Change fog light bulb om protege 5?

In order to change a fog light bulb, you will need to completely remove the front bumper. Once the bumper is off, you can remove and replace the bulb in the light housing. The whole job took me about 30 minutes...

Is certainly one way to do it, but not the only way. You can also do it just getting underneath with a #13 wrench and a Phillips screwdriver. Step by step can be found here:

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3660

Before you begin, you should disconnect the battery, I didn't but it is a good general policy when dealing with anything electrical.
I found this job easier to do with the car up on a jack and the wheel turned out (before jacking up). You can do on the ground, but you will need short handled tools.

1st, you will need to remove the screws holding the bottom plastic bumper guard. I also removed the bottom two on the wheel well to give me enough room to bend the plastic housing away.

Once out of the way, you can get at the fog light housing retention nut with a #14 crescent or socket wrench.

I am showing you the wire housing clip you will need to remove after you do the next step (just so you know what you're looking at).

After you have removed the nut, washer, and split washer, go to the front of the fog lamp and slide out and tilt to the side (towards center of car) so that you can see a little blue plastic holding clip. It has been advised to take care to make sure that the lamp does not fall out in this process; which sounds like a wise precaution.

Once you have access to the blue nib, pinch down with a pair of needle nosed pliers on the top and bottom and push through.

This will release the wire housing clip. Pinch the top portion and remove.

Now carefully remove lamp from the bumper and place on something that wont scratch the glass.

Remove the two screws on the left and right side of the lamp.

Now I did the next two steps backward from how I think it should be, so do as I say, (the first pic will show the second step already done).

Once you pry the glass carefully out you will see the back of the bulb assembly. First remove the bulb wire from the connector housing.

Then release the spring clip by pusing in and towards the center of the bulb. While you are doing this, you can hold onto the wire going to the bulb to stabilize it, as when you release the clip, the bulb will want to fall to the side (and we don't want any broken bulbs in the lamp).

Do you have to bleed the brakes when you change the pads on a 2000 Mazda Protege?

no, not everytime or every other time. bleeding the brakes eliminates the air in the brake lines. if your pedal goes to the floor, then its a good idea to bleed. it will always help, but not always necessary. caliper has a bleeding screw on it. to bleed have a friend pump the brakes while the bolt is tight. then have him hold, while hes holding you unscrew the bolt until its a weak stream. then repeat when you tighten the bolt. you want no air in the line, which wil cause excess pressure on the brake pedal.

You should always do that - if not know then next time it makes them work so much better.

When replacing pads bleeding is not needed unless you take a fluid line loose. But brake fluid breaks down with time and HEAT, so it's not a bad idea!

How do you replace the third brake light bulb on Mazda 2001 Mazda Protege?

2001 Mazda Protege center high mount stop (third 3rd brake light) light bulb lamp replacement: Purchase the correct replacement center high mount stop (third 3rd brake light) bulb(s) first, before disassembling the vehicle. See sources and related links below for replacement bulb information. Then consult your owner's manual for the center high mount stop (third 3rd brake light) bulb replacement procedure. As simple as it sounds, the owner's manual is the best place to start for bulb replacement instructions and illustrations. If there are multiple bulbs, you may want to consider replacing all at the same time in order to keep brightness and color equal (optional).

Why do PS and alternator belts shred and break on 03 Mazda protege after 8 months?

Usually belts shred due to 1) bad or seized power steering pump or belt tensioner

2) Mis-Aligned pulleys or belt tensioner.

3) gremlins (or maybe nicked the belt during other repairs and it wore badly)

just happened to me and I replaced tensioner as mine had seized. it started making horrible squealing sounds after the repair. I replaced the pump and all was well after that.

Where is the EGR valve on a '91 Aerostar 3.0?

It.s under the plenum (that's the big silver thing) near the back. Don't replace or service it unless you have pinging or have failed emissions on the NOX test.

you only need to replace the EGR if the vacuum diaphragm inside is broken. you can check it with a vacuum gun. another reason to service valve is a bad sensor or carbon build up on the pintle.

How do you replace a brake light driver's side on a 2003 Mazda Protege?

Open the trunk. Pull out the 4 clips that holds the middle trim piece that's between the taillights. Then you can pull out the clips that holds the carpet from behind the drivers side taillight. After you do that then you'll see 3 10mm nuts, remove them being careful that you don't drop them. Its not fun finding them. After the nuts are removed the taillight pops out and you can remove the bulb. It should be a 7440 bulb. After you're done put everything back in the reverse order.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 2000 Mazda Protege?

Now if you have ever changed the headlight or taillight bulb in a car before then you know its actually very easy. In fact its so easy, new headlight bulbs do not even come with directions assuming you have a manual to look from. If you are like me and do not have a manual then you have to apply your previous knowledge of car maintenance and figure it out the hard way. So now that it has been figured out, I will explain in detail what you need to do.

1. You should notice the space you are working in is very cramped especially on the drivers side. The only tools I recommend are large pliers and needle nose pliers. (for reasons I'll explain later)

2. There is a single bulb that is supported by a black rubber dish fitted tightly to the back of the headlight housing. When you peer straight down behind the headlight you will see the rubber dish and 3 wires taped together attaching to a black plastic clip inside it. On the other side of the black plastic clip is a metal retaining clip and the bulb itself.

3. What I have found is easier to do is to pull the rubber dish off first and twist the bulb loose. The bulb has 3 tabs that correspond to a matching hole pattern inside the headlight housing. Twisting the bulb allows the tabs to align with the holes and free the bulb. The metal retaining clip acts like a spring and will try and pull the bulb back into the headlight housing. You have to pull hard while twisting to free the bulb.

4. Once the bulb is free, you need to squeeze the small tabs on the sides of the black plastic clip and pull the clip from the bulb. I eventually had to take needle nose pliers and large gripping pliers and yank the bulb connectors free from the black plastic clip.

5. Repeat this process on the other side.

6. Now that the old bulbs are out, just do everything in reverse. The only thin to really remember is how that retaining clip went in. In my case I just left it out because it proved to be too much of a hassle to rearrange. All it really does is prevent the headlight from popping out which is what the rubber dish does anyway.

7. With everything back in place turn them on and check for misalignment.

Why does a 1999 Mazda Protege Stalling and bad idle?

The likely causes would be 1) plugged EGR valve: The valve gets plugged with carbon deposits over time and needs to be cleaned out. 2) a cracked air intake hose: The cracked hose causes air leakage which throws off the Mass Airflow Sensor, which when sending erroneous information to the computer can cause serious hesitation and stalling at idle.
