What would cause the tires to wobble at medium to high speeds?

Alignment will not cause a noise...directly. It may cause tires to wear irregularly to cause a noise. Run your hand over the tire tread. is it smooth?Maybe the rear wheels were overtightened and the bearings are shot.

If they wobble and your steering wheel moves back and forth, it is usually a bad tire (s).

If you are getting a noise as you describe it is usually uneven chopped wear of tires. Or bad bearing(S).

Rotating them every 5-8000 miles should keep them wearing evenly if the alignment is good. If they alignment is out, they may wear abnormal regardless of rotation and may make noise. Rotating abnormally worn tires will shift the noise if they are the cause.

Balancing a good tire keeps the tire from vibrating at various speeds.

Bearings in most cases would need replacement.Your description makes me think tires and or bearings.

Or you could just check to see if there is anything inside the rim like gravel or dirt, or in North Dakota, snow. i know this for sure only happens when driving faster like on a highway, it happens to me quite a bit and the shaking is caused because there is more dirt stuck on one side of the rim than the other and causes your tire to become unbalanced

Why would the brake lights work on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee but tail lights and console lights do not work?

Console lights and brake lighting are on different circuits (Fused seperately). Check the following: bulbs, bases, corroded connections, poor ground, blown fuses, faulty light switch.

Why would your lights not work after you replace the starter?

You might have installed the starter with the wrong size sledge hammer. Actually I would start with the basics and check for a blown fuse. What lights do you refer to? Inside, outside or trouble lights? All lights? A word of caution: Sometimes with auto repair you can't assume that Action A caused Problem B.

In Response To My Own Question: I finally figured it out ... the starter's main post had more wires on it than I realized at the time, ( I didn't take them off originally). I found that the light circuit went thru the starter post, and when attached to the ground terminals instead of the battery post on the solenoid I had "NO LIGHTS".

Thanks for trying, someone in the future.

How To

How to remove and replace the radio from 2005 Ford Explorer xlt?

Tools NeededTo remove the radio you will need a "Radio Removal Tool". This is a "U" shaped pin with a dent at the end. This can be commonly found at auto parts stores or, WalMart, etc (widely available for $3-$4). Steps To Remove the Stock RadioThe radio has two holes in each end (four holes total)
  • Insert the removal tool into the holes on each side (This will release the catches holding the radio into the dash)
  • Slide the radio toward you
Other ReferencesThe link below gives instructions for radio removal and includes photos

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/FLM/PDF/356007.pdf

You can also make your own removing tool from a wire coat hanger: cut 2 U-shaped pieces (about 8" each) and insert them into the 2 holes in the front of your head unit; using a sideways motion and pulling towards you will do the trick, just be carefull when inserting the tool to not scratch the finish on the unit.

I tried the wire hangar solution but went and bought the tool anyway. Either would probably work, but the tool is a bit more sturdy / stiff. Here are the instructions that come with the tool:

  • Disconnect negative battery wire
  • Insert the removal tool into the holes on either side of the faceplate
  • Push the tools forward about 1 inch until the retaining clips are released
  • Grasp the tools tightly and pull apart slightly as you pull the unit from the dash

-Simply use a number 7 socket to remove the 2 mounting screws, then use a flat head screw driver to pry it out. JLKautoparts.com

How can you find out why the SRS air bag light is on all the time on a 1996 Honda Accord?

The reason it stays on is because it is malfuctioning. take it into the dealer and have it fix. things that could go wrong by not bring it in is. 1 it might not work in a car accident 2 it might go off just because, causing serries damage to ones body. also look up www.recalls.com and see if there is a recall on this or anything else on your car. you can get the recall tickets and it want cost you a dime. good luck

I have the same problem on my 1995 Accord EX. The SRS light is always on, which means there's a problem with the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) and your airbags won't deploy if you crash. Here's how to find out the specific problem: 1) Turn the car off, and remove the keys from the ignition. Take a seat on the passenger side and open up the glove box. 2) Remove one or two of the knobs (not the hinges) that keep the glove box from flopping all the way down and spilling its contents on the floor. In my car, the left one could be popped out by pinching and then pulling. Once that's off, I just pulled the glove box forward and squeezed / bent the right side knob past the plastic. Everything's plastic I think, so a little carefully-applied force shouldn't hurt anything. 3) Now the glove box will flop forward, and let you see behind. Find some wires that lead to a blue plug, probably snapped onto a bracket of some kind. 4) The big plug should contain (at least on my car) two smaller plugs: a 3-wire plug and a 2-wire plug. The 3-wire is for some scanning tool - leave it alone. The 2-wire plug is the service connector. Take a piece of wire or paperclip and jump the connector (insert one end of wire in each part of plug). 5) Turn the car on, but don't start it. All the lights will come on, and then your SRS light will start a blink pattern: -- SOLID LONG ON -- PAUSE -- series of Long blinks -- series of Short blinks -- repeat On my car, the series was 5 longs and 1 short, a code 5-1. 6) Note your code (double-check it too), and call your local Honda dealer's service department. Tell them the SRS service code and ask them to look up its meaning. Hopefully it's something easy. 7) *IMPORTANT* Check out the NHTSA ( http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ ) to see if your SRS module is eligible for a recall - mine was. This could save you hundreds of dollars.

