place but alot easier if removed. Then unplug sensor from wiring harness. Now you can remove sensor from engine with 19mm or I found out easier to remove with 3/4. You can remove with socket and ratchet but alot easier with ratching wrench. Reinstall using teflon tape on threads of sensor. reinstall in opposite order.
When should you change timing belt on 03 Monte Carlo ss?
There is no timing belt. It has a timing chain that should last 150K at the least. Chevy says its not wearable.
How far is it from Cannes to Monte Carlo?

How do you reset ignition serurity on a 1999 z34?

Will the transmission out of a 1996 lumina van fit a 1995 Monte Carlo with the same size motor?
if it's the same transmission it will bolt right up.
Where is the fuse for fans for 96 Monte Carlo?
Under the hood, right (passenger) side. You have to remove the support bracket that goes from the fender to the radiator support. Under that bracket is a small fuse box (you can see it on the inner fender). The cover should give you the locations. Should be a fuse and a relay for each fan.
What is the 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo Supercharged SS fuel economy?

Where are the serial numbers on the engine of a 71 Monte Carlo?
your serial number is on the back of the engine block on the side facing the fire wall
How much to install a 1998 z34 Monte Carlo engine in a 1998 LS Monte Carlo?
It would not be very difficult since the vehicles are built almost exactly the same, but I would not suggest it as the 3.4L engine is not a very dependable engine and has many mechanical malfunctions. If you want a more powerful engine than the 3.1L, I would recommend going with a 3.8L 3800 Series II, which is cast from the same block as the Chevy 350's just with the last two cylinders removed. All internals are interchangeable with Chevy 350's, Which makes it quite easy to find replacement parts.
is the battery dead? if not check your connections and/or for corrosion
96 Chevy Monte Carlo v6 3.1L idles rough when at a stop?
Other issues that may or most likely, may not have any bearing...Shifts hard into second gear, but letting off gas at right time diminishes that. The buttons in my radio are all jumbled up. They do not match what they did originally and are supposed to match. I don't know if that implies an electrical issue or what.
Detail:About a week or so after my fuel pump was replaced, I felt a kick while at a light. Not having money or any desire to revisit the mechanic, I ignored it. It has continually progressed. Now at any light, the RPMS jump all around usually between 500-700 RPMS. They can dip lower. The car constantly feels like it's going to stall and on several instances, has come very close to it, but has yet to do so. This problem seems to be agitated by having any sort of electronics on...Heater, lights, defroster, radio. The more on, the worse it acts. But it still acts up to a lesser extent even if none are on. If I give it a little gas at a light and get it up 1000 RPMs, most of the fluctuations disappear, and are almost undetectable unlike the 100-300 fluctuations that normally occur. I have VERY rarely felt it occur at higher speeds. It has no problem when accelerating. This only seems to happen when idling, de-accelerating, and remaining at a constant speed. What would cause this? My guess would be fuel related
I think they replaced the fuel filter when they did the fuel pump, but not sure. I have also added fuel injector cleaner since then. I have also tried visiting a different gas station.
Also I read about people with similar problems having their cars relearn how to idle. However, since it seems different with each vehicle, I could not find how to reteach my car. Would this help?
What would the odd smell be coming through the vents on a 1995 Monte Carlo only when heat is on?
the best possible guess I could think of is mice... If it's a chemical smell, you might have a heater core leak. If it's a mildew smell, maybe you have an interior air filter that is funky.
Your 97 Monte Carlo failed inspection for Evap Emissions purge flow fault how do you fix this?
The 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is equipped with an evaporative emission system. A purge flow fault can involve a number a single or multiple component problems. There could be a problem a with the purge valve which is relatively easy repair/replacement. The Monte Carlo's OBDII system should be scanned for all codes which will help narrow the condition.
