Whats wrong with posting an engine size? lol Engine Firing order Distributor rotation #1 plug location
V6 (3.8) 165432 Clockwise Left front
305/350 18436572 Clockwise Left front
400/403 18436572 Counter clockwise Left front
The DECS order no 58 series of 1990 is 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8. It is pretty simple.
This is the procedure for installing the timing belt, and contains the info on where all marks need to be set for proper timing: Install : 1.Install tensioner pulley 2.Pull tensioner pulley to its furthest point and tighten lock bolt. 3.Check that timing mark on timing belt pulley is aligned with timing mark on engine http://msw.kiausa.com/data/manual/sh...G/lc3b620a.gif 4.Check that "I" mark on intake camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate and "E" mark on exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate. http://msw.kiausa.com/data/manual/sh...G/lc3b620b.gif 5.Install timing belt onto timing belt pulley first, then idler pulley, exhaust camshaft pulley, intake camshaft pulley, and tensioner pulley in that order. 6.Check that there is no looseness in belt between idler pulley and exhaust camshaft pulley or between intake and exhaust camshaft pulleys. 7.Loosen tensioner pulley lock bolt and allow tensioner spring to apply tension to timing belt. 8.Tighten tensioner pulley lock bolt to specified torque. Tightening torque:28~38 lb-ft (38~51 N
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, Clockwise rotation. Cylinder Numbers. Pass side 2-4-6-8 Driver side 1-3-5-7
As you fail to mention year and engine size, I will assume it is a 3.8 V6. Firing order for the 3.8 is 1-6-5-4-3-2
Clockwise, 1, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Looking from the front, #1 would be located at the 5:30 position on the distributor cap. Cylinders 1, 3 and 5 are front to back on the drivers side of engine, cylinders 2,4 and 6 are front to back on the passengers side.
1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8
The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE
The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side
The engine cylinder locations are numbered :
firewall
4 - 8
3 - 7
2 - 6
1 - 5
front
2nd to the v mark
The firing order for the 3800 series II is: Starting from front to back drivers side is 1,3,5 and passengers side 2,4,6. Electronic distributer cap will read: Again from from front to back 6, 3...5,2....4,1. Hope this helps. I have the same motor and the same question today I went out and got a Haynes manual 10 min ago. Peace. -B
Information I gained on a 1988 V6 Ford 2.9 is that timing is set at 10 degrees before TDC with the engine warmed up. at idle, and with the sprout wire connecting plug removed so the computer timing advance is inoperative. The sprout wire is located in the loom of the large wire bundle coming from the distributor to the right side of the engine and is yellow in color, with two wires to the plug, either a round or square plug , with the plug simply connecting the two wires together , thus making a convenient disconnect to set the timing. The vehicle engine letter in the VIN is 'T' for this engine and timing setting. The firing order is 142536 with the rear mounted distributor turning clockwise.
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
and the cylinders are 1234-5678 starting on the left front to left rear
and right front to right rear ---------------------------------------------- * WHEN FACING THE ENGINE * Also , the distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE and the marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the rear and slightly towards the drivers side of the engine
Ford 302 Firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
Ford 302 Firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
The firing order for this engine is 1-2-3-4-5-6. The cylinders are 1-3-5 from left to right on the back head, and 2-4-6 from left to right on the front head. The coil pack is 1-4-6-3-2-5 from left to right when viewing from the front of the car.
You should take out the fans to get more room to work with, loosen the alternator to remove the belt covers. After this has been done, the crank pulley needs to be removed to get to the crank shaft markings for the timing. The timing marks for the left and right pulleys are dead center on the top, make sure to mark the positions on the pulleys and the notches. The crank pulley has a marking top dead center, and another marking counterclockwise that you have to match up. How to make that match up without moving the other two pulleys, I haven't a clue because no one else has answered this question. If someone else finds out, please add on to this.
