A cat that has died will not be breathing, moving or responding to you, and depending how long the cat has been dead might be a little stiff from rigor mortis from setting in.

On the SOHC (non-gsi), it's on the middle part of the crank pulley, the ridge that is in between the steering and alternator belts. You will not be able to see it. It is a tiny nick that you can just barely feel with your finger nail. I have no idea why they did not make it more visible at the factory. Once you find it, put some white out on your finger and reach down there and dab it. Don't do what I did and spill a whole bottle down the side of the motor.

The only way that this can happen is if your alternator is "grounding out". Your alternator is seriously letting some juice through it. Replace it. This could ignite under hood fire. Way too much voltage is going through it for some reason. This is all I can think of without looking at it. Hope this helps. Sorry I told you the wrong term. Its not grounding out it is just letting too much voltage through. Another possibility is that the wires are switched somehow, but you would have other serious problem that could result in frying the electrical system. Make sure batter cables and the alternator connections are connected correctly.

Own one myself, was actually looking to see what was the best weighted motor oil to put in it, but while I'm on might as well answer this. 4 quarts typically does the trick, but you could always pour in a couple, then one at a time, while parked on a flat surface and let sit for a day, then you could get a accurate reading from your dipstick.

To replace a thermostat on a 1992 Geo Storm first locate the its housing. Once found drain the coolant system and remove the housing from the engine. Replace the thermostat.

If it blinks 6 times and then goes out after starting the engine. It means the system is functioning normally.

If it stays lit or does not come up get it serviced. The air bag won't deploy in a crash.

I had the same issue and replaced the ignition control module and it started up fine. I also replaced the O2 sensor.

Some small cooling systems can be quickly overcome by cold air rushing thru an open grill; This is why you will sometimes see 'winterfronts' on some vehicles. Even cardboard in front of the grill will help.Make sure your radiator is full; even if it is a little low it will make a huge difference in it's ability to maintain heat as cold air rushes thru it. I've had the same problem with my Geo Storm recently. The car will start and run fine until it gets warmed up then the check engine light will come on and the car will hesitate, the tach will jump wildly and when you pull over, it will stall. When you try to start the car, it will fire intermittently and not start. After sitting for 30 minutes, it will start perfectly fine and run until it gets warmed up again. The computer keeps sending a code 42 (Ignition control module). I've replaced this and still no results. Also replaced the ECM because these models have had some trouble with them. Still no results...same thing. Last step was the ignition coil. So far it seems to be working ok and no problems. One of these components is bad. I recommend going with the coil first since its only about $20, then the ignition control module...about $45 then the computer which runs about $120 for a remanufactured one. I suspect the ignition coil is overheating and breaking down. Also, move the coil farther away from the radiatior hose to eliminate any excess heat caused by the hot coolant. If my car acts up again its going to the junk yard after these fixes. The car is just not worth the headaches. Other: Check the Idle air control valve. I've Got a 90 Lincoln Town car that was acting this way. I removed the IAC, cleaned it with brake cleaner and now the car runs much, much better. I do not know if the geo has this, or where it is, but it should. (I'm trying to figure out why my sister's geo won't start right now.)

tdc mark is the longest mark,there should be shorter ones on either side as timing is set a few degrees off tdc, but you need tdc to start the timing process If you have a concern about TDC, and don't know of any other way to find it, try this: Pull the #1 sparkplug, put a long, narrow screwdriver or other clean, narrow device into the hole, then turn the engine BY HAND (don't use the starter) until you see the screwdriver at the top. You should be able to turn the engine back a little to seek the top. At that point there should be a mark and a reference point somewhere on the harmonic balancer. If you can't find a mark, make your own. It's possible that over the history of the engine someone may have removed the reference marker so you may need to do something yourself. Good luck. ** More ** The piston will raise twice, once on the exhaust stroke and again on the compression stroke, TDC is based on the compression stroke so following the above advice, when the narrow device starts to come up, remove it and insert your fingertip to feel pressure building up, when you feel pressure building up, the piston is on compression stroke, remove your finger and continue with narrow device as described.

Try wiggling the starter solenoid wire. My 91 after so many random starts did/does this and cleaning/tightning the terminal clip works every time.
