- Next, use a ruler and put a small black dot 2.5 cm. from the bottom.*
- Fill a cup with, from bottom to top, with 2 cm. of water.
- Get a small piece of tape and attach the filter paper to a pencil.
- MAKE SURE THE BLACK DOT IS ABOVE THE WATER, and submerge the short side of the filter paper into the water, by holding the pencil.
- Watch the water crawl up the filter paper and produce many colors.
*The marker must be washable for this to work.
