On May, 18, 1980, the Kwangju Massacre took place in the city of Kwangju, South Korea.

At the time, the South Korean Government was in a state of flux. Seven months earlier, on October 26, 1979, president of 18 years Park Chung-hee had been assassinated. Less than two months later his successor, Choi Kyu Hah, was deposed by a military coup orchestrated by General Chun Doo Hwan, who took control of the government on December 12, 1979. Political unrest escalated throughout the country, and on May 17, 1980, Chun instituted martial law in South Korea.

On May, 18, 1980, during a confrontation between military troops and student demonstrators in Kwangju, the soldiers lost their objective discipline and started killing citizens indiscriminately, demonstrators or not. Events escalated, and citizens took up arms to defend themselves, but were ultimately crushed by the South Korean Army. Official casualties over the 10 day period of the Uprising are listed as being under 200, but there have been estimates of between 1000 to 2000 actual deaths.

Why did the US declare war on Libya?

Libya is going against the humanitarian rights. These rights basically mean that this is against what everyone believes and the Libyian leader is killing his own people. The United Nation has to take part and stop what is happening. Not only is the U.S involved but so is Europe.

The only reason that America is involved in Libya is simple because it wants to steal the libyan oil, which is among the best petroleum in the world because of its composition and richness. America is currently stealing oil from Iraq. America will kill anyone and any nation that stands in its way, so it uses Kadafi as an excuse. Ask yourselves, if America is such a goody goody country, then why doent it stay in places like Haiti, where much help is needed, places like Costa Rica, where all sorts of human rights have been committed and because locked up in cells forever and all with the consent of America...Ill tell you why, its simply because there is no oil there.

Why doesnt America play with Russia, or China, because America knows that she just may get her butt kicked. America can only pick on the little guy, and when the little guy defends himself America calls him a leftist and a communist.

There are many other old navy tattoos such as the sailor's knot, the full rigged sailing ship, a blue swallow, the compass, helms and anchors, mermaids, how about the golden dragon, a sea turtle for the shell back, or a blue nosed polar bear. How do Mayan people keep their tradition while adapting to modern life?

The modern world slowly intrudes into Mayan Villages.

The houses consist of one room. They are made of sticks. They are now covered with tarps rather than thatch.

Water is brought by hand carried buckets.

Electricity comes to the small homes as one light bulb in the center of the one room house.

A small fire for cooking constantly burns keeping the house smoky all the time. It also keeps the house free of insects making jungle living possible.

Some new houses are being built with a concrete floor. They have two rooms. The kitchen with its eternal smoky flame no longer in the sleeping area.

In many villages many of the men are gone a good part of the year working as migrant laborers and performing any other task they can find. They return home for the local harvest and to renew family ties.

The children are learning the same information as any other student in the government schools.

As you can see, the Maya are adding outside things one at a time. One lightbulb to their houses.

On the other hand, the ordinary Maya Indian does not have much money. We have no idea what they would do if they could afford it.

Why was christopher Columbus mean and mad all the time?

Columbus wasnt actually mean and mad all the time. But he was during his exploration. No body knows why he could but there is alot of theories. Most people suggest since he was at sea for more than a year he turned crazy. Like every crew, captain, or other explorer this isn't strange at all. Another theory is that he didn't have a good crew. His crew would always sleep and not work. Like a teacher is mean if his/her students misbehave. Since no one had a written record of why he was mean only that he was we will never actually know.
