Using your vehicle VIN number to find the gear ratio of an axle?

There are four ways to find a ratio.

1 A dealer can normally tell from the vin number.

2 There are normally tags or labels on the axle that have part number, gear ratio, and fluid requirement

info.

3 You can count how many times you have to turn the driveshaft to get one complete turn of the tires.

4 You can divide the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide by number of teeth on the pinion.

How do you take the play out of a 1996 Chevy k2500 rear end?

If you are talking about slack in the gears in the differential , then you will have to replace them because they have alot of wear and don't fit together snug any more . If you are talking about the whole differential having play and making a clunking noise when you pull away from a stop , then you need to change the rubber bushings at each end of your leaf springs .

Is it work putting a Detroit locker in a Dodge Ram that has a limited slip rear-end?

you've made me think about my own 4x4 which has a posi-track rear end. The reality is that most 4x4's are actually only 2 wheel drive. For example if u drive half in the mud and half on the pavement - only the wheels in the mud will have power to them and all power will be lost to the wheels on the pavement. That is just stupid for somone who loves wheelin. Jack one wheel off the ground with a floor jack under the axle and see if u can take off (slowly) in two wheel high (don't lock in the front) - hold on I'm going to go try that right now...if the wheel off the ground spins and u r not getting power to the wheel on the ground then hey - it's worth it to put in the locker.

BRB - well looks like I'll be installing a locker. The tire off the ground spun like mad and if I was stuck I would be going a whole lot of nowhere...

What causes rear end gears to go out in 1996 camaro Z28?

Well...being that they are in a Z28, possibly hard launches with very sticky tires like drag radials or slicks. I would say normally rearends last a long time but if the rearend has been abused.....then any stock component will suffer failure. The engine could have been hopped up, the tranny and the crictical item in the driveline being the rearend is never upgraded so it is the weakest link in the driveline. Just my opinion Three possibilities: too much torque from the engine can cause the ring & pinion gear or spider gear to fail. Inadequate lubrication can cause general failure. Ring and pinion and/or bearings can fail simply because the differential is old and worn out.

How do you remove driveshaft 2006 Kia Sorento and then replace the rear universal joint?

Lift the back of the vehicle.Use jack stands.First you will need to remove 4 bolts (14mm) off of the rear end.Second you will need to remove 2 bolts from the center bearing (also 14mm from top)Pull forward to release from differential then pull back to remove from transmission (be sure to use small pan to catch any fluid that may come out.(Awesome you got it out now the fun begins)You will need to remove inner clips (flat head screw driver will do)I used two sockets one bigger and one smaller than the universal cups and of course a hammer (try not to hit bar lobes can easily be damaged. after they are out you'll want to clean the inner lobes of both sides (i used sand paper) then used a little grease to make the installation of caps easier (very important not to lose any needle bearings i filled caps with grease so needles wont fall out of place don't worry excess grease grease can always be wiped off) Place the universal joint in the lobes and then gently place caps on both sides. Use a 6 inch C clamp to push caps on both sides back in you may need to tap a little with hammer then install clips using pliers. finally install shaft back into trans tighten center bearing and then install the last 4 bolts to rear end. carefully bring back down and drive. total time 3hrs here some extra info.

1) install grease fitting first before installing u-joint be sure to place fitting in angle

this will make it easier to use grease gun

2) lube all u-joints before installation of shaft. this will be easier than doing it under vehicle

also dealer wanted $800.00 yes!! $800.00 for whole drive shaft. I got my u-joint from D.S.I. Texas for $25.50+ship ph#1-866-455-6622

they also sell whole driveshaft $365.00

No fill plug on 1996 s10 rear differential How do you change the fluid?

My 95 S10 had no drain plug either, just a fill plug on the upper passenger side of the pumpkin, just ahead of the right side axle. Unscrew this first to make sure you can get it out before removing the rear plate and draining fluid. I think I used a 3/8 extension bar to fit in the square hole on that fill plug. Put a drain pan under the differential housing to catch the oil as you will have to remove the 10 screws and allow fluid to drain out that way. After removing screws (starting with bottom and working your way to upper screws) you may have to pry the cover plate off differential with a putty knife or screwdriver without bending it. Scrape all gasket vestiges off of housing and the cover. I used a gasket remover spray auto parts stores have to get tough pieces off. Take the cover to an auto part store so they may give you the exact gasket for it, as it seems S10's could use three different sizes depending on the rear end. While at the store, get this gasket, some RTV sealer for it, and the correct gear fluid for the temperatures where you live. I got Mobil1 Synthetic. I applied sealer to cover and housing, applied gasket to cover, and carefully placed cover on housing. Put in screws. I torqued screws to10-15 ft.lbs as I recall. Now fill the gear oil into the fill plug until it starts to drip out. This was about two bottles (quarts) as I recall. I put one of those plastic tubes on the bottles the store sells to make filling easier. Hope that does it.

How do you take out the rear axle gear out of the casing do you need a special tool for it does any one have a diagram?

You'll more than likely need to pop the axles out, remove the drive shaft. Remove the nut on the rear yoke and remove the rear yoke (puller). Than you can remove the rear differential by unbolting it behind the cover. this is very dellicate if you dont know what your doing dont do it, this is one of those things to take to a shop cause you can more damage trying to fix it

Difference between void agreement and void contract?

1. An agreement which is not enforceable by law by either of the parties is void agreement .Whereas, an agreement which was legally enforceable when entered into but which has become void due to supervening impossibility of performance.

2.For example:All domestic and social agreements can never create any legal rights and obligations. Also, an agreement without consideration or with minor is void agreement. A contract b/w a citizen of Pakistan and India is valid contract during peace but if war breaks out b/w both, the agreement will become void contract.
