Why is essay writing in college and university so difficult?

School is so hard because you need to be prepared for the 'real' world, which also sucks.

Of course, half the things you learn at school are completely useless when you're an adult and/or you forget them.

Because they take innocent children and try to transform them into adults while they're still young. They endure stress and frustration, all the time being told that this for learning and that this will help you with your future, when half of what they teach them is what you don't want and don't need to learn.

school sucks... its just plain and simple, just try to survive the 12 or more years of hell and try to get a job. It wont be much better...

What is a catchy phrase for a new business application?

The old marketing standby... the "catchy" phrase. A catchy phrase is generally a tagline, trademark or motto adopted by a consumer-oriented packaged goods company to promote a product. We've all heard a catchy phrase: 'Bounty is the quicker-picker-upper', 'The quality goes in before the name goes on'. The problem with generating a catchy phrase that it requires a thorough understanding of:

- the product and its characteristics, and

- the consumer the product is designed for.

Unfortunately, you can't just have someone think up a catchy phrase without those two things.

Your best bet is to hire a marketing professional and explain what you're selling and who you're selling it to. Then, you can ask for the "catchy phrase".

Can yellow journalism be treated as libel or slander Yellow journalism is false or exaggerated reporting can a journalist doing yellow journalism be sued for slander or libel?

Unfortunately, the way US libel and slander laws are written, it is difficult to prove intent. That is, did the journalist know the story was false and intentionally put it out there anyway, in order to defame someone's reputation? Historically, tabloid reporters have always hidden behind the defense of "but we thought it was true, and that's what we were told by our sources." Then they offer to issue an apology or correction. The problem with that is the false story is often on page 1, but the correction is on the last page in tiny little typeface. Tabloids historically have used exaggeration and sensationalism (so-called Yellow Journalism) to sell papers; there seems to be no way to ban that without violating the constitutional protection of freedom of the press in the First Amendment. A reputable and credible journalist relies on documented facts and does not exaggerate. Sadly, some people who call themselves journalists are really not, and they are not bringing honor to the profession, even if they get millions of people to read what they write.

What is the connection between multiculturalism and identity politics?

Many who have studied identity have explained that who a person is encompasses the breadth and depth of the life they live, have lived and will experience in the future. Conventional multicultural categorizations of are only pieces of the identity whole. The more expanded categorizations of gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, military affiliation, religion, education level, immigrant status, primary language, and physical/mental ability,http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_connection_between_multiculturalism_and_identity_politics&action=edit§ion=new#_ftn1 still only get us part of the way there. Several experiences inform a person's identity and identity politics scholars have challenged the limitedness of identity categorizations solely based on culture. Society's "official" identity categories can be a way to know who someone is but those are not the only markers. There are ways in which perceptions of who we are develop regardless of those. For one thing, who someone believe she is can be very different from who others believe her to be. Sometimes the reason for this disconnect is because they have been forced to hide certain things about themselves because they learned to fear negative treatment for showing their true selves. In addition, identity can also be contextual; what is alive for someone at the moment that they're asked who they are. If asked who you are on the morning that you've had an argument with your son, for example, you may be very aware of your parent self. Identity is also contextual in the historical sense, i.e., how I describe myself today is not necessarily who I was five years ago or will be in ten years. .

What are average television producer salaries?

Answer

Ask someone at the reference desk of your local public library for the Occupational Outlook Handbook. It lists all kinds of information you would need to know,(including the salary) of just about any occupation you can think of.

The most successful actors, producers, and directors may have extraordinarily high earnings but for others, because earnings may be erratic, many supplement their income by holding jobs in other fields.

Median hourly earnings of actors were $11.61 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $8.47 and $22.51. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $7.31, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $51.02. Median hourly earnings were $16.82 in performing arts companies and $10.69 in the motion picture and video industry. Annual earnings data for actors were not available because of the wide variation in the number of hours worked by actors and the short-term nature of many jobs, which may last for 1 day or 1 week; it is extremely rare for actors to have guaranteed employment that exceeded 3 to 6 months.

Median annual earnings of salaried producers and directors were $56,310 in 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $37,980 and $88,700. Median annual earnings were $70,750 in the motion picture and video industry and $47,530 in radio and television broadcasting.

