How do you re-start a Ford Windstar after running out of fuel?
My wife just ran my 2001 out of gas the other day - all I did was put about a half gallon in the tank and it started right up.
You may need to cycle the key to the ON position 4 or 5 times - without starting the engine - this allows the fuel pump to re-pressurize the line.
If that doesn't do it, double-check the emergency fuel shutoff switch in the back right corner of the "way back" - in the same compartment as the tire jack.

Cooling System- Drain and Fill
Ensure that the engine is completely cool prior to starting this service.
- Remove the recovery tank / coolant reservoir or radiator cap.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Place a drain pan of sufficient capacity under the radiator and open the petcock (drain) on the radiator.
Plastic petcocks easily bind. Before opening a plastic radiator petcock, spray it with some penetrating lubricant. - Drain the cooling system completely.
- Close the petcock.
- Remove the drain pan.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Determine the capacity of the cooling system, then property refill the system with a 50/50 mixture of fresh coolant and distilled water.
- Leave the recovery tank or radiator cap off to aid in bleeding the system.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle until the thermostat opens (the upper radiator hose will become hot). The coolant level should go down, this is normal as the system bleeds the air pockets out of the system.
- Refill the system with coolant to the proper level.
- Turn the engine OFF and check for leaks.
Look for a drain petcock. If there is none, then simply remove the lower radiator hose.

You have a faulty temp blend door motor, located behind the radio. It is the motor/actuator that controls the temperature blend door in the heater box. It isn't hard to replace, but it may be a little tricky to get to. You will need to remove the radio, and way back in there, you will see a square plastic thing mounted to the heater case, either black or off-white colored with one electrical connector and held on with three or four 8mm screws. Remove the screws with a long socket extension and replace the motor. If you drop anything, you can retrieve it by removing the lower trim panel around the base of the dash at the floor tunnel, which is held in place with 4 plastic screws.
According to the Owners Manual, fuse #2 & #6 relate to the entertainment / VHS system.

If it is like my 2001 Windstar SEL, an Autovision VE6825 VHS player, the problem is caused by one or more of the four black wires breaking just where the top panel flips open. I opened mine up and soldered in a heavier gauge wire. It has nothing to do with fuses if the interior eject button still functions.
