You replaced the thermostat on your 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera It is still overheating Any ideas?

I'm assuming you have the correct thermostat, but you should always double check. Some other things that may or may not be causing the problem could be: Your radiatior is clogged and the antifreeze isn't circulating properly. You may not have enough antifreeze in your radiator. You may not be getting enough airflow through your grille to the radiator. Your electric cooling fans may not be working properly. Your radiator cap isn't maintaining proper pressure. Your ignition timing could be off, but it believe it's computer controlled on your vehicle, so that shouldn't be it. Hope this helps! Good luck, and don't get frusterated, you'll be able to find it.

Can the timing chain on a 92 Olds Cutlass Ciera cause knocking noise at idle that disappears when rpm is increased as with serpentine belt off there is no knocking?

I am now able to answer my own question. Turns out that the timing chain was not the problem causing the loud knocking noise. I found a sharp mechanic and garage that I could trust. He was as puzzled as I was initially. But, it didn't take him long to diagnose the problem as a harmonic balancer. The rubber coupling in the harmonic balancer had deteriorated and created the knocking noise which was loudest when the belt was on with engine idling.

Apparently with the belt on, the load on the crank and balancer (PS pump, alternator, water pump, AC compressor, etc.) was just enough to cause the metal parts of the balancer to vibrate and knock together. With the belt off and the engine running, the noise almost disappeared. It really had us scratching our heads. We had initially both thought that it would probably be an internal engine problem. The engine has 140,000 miles and even though it has been well maintained, I knew it would not be worth rebuilding. So, I was very happy that it was just the harmonic balancer. That only cost me $330 total. That was much cheaper than buying another car which I can't afford. The removal of the part required special tools that they had. Even so, they still had some difficulty. I have some mechanical experience working on various cars and am basically fearless. However,I recommend this type of repair is best left to a skilled mechanic who has the proper tools and has done this before. This is not a good DIY project to learn on.

Where is low pressure valve to put in 134a on a Oldsmobile cutlass gls 1999?

Find the alternator, under the hood on the passenger side. Now look toward the firewall, and about a foot down from the alternator, you'll see two 2 inch pipes going into the firewall, one has a blue dust-cap on it, it's kinda difficult to reach, but if you have skinny arms you'll be able to just reach it and twist off the cap... the cap will have a 1/8'' hole in the top and a large letter L next to the hole. I hope that helps

How to change a low beam on a 94 Olds Cutlass Ciera?

Remove the three T-15 Torx screws holding the corner marker light housing in. This will expose two 10mm hex head caps screws. Remove these and the two others on the inboard side of the housing by putting a socket on a long extension through the second slot in the grille. The housing is then unbolted, but a ridge on the inboard side is trapped behind the grille. I loosen the grille and wiggle the housing from the outside edge toward the outside of the vehicle. Then remove the blue wire clip and the terminal. The angled housing will then come out by turning it clockwise in to release the bayonet connection.

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme 3.1 liter 6-cylinder?

serpentine belt is located to the to the left side of the engine when standing in front of the car. locate the tensioner (it looks like a pulley with a short metal arm attachiing it to the engine. in the center of that pulley you take and wrench that fits that nut(i think a 15mm)then pull the wrench towards you taking tension off the belt, making sure you reroute the belt in the right way, do the same with the tensioner to allow slack to put the new belt on.

Where is the Automatic Transmission Solenoid on a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera?

whether you are referring to a shift solenoid of a torque convertor lockup solenoid, they are both inside the tranny beneath the side cover. They CAN be replaced, but locating the parts might be difficult. The solenoid just has 2 bolts, the shift solenoids screw in like a sensor. The problem is removing the side pan on most trannies is not a feat for the general population. It generally requires removing the tranny. Doing it in the vehicle is quite intensive and you may run into the situation where there is simply not emough room and would require pulling it anyways. Why they dont have an access cover is way byond me, but hell the newest cars dont even have flippin tranny dipsticks!! ARGHH I hate newer cars... If you want to tackle this yourself, besure it is the culprit. Best place to get parts, and gasket for the side pan is probably a tranny shop... Possibly a dealer
