Red line is 6500. Half of that is 3250 rpm. Drive in top gear at 3250 and see how fast you are going. Then multiply that speed by 2. That's the theoretical top speed with no wind and flat ground. The Porsche owners manual shows their top speed figures a little lower than redline. My gps shows higher end speeds to be quite accurate. Driving at speeds over 140 mph is a different world from your daily commute. Cars travelling at 60mph will be like parked cars in the road for an 80mph car. Without being race-equipped chances of survival with a mishap.... pretty low.

Not so. This is a urban myth. Contrary to recent Media Porsche ads and YouTube videos, from the beginning of Porsche, AG in 1948, the ignition key was actually positioned to the right of the steering wheel (as opposed to the left on the production 356 coupes, and 900 series and other models) on ALL racing TYP 550/718/RS60-61/ 356 TYP 540s (Speedsters), and 904 GTS', specifically for a faster "LeMans start." The pit mechanics actually left the gear shifter engaged in 1st so the driver only had to turn the key clock-wise, pop the clutch, move his right hand onto the steering wheel, along with his left hand, while turning the car clock-wise out of the starting pit position, and down the front straight. Is this really true? Just ask the still-living Hans Herrmann, or Dan Gurney, or Joe Buzzetta, all whom were racing with the Porsche factory during those Golden years. Vroom, Vroooom! Use 20w50. Recommend Valvoline VR1--it's got a chemical that is good for the old seals. A lot of the "race" oils have the same.

Actually the bolt pattern for the transaxle is not really an issue because the torque tube of the 944 is what you would bolt up to the V8 or V6 your thinking of. The transaxle is in the rear of a Porsche 944 and a long torque tube runs from the rear to the front. This torque tube has a very generic bolt pattern and it is very easy to adapt a plate to it that will mate up to most any V8 or V6 bellhousing. This makes the swap easier that you think. So the transaxle is not a big deal as it will still be bolted to the factory torque tube so this swap would require just one adapter at the very front of that tube.

Actually, that answer is incorrect !

The latches that raise/lower the sunroof must be disengaged before it can go anywhere.

They are controlled by placing the ignition switch into the #1 position and, using the roof control switch, causing the latches to fully retract into the roof body.

The roof is now free to be maneuvered. It can now be removed by releasing the interior locking clips at the windshield and lifting it out from within.

Note that it is quite heavy, and 2 persons are recommended.

OK, I'm haven't used these number for a a little while however the Porsche 944 Turbo was produced with two different HP numbers as follows: Porsche 944 Turbo (85-88)-217 881/2 - 91 -253 During the 1988 model year Porsche produced two 944 Turbo versions, the 'normal version' and a model they called the 'Turbo S'. The Turbo S became the standard model from 1989. 0-100km/h time somewhere between 5-6 seconds.

1985 was a changeover year for the 944. Early cars (sometimes refered to as 1985.1, with three separate round guage pods in the dash) have the DME relay located on the relay board in the driver's footwell, under the dashboard. The DME relay is in position 2 of the relay board, second one from the left.

No. Porsche builds there own engine. You can however put in a GM V8 or V6 get more reliability and better performance. Look up renegade hybrids that is the company that makes the kit.

Loosen the nuts on either side of the adjuster rod, then rotate the adjuster rod to pivot the PS pump. Note that one side of the adjuster rod is a reverse thread so that it spreads or closes the gap instead of just moving one direction of the other.

if you look on the rear of the motor from the top where the clutch cover meets the block look down between the brake master and intake it has two wires on top and looks like part of the clutch cover but its not very hard to unbolt 6mm Allen head bolts

with the ignition on, but not the engine. press the switch that rises it up and the clips come off the back. then you unclip the front ones and push it out

Pull the hood release handle inside the vehicle.

The jacking points for the 944 are under the sill. if you look at the sill closely you will see a diamond shape pointing out where the jack should sit. be sure to use this point as you could buckle the floor or worse, put the jack right through the floor! it's the one point if you want the front or rear wheels jacked up.