SIDE NOTE:

As a side note to this it should be pointed out that ( in my case ) my 2000 Honda Civic CX 3 door hatch was displaying the SRS light. Diagnostics test revealed that the passenger side air bag was faulty ( even though this model never came out with a passenger side airbag ). Further examination revealed it to be a resistor showing a slightly higher resistance value than was expected my the airbag module. This resistor is used to trick the module into believing that there is a passenger airbag ( presumably this module is used in a number of Hondas). Solution: replace the $30.00 resister.

could be just as simple as a bad battery have the battery check and replaced then get the light reset

How do you fix a parking brake if the button got knocked out of the handle?

Depending on the age of the car I would call or visit either a) (New) the dealer, b) (3-5years old) the manufacturer-specific wrecking yard, or c) (ancient) the local pull-it yourself wrecking yard.

I would buy whatever parts they recommended, and then take apart the whole thing and fix it.

A Haynes (or equivalent) repair manual for your car (about $20 at the local auto parts stoor ) is a good starting point.

2002 Saturn SL2 or SL1 or other similar years

Remove the black sheet metal screw on the passenger side of the rubber boot on the brake handle assembly. Wiggle the entire plastic handle and boot off the brake handle. The button is about 1" x 1" x 3/8". It is tapped with a #10 x 24 thread and screwed onto the operating rod. The spring that locks the button fits onto the threaded rod and operates by pushing the button out to lock the handle in position.

I was able to repair the stripped button with epoxy. First you must take the tension off the spring by compressing the spring and tying it with very thin wire or fishing line. Slip the spring onto the rod and slip it into the notch in the stamped metal handle. Glue the button back on. Make sure it is aligned properly. Now wait 24 hours or so for the epoxy to set-up and harden. Don't forget to put a rag under the epoxy to catch any drips. After the exopy is hard, snip off the wire compressing the locking spring and pull out the bits with needlenose pliers. Reinstall the boot and reinstall the screw.

You have just saved about 380 bucks based on NYC dealer prices for parts & labor.

How do you change the rear left brake light bulb on a Mitsubishi Galant 2001?

Bare with me because I am trying to remember this from memory. If you open your trunk and look on the inside next to the light being replaced, you should see three black protectors which probably appear to hold up the trunk carpeting interior. Remove these protectors and pull back the carpeting (held on by velcro attachments). You should now see three bolts with retaining nuts. Remove the nuts with a deep 10mm socket and pull the light from the body from the outside of the car. After the light is out, you will see three light sockets. The brake light should be the most inner light. Twist the socket towards the left and the light should easily come out. Remove the bulb and replace it with the exact same bulb. The bulb has two filaments, one for the park lights and the other for the brake lights. After you've replaced the bulb, installation is the reverse of removal.

What size are the speakers in Ford Explorers?

Speakers

Ford Explorers utilize an oblong speaker 5x7 or 6x8.

According to Crutchfield's site it is 6x8 for both front and back doors. And fyi - there are a couple great videos on youtube on how to take the doors apart to replace said speakers.

I used 6x8 in my Explorer XLT. Pioneer makes a model 6870R that fits perfectly. 5X7

How do you remove the stock stereo in a 1991 Mercury Capri?

hi, the four little holes in the front of the stereo are for 2 special tools. they are cheap (i think) and most shops have them around. it only takes 2 minutes to remove with the tools, so it shouldn't cost much to have a shop do it if you dont want to buy the tools. hope that helps

you can get the u shaped tools at walmart for about 7 bucks in the car stereo section wamong the installation kits.

I'll add you insert the two tools until you feel the first click. Then push each tool outwards towards the sides of the stereo which releases the catches. While doing that then pull straight out. The tools are readily available anywhere they sell stereos.

Why would the brake lights on your 1994 Corvette not function except the center high one which works fine?

Answer

Try checking your fuse for your tail lights in your fuse box if that doesnt work try check for a short in your wiring

Answer

I noticed on my 1990 did the same. Also found out it only happens when the TILT wheel is completely down. Try lifting the tilt wheel up and down with someone watching your brake lights. Have not pinned down the source in the column yet, but will keep looking!!!

The brake light switch is probably the problem. My '91 had the opposite - the brake lights worked but the 3rd light did not. The brake light switch has 2 terminals - one for brake lights and one for the 3rd brake light. Replace the switch.

How would you replace the ball joint on your 90 accord?

I'm assuming that you are talking about the front lower ball joint as they are the most common. You remove the tire then remove the axle nut in the center of the rotor it is a should be a 32mm socket. removw the lower ball joint nut, it is a 17mm socket then with a ball hammer hit the metal casing were the ball joint goes through the lower control arm, do not hammer on the ball joint itself! it will change tone when the socket pops. when it pops pick up the assembly by the rotor and remove the lower ball joint arm from the lower control arm and remove the axle from the hub assembly. there is a retainer clip on the lower part of the ball joint that you will need to remove you will need a pair of snapring pliers for this. after removing the snapring you need to hammer the ball joint up and out of the hub. Just do these instructions backwards to install. Good luck

If it's the UPPER ball joint, the whole control arm has to be replaced (the ball joint is made into the control arm, and it's non replaceable).

Remove cotter pin and nut from ball joint. Get a big, heavy hammer, and hit the spindle as close to the ball joint as possible (you may have to whack it a few times). That will break the ball joint loose from the spindle.

Once is loose, remove the bolts that attach the control arm to the body.
