When you Replace radio in SL2 do you have to reset any switches etc - car wont start now?

No, there are no resets after you replace your radio. I would however check to make sure you put all the wires back on - and did not take something important out. Eric

What causes a constant engine knock?

A constant engine knock can be diagnosed as several minor/major issues.

Minor :
low oil
Serpentine belt (chunk missing from it)
Belt tensioner
Stuck lifter
Major:
Main bearing failure
Bent or broken Valve
Piston wrist pin
Distributer out of spec.

If you do not feel comfortable tackling such an issue. It would be a good idea to let an experienced mechanic listen to your engine. Most that call themselves mechanics will be able to pin it just by ear.. Hope this helps you.

High idle on a 1998 Saturn sw-1 with a 1.9l sohc?

Two main causes for this on a SL's SW's or SC's are

1) a leaking PCV hose from the valve cover to the intake

2) a faulty coolant sensor ( yellow and black wires) by upper coolant hose

Other possible causes are a leaking intake gasket or throttle body gasket.

Hope this helps-

What is the oil capacity for a 2001 Saturn Sc?

4 Quarts of 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil including oil filter.

How hard is it to replace the oil pump in a 1995 SL1?

It isn't so much "HARD" as it is time consuming.

The oil pump on the 4 cylinder Saturn engine is integrated into the front housing which is also the timing chain cover.

To remove the timing chain cover it's generally considered to be easier if you remove the engine, then pull the dampener pulley and the valve cover to get to the timing chain cover.

It isn't really a difficult thing to do, but it is time consuming.

How do you install spark plugs and wires on 1997 Saturn sc2?

Refer to a service manual for complete pictures and torque specs. Overtighting the plugs can lead to a damaged engine

Car makes loud knocking sound at high speeds?

A loud knocking noise in the motor of a car at high speeds is most likely the engine. There could be another issue with the transmission if the knocking only happens at high speeds.

What is the emission code P0301 for a 2001 Saturn SL1?

P0301 = miss fire on Cylinder #1

2001 SOHC with a P0301 ---> Bad intake manifold gasket. Spray brake cleaner around the intake manifold gasket during idle. Listen for any changes in the idle. If so, you've found your problem. SOHC in the 3rd gen s-series are notorious for this. rockauto.com has new gaskets for 15 bucks. See saturnspot.com for a how-to

Where can you get a spark plug wiring diagram for 2002 Saturn sl?

On my 1994 it is under the hood on the metal beam that goes over the radiator. The cylinders go 1-4 from left to right as you are looking at the engine from the front....passenger side is left, driver is right. Connection to the coil pack is 4,1,2,3 from left to right. For future reference in any other vehicle you can go to this site: http://autorepair.about.com/od/enginefiringorders1/ Good Luck

What would cause the left turn signal to all of a sudden start blinking at warp speed when used while the right one still works like normal?

It means that it is getting ready to burn out...just replace the bulb and it should stop. Either the front or rear turn light is no longer working. Change it out with a new one

Why does your 1992 stall when it get warmed up but it's not coolant temp sensor?

First, run a diagnostic test. Jumper pins 1 and 2 on the OBD port, then turn on the key (don't start the engine), and watch the check engine light for any problem codes. When working properly, the computer should flash 12 (one flash, pause, two flashes) to indicate that the computer is displaying the trouble codes. The computer should repeat that 3 times, then, if there are any trouble codes stored, the computer should flash the appropriate code for that.

Often a problem with the EGR system can cause an engine to stall after the engine warms up, but other problems can act the same way so don't replace parts until you've run the computer diagnostic and verified the problem.

You might want to pack a parachute. Saturn is a Gaseous planet, without a solid surface. You will sink through to the center of the planet, which may or may not be solid.

When replacing Saturn SL1 alternator does power steering pump need to be removed to get access to bolts?

No you dont need to remove the power steering pump to get at the bolts. if you go directly down from the very bottom of the pully on the power steering pump the bolt holding the top of the alternator should be right there. all you have to do is remove it and the alternator should come out.

Where are the fuses for the power steering on a Saturn ion?

No, the power steering is a mechanical system that operates on hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic pressure is generated by the power steering pump that is attached to the front of the engine and receives it's power from the serpentine belt.

When to use first gear?

well. whenever you have a low idle, you use first gear to accelerate. if u have a higher idle or throttlebody, you can just start in second gear.

How do you change timing chain on 2002 saturn 4-cylinder?

First, since it's a timing CHAIN, you typically don't need to change it until the engine is due for a complete rebuild... but, if you insist:

Remove the serpentine belt, alternator, AC compressor, power steering pump and all peripherals that are along the front of the engine, then remove the dampener pulley. To do that you should plan to at least remove the rocker valve cover, but it would be good if you could remove the pan as well. To remove the pan it would probably be easier to simply remove the engine.

Once you have the front cover of the engine exposed, remove the bolts around the perimeter of the front cover and GENTLY work the front cover off the block. Note that the front cover is also the oil pump housing, so treat it with care.

Once the front cover/oil pump housing is removed, the timing chain is easily accessible. Remove the tensioner rails, taking care with the adjustable rail, since the piston assembly that adjusts the rail has a spring in it; you don't want that to fly across the shop floor, never to be found again.

Turn the engine to #1TDC and note the position of the holes in the camshafts (if you have a dual camshaft engine, align both sprockets with the holes in the head, At that point, the timing chain sprockets, AND CHAIN, can be removed.

Don't allow the camshafts or crankshaft to turn while you're replacing the chain and sprockets.

Replace the tensioner rails with NEW rails when you replace the timing chain.

Remove and replace the front seal in the front engine cover/oil pump housing. Clean all gasket surfaces on the engine, housing cover and valve cover, and replace the covers as they were when you took them apart.

Put everything back where you found it.

... but most likely, if you need to replace the timing chain, it's probably time to rebuild the engine.

How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 Saturn sl2?

Take off passenger tire, then remove firewall splash guard plastic screws and guard. see serpentine routing of belt and begin, also use the belt tensioner to get it on, there is a nut to turn to make it loose, do that when you get there, and also a good idea to replace that also as a new belt will put a lot of stress on the tensioner, that makes for doing the job, once and not twice. My tensioner went out and most mechs. recommend doing that to cut the cost down or energy. Especially if you use the a/c a lot, that is what made my tensioner go out. the fan clutch comes on and off and tensioner is put on more stress again, they just wear out. Good luck!

Has anyone had a 2001 Saturn with an intermittent starting problem though it usually starts up fine after waiting 15 minutes. Any ideas?

My 2000 Saturn does this sometimes and it has to do with the security system. If you hit the lock button with the trunk or a door open, the security system shuts the car down and it won't start for a few minutes. You can either wait or you can pull out the fuse and put it back in. It happened to me twice and now I'm just really careful. Not sure if this is your issue, but .
