How do you dry a wet electrical outlet?
While powerwashing, water ran down the cord into the outdoor electrical outlet. Sparks flew, and the fuse "blew" into the off position on the master panel. I tried using a blowdryer, and it worked temporarily, then the fuse blew again. I tried using a fan blowing directly into the outlet also, but that does not appear to help.
Do I need to call an electrician, or will it naturally dry out over time?
What is the difference between vented and non-vented caps?
A vented gas cap vents the gas fumes into the atmosphere. A non-vented cap system routes the fumes thru the engine to be burned.
Life jackets provide positive buoyancy to those wearing them when submersed in water. Check the specifics of the life jacket to ensure that it will provide the expected results for the activity it will be used during. Life jackets vary in size, buoyancy, function, and styles depending on the capacity in which they are being used. Make sure that it fits properly, is correctly worn, and that the life jacket is in good condition.

Most motion detectors work on the principle of the Doppler effect. It's applied to the transmission of an ultrasonic signal and the comparison of the return or echo to what was transmitted. Any difference is caused by Doppler effect. Something was moving toward or away from the transmitter of the detector, and this caused an "apparent" change in the frequency of the echo. And that will set off the alarm. Use the link to the related question (which you will find below) to learn more about the Doppler effect.
Motion detectors used with security systems are passive infra-red (PIR) motion detectors, sensing both motion and heat to detect an intruder. They have a photo-diode that is sensitive to the heat radiation frequencies of the human body, and a special lens that looks at 20 - 30 narrow fields within the protected space. They 'see' the temperature of the background, and any change to this temperature is considered to be a suitable trigger. A person (or animal) moving in the space will move in and out of the fields of view, giving infra-red images to the detector in a 'now you see me, now you don't' pattern.
This generates a series of pulses as the target moves into and out of the fields of view of the PIR lens system. Even if part of your body is at the same temperature as the background, other parts will be at different temperatures, and will probably be detected. (Your head is hottest, your hands are cooler.) Most PIR detectors count the number of times a target appears and disappears from their view, and if it happes (say) 3 times in 5 seconds, they will 'trip' and give an alarm signal. Slow changes are ignored, as are single pulses, which may be environmental changes (air conditioners) or electrical noise (RFI). Because of the way their optical system works, PIR detectors are most sensitive to targets moving ACROSS their field of view. Anything moving directly towards the detector is less likely to be detected, particularly if the rate of movement is low.
To help overcome this problem, and to reduce the likelihood of false alarms from small pets. moving curtains etc, PIRs are increasingly incorporating a second detection system ('Dual Technology detectors') with a microwave based Doppler detector being added to the infra-red detection unit. This system is most sensitive to targets moving TOWARDS the detector, and less sensitive to targets moving slowly across its field of view. By combining the two systems, the detector can be made very difficult to avoid, and by controlling the range and desired target size of the microwave unit, can be made less sensitive to false triggering events.
The answer left out light detectors which grossly replaced the bulky expensive ultrasonic devices. A light sensor is simply a photo diode biased to a point whereby any set disruption of light will trigger an output response
There are many types of motion detection alarms that can be used in and around the home. Most homeowners elect to use a system that integrates the use of infrared technology. These alarm systems emit beams of light. When there is an interruption to the beams, an alarm is activated. In the same respect, there are laser beam motion alarms that are part of many security systems around the nation.
The ultrasonic motion detection alarm is quickly gaining in popularity in home security. This specific type incorporates devices that, if touched, sound an alarm. If you want to ensure that your property is safe, and the safety of those that live in your home, a motion detection alarm can assist you in ensuring security.
that sounds pretty shady.. im pretty sure if someone is taking picutres of your font door tey would first need your promission and second atleast show you documents explaining why there taking pictures of your door.. next time ask for proof
You don't.
You go to school, get a good education, get a good job, and become a productive member of society.
Then, when you're old and grey you can sit your grandchildren down and tell them about the time you could have joined the Latin Kings, but you chose to make something better of yourself instead.
If you throw water on your bonfire is it safe to go to sleep with the fire still smoldering?
NO! .... Specially depends on where you live. I live in Florida where "Burn-Bans" are common. I once had my kids (17 , 18) start then put the fire out for the evening, only they left it smoldering. The next day when i had gotten up the woods behind our house were on fire. So no always make sure the fire is completely out. Try sand it works better.
My home security panel keeps beeping?
It is probably beeping because of a trouble condition. The most common trouble condition is a low battery. Home Security Systems come wih a backup battery, and although they are rechargeable they do require replacing every 5-10 years. it may be notifying you that it has lost telephone line connection, which needs to transmit information to your central station. You need to contact your alarm company, for service
What is more likely to happen - a bus crash or a plane crash?

How can you rekey a gate lock when the gate is locked and you lost the key?
This is generally a job for a locksmith. You can't "cut" the lock on a door or gate to get in and replace it like you can with a padlock or combination lock. It costs a bit of money to have someone come out to your house, but unless you can get the whole mechanism off the gate or door, you'll have to have a pro come out to handle the job. (If you can get to the "back" or "operating" side of the lock and remove it, you can take the whole thing in to a locksmith and get a key made for a lot less than having a technician come out.) Oh, and when you get things squared away, get an extra key or two and have them strategically placed for this kind of emergency. Good luck.

What are some poolside survival tips for cruises?
During the day, especially when the vessel is 'at sea', the pool is THE place to hang out. During the summer months and holidays, expect many families to be poolside with their kids running amuck. If this isn't your thang, you may wish to utilize the pool while the ship is in port or at off-peak times such as when the dining rooms are open. Same goes for the jacuzzis. Also, remember that the pool water on ships is held to a much higher public standard than that of any neighborhood pool you've ever used. Because the United States Public Health department requires all pools to use a much higher chemical level, you may find that colored hair and swimsuits may turn a different shade even with minimal exposure. Oh, and it should go without saying, but don't ingest the pool water. Gross. Outside of the pools, you may have your heart set on bikini-clad women and hunky men to be walking around. Remember the demographic for most cruises are "newly wed" and "nearly dead". You may be a bit surprised that your fellow cruisers are in a completely different demographic than yourself. Use the nightclub to find the single guys and ladies, along with the 'singles activities' planned by the Cruise Staff. Lastly, as the old saying goes, "Wait an hour after eating before you enter the pool." This rings true on cruise ships more than anywhere else. Not only could jumping into the icy pool after hitting up the nearby buffet cause cramping (and drowning), but the ship is at motion, which (as stated below) causes the water in it to be sloshing around. Outside pools are often filled with salt water, in rough seas the water can resonate with the waves and splash out of the pool and onto the deck. If you like whale watching, it is often better on the pool deck than in the sea.
