Can you tell me exactly how many people died in ww2?
There is no 100% accurate answer on this matter. People can argue that it is 72 million deaths, but others will argue that it is between 50-70 million deaths total. The Wikipedia article "World War II Casualties" favors the 72 million. 61 million were the Allies and 11 million were Axis. Approx. 23 million dead for the Soviet Union and 11-20 million for the Chinese. These figures of course include the number of dead civilians.
Germany total is approx. just under 7.4 million.
When shooting a rifle which eye is the strong eye?
Your strong eye has nothing to do with what you are doing with them.
Your strong eye is the one that leads or generally sees better. In many right handed people, this is the right eye which facilitates shooting since when you hold the rifle to shoot it right handed, your right eye naturally lines up with the sight. Having the opposite eye being strong tends to complicate shooting.
Typically for a right handed shooter, the right eye is the strongest. Try a simple test to determine which eye is stronger:
1. Make a small triangle with your palms away from you.
2. Slowly pull your hands toward you.
3. When it gets to your face it will have eventually begun to commit to an eye and that is your dominant eye!
Another test to determine dominant eye:
With both eyes open hold out your thumb at arms length and cover up a distant object. Close your right eye. If the object is still covered, your left eye is dominant. If the object can now be seen, it is your right eye.
(I shot pistol for years trying to sight with my right eye. Once I realized my left eye was dominant, my scores improved by 50%!)
Has anyone heard of having a pericardectomy that was due to an injury?
My answer would be YES. Through my rough and tumble life as a young kid i took quite a few major hits to the chest, starting with a 20 ft fall out of a barn, landed flat on my chest, yes its true i landed on bales of hay, but it hurt like heck! Then at 14 i was hit by a car , while on a bicycle, going to my paper route, result, 4 cracked ribs, punctured lung, spleen torn if half and a broken nose, major trauma to my left chest area. Two years later i had pericarditus. they ran a catheter in my right arm to draw the fluid out of my pericardial sac, they said it was all taken care of and i should have NO more problems. Well, at 51 I had constrictive pericarditus, so they removed the pericardium do to the build up of hard calcium, I'm just over 2 years past that point now and have had chest pains (still) for over a year, I can tell I still have a problem, my doctors are working on it. I have an Echo and a Tread Mill/EKG too set for next month, Jan 2010. YES, I think Trauma to the chest can cause serious problems, I got them! I Hope my answer Good enough to answer your question. Mike at 53yrs :)
What impact have LASERs had on human life?
Quite a lot. In developed countries, hardly a home DOESN'T have laser equipment. (Reminder: both CDs and DVDs use laser.) Lasers are also used for certain surgeries, for precision measurements, and for other purposes. You may want to read the Wikipedia article on "Laser" for more details.

Post stroke double vision prognosis?
It depends on the individual. It's important to work closely with the doctor in charge. The most concern is depression re Post stroke/double vision and the depression can be minor to chronic for up to three years. It's very important to talk to the specialist and family doctor as there are medications to help with depression. Other than that, follow doctors orders, watch your diet, get your exercise routine approved by the specialist and you should be fine.
Can you go swimming after lasik?
No..
Even the tissue that has been cut during the LASIK is a very thin tissue, you can get infection.
To prevent this your eye surgeon should have already given you antibiotic drops, however, you should also be cautious.
At Blumeditravel's Lasik surgery booklet which they give to patients, they recommend to:
* not to wash the face (1st day)
* not to have a shower (1st day)
* No Bath, sauna for 3 weeks.
* No swimming for 3 weeks, later swimming with goggles...
What do the letters stand for in the word lasik?
LASIK stands for Laser Assisted Stromal In-situ Keratomileusis. Basically this means that a laser, in this case an excimer laser (Ultraviolet wavelength) is used under a flap to treat the stroma, or the main structural component of the cornea. In situ means it is done right there, and keratomileusis refers to reshaping of the eye.
There are other adjectives which have been added to the LASIK description which include Custom or Wavefront type LASIK which refers to a more specialized treatment pattern related to the patent's eye. Also the method of making the flap modifies the description to all laser lasik, I-LASIK, etc. in the case where a laser is used to make the flap instead of the razor blade traditionally used for creating the flap.
The other laser treatment that is available is PRK, which stands for photorefractive keratectomy. This utilizes the same excimer laser, but on the surface rather than under a flap, but with a very similar treatment.

What are some complications of lasic eye surgery?
Although lasik surgery complications are rare there are still several that are a possibility to occur. The cut in the cornea to access the eye must be done correctly or it may not stick back to the eye as it should and could lead to an irregular astigmatism or keratoconus. There are also several other possible complications; over correction, under correction, decentered ablations, oversize pupils, of a haze that all may require re-treatment to correct.
Does laser eye treatment really work?
Yes, although it is way more expensive than glasses or even contacts. In the long run, laser surgery would be cheaper than buying contacts every year.
The average cost of lasik surger is from $1,580 for non customized, $2,150 for all laser-based vision correction procedures when a single price is quoted and $2,170 for wavefront-guided lasik.
Why can't some people have laser eye surgery?
There are many reasons someone may not be a good candidate for LASIK. I recommend patients not have LASIK surgery if their level of nearsightedness or farsightedness is too great (fortunately, there are alternative surgeries for many of these patients), if they have only one "good eye" and can't see well out of the other eye even with glasses or contacts, or have abnormal corneas. These are a few of the main problems I see, although there are many more.
Why can't people with glaucoma have LASIK?
Patients with glaucoma should not have LASIK because the intraocular pressure (IOP) of the eye is raised during the procedure.
Does lasik surgery only cure distance?
No. LASIK is routinely performed on individuals who are nearsighted, farsighted, and have astigmatism. For those patients who are approaching middle age and are noticing a change in their near vision (needing over-the-counter or prescription reading glasses), having LASIK will not correct their near vision. There is a modification we can make to the LASIK procedure called monovision which does allow them to see well up close in one eye and see well far away in the other. Hope that helps!
