Why does a garage door opener with or without the door hooked open only a foot or two and then stop and does the same if the door is open and you try to close it?

Answer 1I am not a garage door opener technician, only a user for many years. The following answer is based on my experience, and hopefully will be replaced or improved by a professional.

Many garage door opener manufacturers, in order to make their product SAFER, have added a circuit in the motor, which measures the amount and changes in the operating electrical current. The purpose of this is to detect anything blocking the movement of the door [e.g., a child, a person, a pet, a vehicle, etc.] Even "dragging" bearings/bushing INSIDE the motor can cause this.

Upon detection, the door is supposed to stop, and, sometimes, even return to its previous stopped position [usually full open]. ANYTHING, which causes the door motor to "work harder," can trick that detector and cause the situation you describe.

If there is nothing blocking the door, I have found that "dragging" rollers, or bearings/bushings inside the motor, can cause the problem. If this is the cause in your case, then you probably can correct it.

First, carefully CLEAN all accumulated dust, dirt, lint, cobwebs, grease, etc from the tracks, the rollers, and the roller axles. Then carefully lubricate all roller bearings/axles with JUST 2 or 3 DROPS each of any clean oil. Do NOT overlubricate as this just encourages more accumulation of debris.

Another possibility is that some, or all, of the rollers and/or their bearings/bushings are worn out, causing the drag, and then it will be necessary to replace them. These parts are usually available at your local hardware stores, or home improvement warehouses like Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

IF your problem is caused by "drag," then proper cleaning and lubrication will fix the problem. Also, drag can be caused by misalignment of any of the tracks, and or bending damage to the door or tracks. Good luck 1 j3h

Where is the air conditioner drain hose on a 2004 GMC Envoy?

The drain hose is located to the left of the engine compartment just below the AC lines coming out of the firewall. There is a rubber tube about 1" diameter and it has a small plastic tube coming out from the bottom side of the larger tube. This sometimes gets blocked and causes leaking onto the rug area inside the truck, just pull the larger tube out and clean the small/large tube. If there is any water from the AC it will drain out. Where is the fuse box for the power windows on a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo?

Open the drivers side door, look at the end or side of dash where door meets. Try that Look under the dash where the other fuses are and you will see a little fuse block with a tiny red reset button. If the button is out, push it in to reset your window fuse. My windows have quit working twice and I had to do this, and then I haven't had the problem in months.

How does an 4 wheel drive actuator work?

It is a solenoid that engages the front axle. The driver side axle is always engaged, the actuator engages the passenger side axle through a fork locking in the front axle. When you engage 4x4 in the truck, a switch on the transfer case allows power to the actuator. The newer actuators are all electric, the older models are gas over electric, and could act slowly. if at all. GM does make a conversion kit to mount the newer style actuator on older trucks. Need more help contact me through my board and I will try to help.

Does the main power line for the windows lead into the fuse box from the stereo on a '95 Z28?

I have a 1996 Z28 SS. My radio turn on and off. when it's off there is no power to the radio fuse or power window circuit breaker. I would say that it does ???

I had the exact same problem on my 97 Z28.

The problem is the "body control module". This module turns your radio on and off and provides power to your windows. These modules develope a bad solder spot on the circuit board that is a very common problem.

The module is on the passenger side, up under the dash. Remove the cover that is under the dash and you will see a small box to the right with 2 plugs going into it. This is the module. You will need to unplug the 2 plugs(sometimes difficult, because there are tabs to push first) and pull the module out. Then the plastic box will open up and you will see a circuit board.

On the top side you will see some relays(for windows/radio/etc). The bad solder spot is on the bottom side of the circuit board, in the area where the relays are soldered. You will probably need a magnifying glass to find the bad spot. Look for a solder that has a crack or a dull look to it(mine had a crack).

If you know how to use a soldering gun, just heat up the spot to melt the old solder and apply some new solder(electronic type only) to it.

If you dont know how, have a friend do it for you.

Then re-install the box and that will fix your problem!

Why does 2003 Envoy front end squeak when brakes applied and vehicle starts to slow to a stop and replacing front brakes did not fix it?

It depends on the quality of the brake pads that were installed. It could also be a "glazing" of the pads and rotors due to your personal braking tendencies. I.E. riding the brakes or braking very slowly and early at red lights.
