The drum is coated with a photo-conductive layer, whose electrical resistance changes when exposed to light. In the old days this was based on selenium, but nowadays it uses an organic plastic compound.

HEre is what I have found and it works. option 1.- Turn printer off, open the cartridge door. Turn power on. It will ask "new drum?" Press 1 for yes. It should reset. option 2.- You can also open the cartridge door with the machine on and press the blue right arrow button to get the "Replace Drum" prompt. Press 1 to reset the count.
