Why must Mercury coolant be replace with mercury coolant and not water and antifreeze?

Just match the color at the Auto Parts Store or Walmart and you'll be fine. Some cars use Red and some Green. a 50/50 mix is ok as long as the color is the same.

How do you remove the metal mount from rear view mirror on 2000 Grand Marquis so mirror can be re glued to windshield?

If you can't remove the metal mount, why would you want to remove it to reglue it back on?

Because you might want to place it in a different location, because of height of driver, or in my case , I own a driving school and we have to place another rearview mirror for our instructors. When we sell the cars we must remove the second mirror and the metal(baseplate) . I also would like to know a good way to remove this baseplate

Where is the ac recharge port on a 1995 grand marquis?

Looking at the engine from the front, look on the left side. You should see the evaporator sticking out of the firewall. There is a round tall thing in front of that with a hose that runs to the front of the car. It sticks out of that black tall thing on the hose.

Where is the location of the 6th cylinder in a 1996 mercury grand marquis 4.6 v8?

To answer your question directly, it is the second cylinder back from the front of the car on the driver's side of the engine. That is the #6 cylinder in a rear wheel drive FMC V8 of any type.

So, on all FMC engines, the #1 cylinder is always at the front of the engine (And on the left hand side of the engine in a V configuration).

How do you replace door hinge pins on a 95 grand marquis?

Just used Dorman door hinge pin and bushing repair kit #38438 and it worked very well. You will need floor jack, a friend, proper sized wrench(ratcheting closed wrench worked perfectly), oversized hammer(for weight), punch, some grease, needle nose pliers to help with e-clips

1. I would suggest marking door hinge plates mounted to door with marker on inside edge and top edge for realignment. Make sure to contact part of door and part of hinge to aid realignment. Mark door side hinge halves top and bottom. I found it essential to take off the door (four bolts on door side). This helped me while using punch and kept me away from the door while hammering and grinding.

2. grind top of pins flush with hinge brackets.

3. Use hammer and punch positioned directly over pin after grinding. You will have to hammer hard to get it out and may need to grind some to pass pin out of lower pin hole after punched through upper hole.

4. Take hinge brackets and remove remaining brass shims from hinge pin holes, Use a hammer to tap in new bushings, flat sides toward top and bottom of the brackets.

5. put some grease on the bushings and pin, then install each bracket back in the body side bracket, if too mch clearance, you will have to hammer lower bracket upward to eliminate slack, then insert pins and attach e-clips to hold. It will seem as if there isn't room for the e-clip, but the slot is close to the end.

6. now resecure door to brackets while balanced on floor jack. Get bolts finger tight, then align marks you made on the hinge and door for top then bottom, tighten each one as you align.

7. Close the door. If improperly aligned, Adjust and retighten. Mine was great on first attempt because I took plenty of time to mark before disassembly and align when reassembling.

Good luck.

How do you change the fuse for the cigarette lighter in a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis?

The fuse box is located under the dash, above your left foot when you're sitting in the driver's seat. It's a white square box about 9"x9" and there's a small rectangular black tab you pull to release it. Once you have it open, grab the pair of fuse removers (small red pliers, should be set in there), find the fuse you need to replace, pull it out, put new one in. Viola!! Good luck!!

96 grand marquis Hard starting when cold then runs great?

I haven't got an answer for you but have a similar problem. I'll outline my symptoms, and what I've done so far. Maybe it'll help, or if someone will suggest a line of attack for me, might also help you.

My car is also a 1996 Grand Marquis, with the 4.6L V8 engine.

I don't drive it everyday, so when it sits for a time, 4-5 days, it will be a hard start, whether it's 100 degrees out or 10 below. It fires off, but only runs a second, then stalls out. Sometimes i have to do this 3 or 4 times before it runs properly, and then it's fine all day for many starts. No issues stalling during the day, and runs perfectly otherwise.

I have a fuel injection pressure gauge, and used that to get these pressures, while referring to the Haynes Repair Manual.

With the engine at idle, Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line attached - 30 psi - Haynes manual says 30-45 psi is normal, but 30 is right at the bottom of the range.

Disconnecting the F.P.R. vacuum line - 40 psi - Haynes manual says 40-50 psi is normal.

Engine draws 20" of vacuum at the F.P.R..

Reconnecting the vacuum line, If i hold the rpms up at 2000+ rpm the pressure spikes to 38-40 psi, but settles back on it's own to 30 psi while still running at 2000 rpms.

I shut the engine down, and after 10 minutes, it still held the 30 psi in the fuel system. Also in spec with the Haynes manual.

After relieving the fuel pressure, and then with the Key on, and not starting the engine - it shows 37 psi in the fuel system. Haynes manual shows 35-45 psi is the norm.

So, now am wondering what the best place to start is? My manual said to pinch off the fuel return line, and see how that affected the fuel pressure. For example, if it doesn't affect pressure, then likely the fuel pump is bad. If it spikes up sharply, then it's likely the fuel pressure regulator. I haven't been able to do that yet, (will tomorrow) i need to rig a flexible rubber hose into the return line somewhere. The flexible one, seems to still be rigid enough that i can't pinch it closed.