Minimum salaries, hours of work, and other conditions of employment are often covered in collective bargaining agreements between the producers and the unions representing workers. The Actors' Equity Association (AEA) represents stage actors; the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) covers actors in motion pictures, including television, commercials, and film; and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) represents television and radio studio performers. Some actors who regularly work in several media find it advantageous to join multiple unions, while SAG and AFTRA may share jurisdiction for work in additional areas, such as the production of training or educational films not slated for broadcast, television commercial work, and interactive media. While these unions generally determine minimum salaries, any actor or director may negotiate for a salary higher than the minimum.

How many credits are needed for a bachleors degree in journalism?

A bachelor's degree in most areas can require between 124 to 128 college credits particular to a specific program of study. This would be based on a college or university that operates on a regular two semester academic year which is the most common. For institutions that operate on a tri-semester or quarter-semester it would be quite different. That being said, the Bachelor's degree - in most cases - is designed as a four year program of study, provided the student is full-time and follows their chosen program of study as prescribed by the college or university, and also provided the individual does not require prerequisite or developmental coursework. The minimum credit load for a full-time student is no less than 12 credits per semester. However, to complete the degree within the four years, a credit load of approximately 15 to 18 credits is recommended. For individuals who work or who have other responsibilities that would prohibit them from attending full-time, completion of the degree may take twice as long. Still, some of this time can be cut down by attending summer sessions and/or interim sessions. In addition, the bachelors and associate degrees are referred to as undergraduate degrees while the Masters and Doctorate degrees referred to as graduate degrees.

How do you plumb a new tap in?

If you're trying to tap in to an existing water line, there are three major types of pipe. Copper, plastic (cpvc, pvc, pex, etc.) and galvinized. Galvinized will require the cutting and threading of existing pipe which can be a problem if it is underground, particularly for a long time..... if this is the case - call a pro. PERIOD ( or buy a pipe treader, cutting oil and a "left / right" nipple set, some pipe wrenches and a permit). Depending on the type of plastic (if it is...) you may need to call a PRO. PVC and CPVC are pretty easy. If its PEX or another type of "non-glued" connections.... CALL A PRO, there are special tools and training needed (tools mostly) to perform these connections. Copper can be done easily with the right skill set and tools as well. Cut out a section of the "supply pipe" tp be tapped into equivalent to the "tee" that will supply the new branch, measuring from the bottom of the socket of the tee, prepare the socket of the tee and the two ends of the supply pipe according to the connection / pipe type..... Don't forget to turn off the water and drain the system... if it's a non threaded connection and it doesn't drain COMPLETELY, you'll wish you'd called a PRO. Either that or buy the tools necessarry to stop water from entering a connection while you're working on it.... Plastic PVC and CPVC - clean pipe, tee, etc of debis atc. Prime with approved primer, glue with approved glue and press fittings together with a 1/4 turn as it is engaged until set, usually 30 - 60 seconds. Make the connections and WAIT until water service is restored according to the label of the glue (silly!!). Copper - clean with abrasive cloth or tape, flux with soldering flux (applied with brush to all points of contact, sufficient but not liberal to cover entire joint) and heat joint areas with sufficient heat to draw solder into joint (this is a learned art, heating the joint from the opposite side of the point where solder is applied can be a good way to do it up to 1" pipe) be care ful to not start a fire with the torch, stupid...... that's why pros have "GL" .... general liability insurance. $3000 a year, just so if they start a fire inside the wall of your mobile home, they can replace your collection of Cuervo Bottles that were lost when the paneling caught fire.... You sure ya wanna try this? If it's tapping into a main to supply a new home being built on a lot..... CALL A PRO....; period. The city or county wouldn't let you do it anyway...

What are the regulations and rules for journalists reporting crime and visiting crime scenes?

There aren't any. They are simply members of the public doing a job and, upon necessity, can be excluded from crime scenes and disaster areas. In actuality, most(all?) law enforcement agencies issue credentials to the reporters of established news media that identify them and (when allowable) gives them access inside police perimeters. But other than that, they enjoy no special privileges.

Does journalism provide health insurance?

It may depending upon whether you are an employee of the publisher or freelance. The job is more likely to offer insurance benefits if you are an employee earning a salary or an houly wage, than if you are a freelancer (for example, paid by the article).

If insurance benefits are offered, you must be certain that the entity that is financially responsible for paying claims is a licensed insurer. There have been many well-publicized situations in the past when fake insurers have undertaken to provide health insurance plans. They seem appealing to employers because they tended to be less costly and would insure just about anyone. However, there was no licensed insurer behind the plan, they were scams, and many claims were left unpaid. You can check into the legitimacy of the insurer by contacting the state insurance department where the policy will be issued or where you will enroll.
