What does the flag of holland look like?

They are the same country!!!!!!!!!

Other view:

They kind of are, but not fully. Holland is mostly meant for two provinces in the Netherlands (North-Holland and South-Holland) some people who don't live in one of these provinces don't like people to call the Netherlands Holland. Personally, I'm living in South-Holland and I sometimes use The Netherlands and other times Holland. Most people know what I mean and Holland is just easier to say.

Oh, and with most football things it says 'Holland' not the Netherlands.

Edit:I have to disagree with Saskia a little, I am from the eastern part of the Netherlands, or Holland whatever suits you best ;) I also use mainly Holland when I talk to foreign people (especially Germans), because this is what they use most often.

I think most foreigners use Holland instead of The Netherlands, there is an explanation for this, I'll try to keep it short:

Before 1814 (When The Kingdom of the Netherlands was grounded) most dutch people who went abroad were sailors from Holland, the western part of nowadays Netherlands, which are now called North and South-Holland. Therefor those people called themselves Hollanders from Holland, since foreigners mainly met sailors from Holland, they believed everybody from this area is living in Holland.

I think you can compare it a little with former Sovjet countries nowadays, a lot of people living in Kazachstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia are still seen as Russians by foreigners. When your neighbour would be from 1 of those countries, a lot of people in your neighbourhood would know him as the guy from Russia.

Who made the Puerto Rican flag?

The origins of the current flag of Puerto Rico, adopted by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in 1952, can be traced to 1868, when the original Puerto Rican flag, "The Revolutionary Flag of Lares", was conceived by Dr. Ramon Emeterio Betances and embroidered by Mariana "Brazos de Oro" Bracetti. This flag was used in the short lived Puerto Rican revolt against Spanish rule in the island, known as "El Grito de Lares".

Juan de Mata Terreforte, an exiled veteran of "El Grito de Lares" and Vice-President of Puerto Rican Revolutionary Committee, in New York City, adopted the Flag of Lares as the flag of Puerto Rico until 1892, when the current design, modeled after the Cuban flag, was unveiled and adopted by the committee. The new flag consisted of five equal horizontal bands of red (top and bottom) alternating with white; a blue isosceles triangle based on the hoist side bears a large, white, five-pointed star in the center. The use and display of the Puerto Rican flag was outlawed and the only flags permitted to be flown in Puerto Rico were the Spanish flag (1492 to 1898) and the flag of the United States (1898 to 1952).

In 1952, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico adopted the same flag design, which was unveiled in 1892 by the Puerto Rican Revolutionary Committee, as its official standard without specifying the tones of colors to be used. The color of the triangle that was used by the administration of Luis Muñoz Marín was the dark blue that is used in the flag of the United States, instead of the original light blue, thus creating a political controversy which has lasted throughout the years. In 1995, the government of Puerto Rico, issued a regulation in regard to the use of the Puerto Rican flag titled: "Reglamento sobre el Uso en Puerto Rico de la Bandera del Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico" in which the government specifies the colors to be used but, does not specify any official color tones or shades. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see the Flag of Puerto Rico with different shades of blue displayed in the island.

What state can fly it's flag at the same height as the American flag?

The Texas flag often is placed on a flagpole at the same height as the U.S. flag on its flagpole, and it's sometimes said that Texas is the only state that can do this. The explanation given is that Texas-unlike other states-was a Republic when in entered the Union. A (licensed?) tour guide of the Texas capital city of Austin tells this on his tours.

It is an urban legend. All states can fly a state flag at the same height as the United States flag. However, if both flags are on the same flagpole, the U.S. flag code states that the United States flag must be on top.

This urban legend has been spread by word of mouth for many years, but started appearing on the internet by at least 1994 on lists such as "useless facts" and "Texas facts."

Why did Libya change its flag?

First, we should note that the all-green flag has been retired since the fall of Gadhafi and replaced with the Senussi Standard, which flew over Tripoli during the reign of King Idris I of Libya (chief of the Senussi Muslim Order).

However, the reasons that Gadhafi chose to make the flag green are several. Green is the traditional color of Islam and represents growth and flourishing, given the rarity of seeing green in a desert-country like Libya. The color also represents Gadhafi's the Green Book, a 1975 collection of Gadhafi's personal views on everything from science to history and which rarely features facts of any substance. The Green Book was required instruction in Libya while Gadhafi was in power.

Which shape is found on the Swiss flag?

The Swiss flag is a square (the only quadratic flag in the world, besides the State of the Vatican) composed of a white cross (centered) on red background.

Three remarks can be added: The Swiss flag is the color inversed flag of the Red Cross Organisation (I hope everyone knows what that is!!!); that's because the Red Cross has originally been created by the Swiss Henry Dunant because of the wounded soldiers in the battle of Solferino 1859 - he therefore simply inverted the colors of his country's flag. Second, the Swiss flag appeared for the first time in 1339 during a battle and representing the confederate troops. Third, the Swiss flag is used in a 2:3 dimension (not squared) on sea.

Can the Texas flag fly higher than the American flag?

According to USFlag.org, any state flag can be flown at the same height as long as the U.S. flag is on the right. There does not exist anywhere in U.S. or Texas flag code -- nor is there any law -- that states Texas has any special privileges for its flag (that's an urban legend).

"When flown with flags of states, communities, or societies on separate flag poles which are of the same height and in a straight line, the flag of the United States is always placed in the position of honor, to its own right.

...The other flags may be smaller but none may be larger.

...No other flag ever should be placed above it.

...The flag of the United States is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered."
