Difference between a user control and a custom control?

In Windows programming, both user control and custom control refer to a control. Controls are re-usable components that may, but don't necessesarily do, have a graphical user interface. In some development scenarios, controls can be added to the application's graphical user interface using a simple drag-and-drop operation.

The term "user control" refers to a standard control that may be used by the user (the programmer). Perhaps the name would have better been "standard control." User controls include pre-defined components for all the fundamental components of a Windows graphical user interface, such as buttons, sliders, check boxes, radio buttons, lists and drop downs, etc. Non-interactive components such as a simple timer interface are also included.

A custom control is a control that is especially made by the programmer, and is not included with the development toolkit as a pre-defined component.

What is the source of chi gong?

Qigong

Pronounced: Chee- gung Definition Qigong (pronounced "chee-gung," also spelled chi kung) is translated from the Chinese to mean "energy cultivation" or "working with the life energy." Qigong is an ancient Chinese system of postures, exercises, breathing techniques, and meditations. Its techniques are designed to improve and enhance the body's qi. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, qi is the fundamental life energy responsible for health and vitality. Purpose Qigong may be used as a daily routine to increase overall health and well-being, as well as for disease prevention and longevity . It can be used to increase energy and reduce stress. In China, qigong is used in conjunction with other medical therapies for many chronic conditions, including asthma, hay fever, aids, cancer, headaches, hypertension, depression, mental illness, strokes, heart disease, and obesity.

Description Origins Qigong originated before recorded history. Scholars estimate qigong to be 5000-7000 old years. Tracing the exact historical development of qigong is difficult, because it was passed down in secrecy among monks and teachers for many generations. Qigong survived through many years before paper was invented, and it also survived the Cultural Revolutions in China of the 1960s and 1970s, which banned many traditional practices. Qigong has influenced and been influenced by many of the major strands of Chinese philosophy. The Taoist philosophy states that the universe operates within laws of balance and harmony, and that people must live within the rhythms of nature-ideas that pervade qigong. When Buddhism was brought from India to China around the seventh century A.D., yoga techniques and concepts of mental and spiritual awareness were introduced to qigong masters. The Confucian school was concerned with how people should live their daily lives, a concern of qigong as well. The martial arts were highly influenced by qigong, and many of them, such as t'ai chi and kung fu, developed directly from it. Traditional Chinese medicine also shares many of the central concepts of qigong, such as the patterns of energy flow in the body. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points on the body that qigong seeks to stimulate. In China, qigong masters have been renowned physicians and healers. Qigong is often prescribed by Chinese physicians as part of the treatment. Due to the political isolation of China, many Chinese concepts have been shrouded from the Western world. Acupuncture was "discovered" by American doctors in the 1970s, although it had been in use for thousands of years. With an increased exchange of information, more Americans have gained access to the once-secret teachings of qigong. In 1988, the First World Conference for Academic Exchange of Medical Qigong was held in Beijing, China, where many studies were presented to attendees from around the world. In 1990, Berkeley, California, hosted the First International Congress of Qigong. In the past decade, more Americans have begun to discover the beneficial effects of qigong, which motivate an estimated 60 million Chinese to practice it every day. Basic concepts In Chinese thought, qi, or chi, is the fundamental life energy of the universe. It is invisible but present in air, water, food and sunlight. In the body, qi is the unseen vital force that sustains life. We are all born with inherited amounts of qi, and we also get acquired qi from the food we eat and the air we breathe. In qigong, the breath is believed to account for the largest quantity of acquired qi, because the body uses air more than any other substance. The balance of our physical, mental, and emotional levels also affect qi levels in the body. Qi travels through the body along channels called meridians. There are 12 main meridians, corresponding to the 12 principal organs as defined by the traditional Chinese system: the lung, large-intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small- intestine, stomach, heart , urinary bladder, kidney, liver, gall-bladder, pericardium and the "triple warmer," which represents the entire torso region. Each organ has qi associated with it, and each organ interacts with particular emotions on the mental level. Qigong techniques are designed to improve the balance and flow of energy throughout the meridians, and to increase the overall quantity and volume of qi. In qigong philosophy, mind and body are not separated as they often are in Western medicine. In qigong, the mind is present in all parts of the body, and the mind can be used to move qi throughout the body. Yin and yang are also important concepts in qigong. The universe and the body can be described by these two separate but complimentary principles, which are always interacting, opposing, and influencing each other. One goal of qigong is to balance yin and yang within the body. Strong movements or techniques are balanced by soft ones, leftward movements by rightward, internal techniques by external ones, and so on.

Are oxo-biodegradable plastics harmful?

Plastics in general are harmful to the environment because they are here for 500-1000 years, and if left to be in the sun and oxygen, will fragment into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces are then mistaken by wildlife as food, and ultimately humankind eats this wildlife to complete a full, unhealthy circle. With plastic fragmentation being the enemy, OXO-degradable plastics are not eliminating the problem, but rather adding to it by accelerating this process. Also, OXO-degradable plastics add heavy metals and salts into the plastic to make it oxidize, thus leaving behind possibly toxic contaminates. In addition, there is no scientific data showing OXO-degradable plastic to be considered biodegradable (meaning that is is edible like other carbon based material) so it should not be considered biodegradable, but rather only fragmentable or degradable.

Plastics are a wonderful invention that are obviously too convenient and entrenched in our human life-style to discontinue using. What we need is new plastic materials that can work in harmony with the environment rather than be a scourge to the environment. Like truly biodegradable plastics -making plastics earth friendly (like Enso Plastics) because nature, through microbial activity, can take care of the problem for us if we let it.

How does garbage buried in a landfill cause pollution in a water supply?

Garbage (domestic trash, plant waste , food scraps, oils, diapers, etc) essentially forms a disgusting tea bag under the surface of the soil. As water percolates through this mixture the dissolvable materials wash out, oil and toxics are washed out and bacteria are allowed to enter the mass and rot the organics present. The leachate (essentially the "tea" created by this "teabag) contaminates the water in the underground water supply or escapes into surface water. Aside from the water related waste, the site can produce methane gas, a powerful greenhouse gas and fire hazard.

This can be prevented by creating a proper landfill. This would include waterproof covers and bottoms made out of clay, plastic liners and leachate collection systems. A properly designed, utilized and maintained landfill does not pollute.

Who does littering hurt?

It hurts everyone. Its cleanup is costly, taking valuable tax dollars away from other programs.

Littering does not hurt any"body" it hurts wildlife and the environment

Littering hurts everyone. If many people litter, besides the obvious problems associated with cleaning up after them, they also send a message that isn't always perceived in a way that people tend to recognize. The message is that it is okay to litter and not take any individual responsibility for the state of the world we live in. Many people use the negative example of others to justify their own behavior, such as littering. Everybody (plants, humans etc.) is affected (hurt) by littering, because it causes pollution to our enviroment.

A water body with 2.5m depth and 3000 square meters area is considered to be a pond or a lake?

From the wikianswers:

"Scientifically, a pond is any man made body of water where light is found in the entire pond body of water. A lake is any body of water that has a profundal-zone http://www.answers.com/topic/profundal-zone

Hence a water body of depth 2.5 m can at best be called as a pond only.

The nature of construction of the water body is given in the question. If it is a masonry/concrete construction it can be called a as sump/tank/reservoir as well.

Usually ponds and lakes have natural ground as the base.
