First locate the belt tensioner. On the 3.0L (88 - 90) it takes a 1/2 inch breaker bar to release the tension lift the breaker bar towards the top of the engine (Counter Clock Wise). On 3.3L and 3.8L you pull the breaker towards the front of the van (Clock Wise). (Maybe hundreds of dollars, but lots) driving to work one day and all of a sudden i feel a little shudder/ shake in the vehicle, immediately look at the dash board for lights or something and i see my speedo needle drop to zero. car kept going but after a few minutes the overdrive light starts flashing on the dashboard and it wouldn't shift properly. took it to Mr. Transmission (Canada) and they tried to tell me my tranny is very much screwed inside and they will need 1800 to 2200 dollars to fix it. i told them absolutely no way im going to spend that much money on a car i only paid a thousand dollars for. he says,, hold on , there might be a way to save you a lot of money. goes in back, comes back out and says "were going to replace your speed sensor and see if that fixes the electronics connection and sort everything out. Sure enough, $250.00 later the car is fixed (and im sure they made money on that as well)Dude was totally ready to take my 2000.00 bucks if i was ready to give it to him. Be careful people. Do major research before you take your care to a repair shop. It is sickening how their main goal is to screw you over now or tinker with something in your car so you will have to come back later.
