What was Banting and Best's scientific research?

Banting was an out-of-work doctor/surgeon and Best a medical student in Toronto. The problem with isolating insulin (which controls the blood sugar level) was that the pancreas contained enzymes that destroyed the insulin if it was cut out. Banting had the idea of ligaturing the pancreas in situ so that it withered away leaving the insulin largely unaffected. He employed Best (a doctor's son) to help with the surgery and look after the dogs on which it was done with the permission of the University Professor in charge of the department. I think he was called McLeod (anyway he was a Scot). The experiments were carried out during the summer vacation under hot inclement conditions in a garret room, but they worked. The Nobel prize was given to Banting and McLeod (just because he was head of department and although he was not involved in the research in any way) but not to Best who did all the nasty work. It was said that, as a mere student, he was too young to receive an award. However, he did ultimately become head of department. I was in Toronto fairly soon after his death and was shown his office by his secretary who said that he was a really nice man. So he did win after all.

I should mention that there had been numerous attempts to isolate insulin by the more traditional biochemical methods of isolation and extraction of the pancreas but all had failed. So it was a signal achievement as well as one that was put to practical use in saving lives in the shortest possible time. It would not happen today!!

What are the occupational outlook for pediatrician?

As long as kids continue to be born, the outlook is good.

Government economists expect faster-than-average job growth for doctors, including pediatricians, through 2014. However, changes in health care coverage and advances in technology could potentially limit some demand for doctors. Rural and low-income areas will have the most opportunities because of less competition for jobs. Medical research jobs, especially in the areas of AIDS and cancer, are well funded and open to pediatricians who specialize in these areas, but they are also competitive.

What are female doctors?

Anytime a male doctor is examining a female patient, a second person must be in the same room or in visible line of site.

Same is true when female doctor is examining a male patient.

Apart from having a female assistant, there should be real need of examining the female body private parts.

Recently I have seen a Homeopathy doctor near central bank street has examined a female patient. Her complaint is sometimes she is getting a small leak of stools unknowingly in her underwear. This doctor (he is an M.D., even) has asked her how do you feel at home you get angry? she said yes i will be shouting some times my children even for simple reasons after that I realize she said. He asked again another question any back pain. She said yes. really she is a very good looking a very pleasant family woman, 35 years of age. He suddenly touched her body. He kept his hands, without gloves, under the Punjabi tops and started massaging on the name of testing I could see very clearly the erotic feelings in his face for more than ten to minutes. and that married woman she was under some confusion, and after that he took stethoscope as if he is testing her heart. In fact she has no B.P., nor she had any heart complaint, he is touching her nipples with his fingers while testing and pressing her Brest one after other. She thought that was usual doctor's checking, and then he kept his hand below the stomach and asked her to bend fully to her front side. He kept his hand fingers widely it seems his lost finger while she bending, she realized, that is almost going inside of her vagina. Here she was a bit nervous and he asked again to bend to her front side again his finger went inside. She was feeling very much nervous and shivering he askied again to bend her again the same thing repeated to her. And she even confirmed that his touch is not a normal medical examination checking like it is a erotic minded male touch some thing like foreplay. At the end he is telling it is complaint of nerves weakness and gave some medicines. In fact the name of the doctor I am not revealing because we want to give a complaint against his sexual misbehavour on the name of medical check. We asked another female doctor for clarification about this case. She once again confirmed that what we suspected is absolutely right, and she also told she even saw so many cases like this in her life. What this woman has to do in this case? How to complain on him?

Why do doctors wear green for operations?

Green could help doctors see better as they keep looking at bloody things and stare at red color for too long so the red signal in the brain actually fades, which could make it harder to see by time..blue or green can refresh a doctor's vision of red things as brain interprets colors relative to each other and the relative color for red is blue..Looking at something green from time to time can keep someone's eyes more sensitive to variations in red, according to John Werner, a psychologist who studies vision at the University of California, Davis.

What classes do you need to take if you are a freshman at a community college and want to become a pediatrician?

I am glad that you are going to school. What you need to do is to make an appointment to speak with an advisor. You should have one assigned to you. They might even have a medical program for you to go into that will help you out with becoming a pediatric. Your advisor will help you in deciding which classes are best for you to take and ones that will transfer to your next college. Good luck and God Bless:)

What type of questions should you ask your doctors about kidney cancer?

The biggest question would have to be what can "you" do to help fight the cancer. Being condfident is actually a good way to fight diseases. People are more prone to diseases if they are depressed. Eat right to keep your immune system in good condition, work out/exercise. Then the next question I would say is what can "he" do to help? What medical treatements are available? Ask him for details but always do your own research (the web is a great internet, there is more information online than anywhere).

What education is needed after high school for a orthodontist?

The following is written by and according to the U.S. Department of Labor and particular to the education and training required for Dentists.

All 50 States and the District of Columbia require dentists to be licensed. To qualify for a license in most States, candidates must graduate from an accredited dental school and pass written and practical examinations.

Education and training. In 2006, there were 56 dental schools accredited by the American Dental Association's (ADA's) Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dental schools require a minimum of 2 years of college-level predental education prior to admittance. Most dental students have at least a bachelor's degree before entering dental school, although a few applicants are accepted to dental school after 2 or 3 years of college and complete their bachelor's degree while attending dental school.

High school and college students who want to become dentists should take courses in biology, chemistry, physics, health, and mathematics. College undergraduates planning on applying to dental school are required to take many science courses. Because of this, some choose a major in a science, such as biology or chemistry, while others take the required science coursework while pursuing a major in another subject.

All dental schools require applicants to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). When selecting students, schools consider scores earned on the DAT, applicants' grade point averages, and information gathered through recommendations and interviews. Competition for admission to dental school is keen.

Dental school usually lasts 4 academic years. Studies begin with classroom instruction and laboratory work in science, including anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, and physiology. Beginning courses in clinical sciences, including laboratory techniques, are also completed. During the last 2 years, students treat patients, usually in dental clinics, under the supervision of licensed dentists. Most dental schools award the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Others award an equivalent degree, Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Some dental school graduates work for established dentists as associates for 1 to 2 years to gain experience and save money to equip an office of their own. Most dental school graduates, however, purchase an established practice or open a new one immediately after graduation.

Licensure. Licensing is required to practice as a dentist. In most States, licensure requires passing written and practical examinations in addition to having a degree from an accredited dental school. Candidates may fulfill the written part of the State licensing requirements by passing the National Board Dental Examinations. Individual States or regional testing agencies administer the written or practical examinations.

In 2006, 17 States licensed or certified dentists who intended to practice in a specialty area. Requirements include 2 to 4 years of postgraduate education and, in some cases, the completion of a special State examination. Most State licenses permit dentists to engage in both general and specialized practice.

Other qualifications. Dentistry requires diagnostic ability and manual skills. Dentists should have good visual memory, excellent judgment regarding space, shape, and color, a high degree of manual dexterity, and scientific ability. Good business sense, self-discipline, and good communication skills are helpful for success in private practice.

Advancement. Dentists who want to teach or conduct research usually spend an additional 2 to 5 years in advanced dental training, in programs operated by dental schools or hospitals. A recent survey by the American Dental Education Association showed that 11 percent of new graduates enrolled in postgraduate training programs to prepare for a dental specialty.
