if your vehicle has air conditioning the smell could be caused by build up of bacteria on the heater matrix and in the vents, as this bacteria decays it causes a smell inside the cabin, this can be resolved by purchasing air specialist air con cleaner the is sprayed into the sir vents. the smell can also be caused by the heating of leaking coolant from the heater matrix, this would also combined with the car steaming up, check the coolant level to see if it has dropped. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=S001&UserAction=viewSimpleDiagInfo&Parameters=info answer can also be caused by moisture getting into carpets etc, in the winter months, like snow on your shoes or just water. this will fet into under felt under carpet. a good airing out in a warm garage or a nice sunny day wit all windows and oors open will generally fix this

What is 1996 cutlass ciera starter replacement procedure?
Just replaced one on my moms 1996 v6. First, remove both cables from battery to be safe. Then remove oil filter. The remove oil filter funnel that was underneath the oil filter. Due to priour repairs, there was an ac hose that needed to be moved. I removed the ac compressor off the engine bracket so I could move the hose out of the way. On the front of the starter near the nose cone, you will need to remove the screw holding part of the flywheel guard. Now remove the 2 screws that hold the bottom flywheel guard located underneath the engine near the oil pan. You need to remove both of these covers to get to the rear starter mounting bolt. The front bolt is near the front flywheel cover. Remove wires and mounting bolts and replace starter. I used a rachet wrench on the rear starter bolt. The hardest part of this job was reinstalling the ac compressor in the bracket. Very tight fit.

Behind the fuse pannel in the dash. Remove the 4 9/32" head screws hoding the fuse box to the dash. (you will have to remove the glove box door strap, 1 screw, to get to the bottom screws) The fuse box will pull out a few inches. You will see the signal flasher mounted to the dash right behind and slightly to the left behind the fuse box.

What problems may exist when the check engine light is on in a 1996 Oldsmobiles Ciera?
March 2008
My check engine light came on during this past winter....I knew I had to do some work on the exhaust system. Turned out that I needed new flex pipe after I had that replaced which was only a little over $100 the light went off and hasn't been back on.
Update: May 2009 Check engine light has come back on now...guess my oxygen sensor went bad...car's been acting funny lately, overheating in idle and whatnot. Hoping that a new sensor will fix this issue.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1986 Oldsmobile Ciera?
The '86 Cutlass Ciera had sealed beam headlights. You need a Torx driver to take the decorative frame around the headlights off first, and then a Philips head screw driver to take the bezel around the actual bulb off. Unscrewing the bezel frame allows the bulb to come out. It will still be attached of course to the socket and wires connecting it to the car's battery. Simply unplug this and insert a new sealed beam headlight.
To adjust the headlights, use a Torx driver on either of the two Torx bolts that pitch the headlamp up/down or left/right. These bolts are usually part of a light blue (or potentially gray) small truncated, triangular looking piece of plastic (which break easily). The head of these bolts fits onto notches on the bezel.
Generally the turn signal flasher is located on or near the steering column. I hope this helps you. Mark
AnswerThe turn signal switch is locate on the steering column on the Left side as a lever that your move up and down. The same lever has a tab switch pending make for cruise control and a turn dial for windshield wipers. The Right lever is the gear shift. If the hazard light it's a black nub button on right of the steering column - near the gearshift that requires a push internal a twist & pull up on the outer ring to cut on to cut on is more difficult then cut off only issue. It's is difficult to set and difficult to release - again it is as described figuring out if you push and pull the outer ring around the button at the same time with either a a twisting action clockwise or counter clockwise.
The referral toward the glove box is where when you open it there is a panel to the left for the relay switches and fuses if it's not working it's a matter of unplugging and replacing with a new one. Usually, if not a cycle of needing the light bulb replaced the glove box relays the location if you possible location to replace fuses or unplug fuse box if servicing the battery of the car....
"Note replacing the battery without unplugging the main fuse box may result in shortages of lesser fuses or other electrical wiring damage as most common is the power window switches if the fuse relay box is not disengaged before replacing or servicing batteries in this model".

You always start the farthest from the reservoir, pass. side rear - dr. side rear - pass. side front - dr. side front. On each wheel is a slave cylinder that operates the brakes. On the back side is a zerk fitting, You must find a box end wrench that properly fits the zerk or bleeder valve. You can purchace a self bleeder tool, or use too people to bleed the brake system . Fill the reservoir one person pump the brake petal several times and hold pressure on the petal, while the 2nd person loosens the zerk fitting realeasing the pressure from the slave cylinder on that wheel, then tighten the fitting and repeat until only fluid comes out no air. Fill reservoir and move to the next wheel. Do all four wheels in this fashion, ALWAYS keep the fluid full, if you let the fluid get low it will suck air into the system an you'll have to start all over again.
One thing that you can do but it is extremely difficult is manually open the hood. You have to locate where the hood latch is in the middle of the car and push it out so the hood can be free. I would wear something for your eyes because you might need to grease it up before can even move it. The latch can be reached behind or in front of the radiator so make sure to check with a flash light. Also check if there is anything jammed, you can never be too sure.
Where is the knock sensor on 1993 Oldsmobile cutlass ciera?
First off, what size engine is in this vehicle? Usually they have 3.3L and the knock sensor is located at the rear of the block on the right hand side. It is round with a signal wire going to it. This would be looking up from the bottom of the car (on the hoist). macthemechanicca2001@yahoo.ca
Short answer, no they shouldn't. If you are certain there are NO leaks, and I assume you mean you replaced the pads on the brakes 100 miles ago, then you need to further examine the brake system. Strictly speaking from a fluid mechanics/physics problem a closed system that contains fluid and is under pressure will not spontaneously lose pressure without another outside force, ie leaking or expanding brake tubing or compressible fluid. The second option is HIGHLY unlikely, and the third does not happen. Go through and start from the master cylinder and check for any leaks again sometimes the smallest one can cause a loss of pressure. if it still leaks, then I would say you need to bleed you system, do some minor adjustments and bleed your brakes and this should take care of the problem. hope this helps
There is another way the pedal will go to the floor. (I have had this problem, and there was no leak.) If your master cylinder is messed up, it can let the pedal go to the floor. When you press on the pedal, the master cylinder increases the fluid pressure in the break lines. However, if it is not working properly, it can cause the pedal to go to the floor, by not producing the pressure.
You can also have a problem with the vacuum booster. I am, however, unsure how to test them.