Given all that, if i rule out the fuel pump and pressure regulator. What else could it be? There's never a puddle of gas where i park, so it can't be leaking out.

Anyone know how to remove door panels on a 96 Grand Marquis?

See detailed instructions here (steps 1-7)...

http://www.autoclinix.com/Mercury/Front%20Speakers2.htm

I have a 95 so it shouldn't be that different. There is one screw at the bottom and two in the handle. The plastic peice where the window button is should pop up and pull out. Unscrew the switches from that peice. There sould be another screw in the door after removing that peice. Take off your lock knob and also remove the cover that protects the opening handle. Lift the panel up and it should come right off.

The 1996 geand marquis door panel ha a hidden screw just beneath the armrest cover. Simply "pop' the cover up and you will find the "hidden' screw. the rest is much the same of removing any door panel. good luck.

96 Grand Marquis digital gas gauge now shows CO instead of gallons of gas left why?

Sometimes the fuel sensor gets to high and it causes and error. It is always a good idea to stop pumping when the pump shuts off. I can now answer my own question above. About 2 months after my digital gas gage on the above car started showing "CO" instead of how much gas was in my tank, I came out to start my car and it would not start. It had ran fine the day before so there was no warning. My starter turn the engine over but it would not fire. I pulled one spark plug with wire still attached and turned the engine over and saw a spark. I thought it must not be getting gas but I knew I had an almost full tank. I had car towed in to a garage. They told me some small animal, probably a squirel, I have a lot of them around, had chewed my wires leading to my gas pump. After they replaced the wires the car started fine. The bonus was that now my gas gauge works again. They said the wires were in the same group of wires they replaced. I dont know for sure if the animal had chew some wires 2 mths earlyier and then came back to finish my car off or what but a least the car now runs and the gas gauge works again like new.

How do you replace the alternator 1998 mercury grand marquis?

First, disconnect the battery, remove the plastic cover on the intake. Use a 1/2 inch ratchet ( there is a small square slot near the belt tension pulley ) which will slack the belt. Just slip it off the alt. There are 2 bolts at the bottom of the alt. and 2 small ones at the top. Remove them and disconnect the wire plugs. Use a small screw driver to release the plugs. Then replace alt. Job takes only 30 minutes to complete.

How do you bleed the cooling system on a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Tha same as any other car. Google, "How to bleed brakes" What I do is to elevate the cars front end so as to make the radiator neck the highest point on the vehicle, then start the car with the rad cap off and allow to idle and continue adding coolant over the next 20-30 minutes. This allows the system to cycle the thermostat and bleeds the air thru the open radiator which is elevated.

Is a bad alternator in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS indicative of more problems down the road?

No. Anything mechanical is subject to failure, and when electronics is added to the mixture, the whole thing becomes a complicated maybe.

Although the cost of a new alternator has you pining right now, the chance of other things just (going out) would be hardly the case. They are having a hard enough time as it is getting new customers, without losing old ones.

How is it possible to graft the front of a recent Grand Marquis on a Crown Vic back or vice versa?

Fort, GM and Chrysler have many vehicle models that share frame parts. Those vehicles start out the same under the outer skin and the only real difference is the fenders, hood and other trim.

Where are spark plugs located on 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Answerwhen standing beside the car look at the top of the engine , follow the black cover down to the bottom side and you will see a silver bar that runs the length of the top of the engine. connected to the underside of that bar you will see orange injectors going into the engine and between each of them you will see a round black apparatus. Connected to those apparatuses ( coils ) are electrical connectors under the coils you will see a short rubber boot. That boot is connected to the top of the spark plug. This system is called coil on plug. It allows the engine to control the firing of the cylinder independently of the others. Your engine will go into a safe mode if you were to run low on coolant and begin to overheat. one half of the cylinders loose spark and the cylinders act as an air pump to remove heat from the engine. This is a standard system on the 2000 and newer 4.6L engine. Its not an option its standard and you can read about the system in the owners manual.

How do you hook up the speakers in a 1996 Grand Marquis?

How do you remove an ashtray from a 2006 mercury marquis?

Pull the ashtry all the way out. There are two clips on the top at the back. Use a thin screwdriver to depress the clip. They will be a dark metal cover. Push them down with the screwdriver and the ashtray will come all the way out. You can see them jump up and lock into place as you pull the ashtray out. They are about 1/8 inch in from the side of the ashtray. You also need to remove the connector from the cigarette lighter. Once you have the ashtray out you will see a space at the top of the connector where you can again use a thin screwdriver to depress the tab that locks the connector in place. After you depress it you can just pull the connector off.

What is the firing order for a 1985 Mercury Marquis?

I am guessing that this vehicle is the Marquis and not the Grand Marquis. I'm also guessing that it's a 6 cylinder engine. If I'm wrong, go to www.autozone.com and look under repair info, specifications, firing order for your specific vehicle. FIRING ORDER 1-4-2-5-3-6
