The difference between water levels at low and high tide-?
Water level is how deep the water is. High and low tide is when the water is washed in and out.
What are some philosophical quotes that focus around the ocean?
There are various philosophical quotes focusing on the ocean, examples of such can be found on the website GoodReads. Notable people include Mahatma Gandhi.
The oldest rocks on the continents would be much older than the rocks on the sea floor because the rocks on the continents are not being removed unlike the rocks on the sea floor that are made by the mid-ocean ridge are being removed by deep ocean trenches. this prossess that is occuring on the sea floor is called sea floor spreading. evidence of this is the Pacific ocean shrinking and the Atlantic ocean growing.
What is the lowest tide called?
That would be the neap tide. It produces the lowest low tide, whereas the highest high tide is called a spring tide.
What tools are used in oceanography?
These are a list of the main tools you will need: Water samplers; bottom samples; messengers; animal/plant samplers; dissecting microscope; telescope; compound microscope; satellite; electron miscroscope; thermometer; oxygen probe; chemical test kit; visibility and color; sounder (lead line); fathometer; surveying equipment; hydrometer set; chemical test (Knudsen); salinometer; pHchemical test kit; pH meter; current meter; dye; drogues; drift bottles and drift cards.
How are temperature salinity and density related?
Salinity and Density are related because they are both measures of the amount
Why is water off the east coast warm?
The water off of the east coast is warm because of the current that washes up from the Gulf of Mexico. from. Flynn Rider
Does fresh water contains salt?
Freshwater would have minimal amounts of salt (sodium ions and chloride ions) as well as other minerals.
Ocean water and salt basins have become very salty by water washing down rivers and streams with small amounts of salt... and then being concentrated by evaporation.
How do you view the ocean floor in Google Earth?
To clearly see the ocean floor in Google Earth first turn off the Water Surface layer from the View menu, which shows animating wave for effect.
Next expand the Ocean layer in the Layer panel in the Sidebar, which includes ocean and maritime related content (e.g. Explore the Ocean, National Geographic, Shipwrecks, etc.).
You also want to check '3D Buildings' layer since there are some 3D models at the bottom of the ocean like the HMS Titanic.
Navigating the ocean floors with mouse controls sometimes gets tricky. The keyboard short-cuts work well for "walking" the ocean floor (see links to key stroke controls in related links below).
How does the moon and sun cause tides?
The moon has gravity just like the earth and this gravity from the moon pulls the sea around as it changes its relative position to us.
A meteroid is a natural object in space. A meteroid can enter the atmosphere and become a meteor. If its remains strike the ground and survive, it is a meteorite.
A maelstrom is a very powerful whirlpool; a large, swirling body of water. The word is a compound of the Nordic words mala (grind) and ström (stream). It originates from a mythological story of huge masses of sea water that are continously sucked into the eye of the magical millstone "Grótti", as a result of it falling into the sea in Grottasöngr. The original Maelstrom is the Moskstraumen, a powerful tidal current in the Lofoten Islands off the Norwegian coast
What filters out scraps drifting down through the ocean water?
If there are a lot of scraps, you can first use sedimentation, which means you leave the water there for a bit until the large scraps have sunken to the bottom of the container. Then you pour the water out into another container, leaving you with cleaner ocean water.
Next, only the small scraps are left. There are 2 options to filter out the scraps -
First, you can use filter paper and a filter funnel, but you probably don't have that.
Second, you can make your own filter, (I think a bottle would be easier instead of a plastic bag, and you don't have to use all those ingredients - you can replace charcoal with cotton, sand, pebbles etc.)
Note: There may still be small solid impurities, and the filter can't take away the soluble impurities which have dissolved in the ocean water (e.g. salt).
How much deeper will the ocean be without sponges?
Sponges displace the ocean's water, and the water that they do "suck up" becomes part of their volume, and thus has no effect on the depth of the oceans.
When you remove sponges, they will no longer displace water in the ocean, so the ocean will actually be shallower.
What can be found disolved in salt water?
The most important compound dissolved in salt waters is sodium chloride.
What is there to do in Ocean World in the Dominican Republic?
The Ocean World in the Dominican Republic has a very large walk through aquarium that people can go into and watch the various fish and sea creatures swimming in their natural habitat. It also has all the usual tourist things such as shop and cafeteria.
When ice melts latent heat is absorbed from the environment sufficient to essentially?
When ice melts, it absorbs latent heat from its surroundings in order to break the bonds holding the water molecules together. This heat energy provides the necessary energy to overcome the intermolecular forces and transition from a solid to a liquid state without a change in temperature.
How do geology and oceanography rely on the other areas of science?
Geology [for example Volcanism] and Oceanography of all sorts rely on information that is acquired from [especially devised, designed and built] sensors of many descriptions - and is useless until it is passed to "Data Transmission Lines [mostly fiber-optic 'cables' nowadays] that have highly electronic and specific both sending and receiving Stations".
