Why would the brake light stay on on your 1984 Toyota Celica?

The brake light switch is either stuck or out of adjustment. Adjust or replace if necessary. It is located on or near the brake pedal swing arm.

Answer

more likely, your brake fluid is low.

Are you talking about the "brake" light on the dashboard.. or the brake lights on the back of the car?? First, if it's the dashboard light, you need to add brake fluid or possibly change the front brake pads since the fluid runs low when the brake pads run low. Secondly, if you are talking about the rear brake lights, it could be because the little rubber pad that depresses the brakelight switch on the brake pedal when you let your foot off is worn out (has a hole in it) and the plunger on the switch is poking through the pad (which is mounted on the pedal). I fixed this problem once by simply gluing/taping a dime on the pad which made a hard surface for the switch plunger to depress against. Just look under the dash at the brake pedal and you'll see what I mean.

Why does your heater only work when car is moving 00 Toyota Celica?

the heater of your car does not only work when the car is in motion. it only works when the engine is started. you don't have a heater in your car like you do your home. the heat that you feel when you turn on your heater in your car is produced by the engine. and there for if your car is not on then you will not receive any heat. some cars take longer than others to "heat up".

What does Code p1349 for 2001 Toyota Echo?

You really need to take it to the dealer to be properly diagnosed - they might be able to fix this for free, as there is a technical service bulletin related to this error code:

Engine - MIL ON/DTC 1349 Set

ENGINE

EG009-03

May 19, 2003

M.I.L. "ON" DTC P1349 - VVTi ACTUATOR

Models:

'00 - '02 Corolla, Celica, MR2 Spyder, and ECHO

Under certain conditions customers may experience a MIL "ON" condition with DTC P1349 indicating a variable valve timing (VVTi) malfunction. In some cases, the cause of this DTC may be the VVTi actuator.

If your VIN is before JTDDY3#T20056831

It looks like they replaced the camshaft/camshaft timing sprocket.

If that isn't it, then in general P1349 is a misfire or ignition issue under most general OBD-II - but Toyota spec'd OBD-II has it as a VVT malfunction. Unfortunantly - hard to tell which it is. Might be the ignition timing set too advanced (VVT-i issue) or low fuel pressure (bad or clogged injector, bad or low flowing fuel pump/regulator). An emissions test could tell you which one it is. If you want to try a quick fix on your own, I'd start with the basics, change the spark plugs, air filter, and maybe the pcv valve, all these are cheap and easy. Other things could cause the problem though, so if the quick fixes don't work, I'd lean toward the injectors.

Seafoam and other additives are very good solvents that can help clean the injectors - but may not be strong enough to clean off these injectors. Injector cleaning services generally don't work that well - best way is to have these cleaned ultrasonically or replaced (very costly).

Where is the thermostat located on a 1991 Toyota Celica GT?

Yes all cars come with one from the factory. in most cars follow the upper radaitor hose to the motor and where it connect you should see a couple bolts and it should be under that housing . you can also buy a chilton manual for that car that will give you the location of it and instructions on how to change it. Ok, You would EXPECT to follow the top hose from the radiator like on most cars, but with the 1990 Celica, you follow the BOTTOM hose. I followed the top hose and removed the housing to the body that attaches to the engine and realized there is NO thermostat there!!! :o) In fact, the only thing I saw was a cheap, dried out, and NOW broken gasket. When I put it all back together I the broken gasket was not good and I was leaking. I had to get some "permagasket" in a tube an make one my self. So save yourself the time and trouble and follow the bottom hose! Keith Reindl kxr@sbcglobal.net

What would cause your celica gt4 st185 water bottle to bubble up after a journey it has enough coolant in and does not appear to be over heating but water bottle bubbles?

The "Water bottle" is designed to store the water that is boiling. When the water in the radiator gets hot, it boils, which then gets ejected into the bottle to cool, once the engine has cooled, the pressure causes it to be sucked back into the radiator thus restarting the process. Its perfectly normal for all cars, don't be alarmed.

At what mileage do I change my timing belt on a 1999 Toyota Celica?

90,000 miles is the recommended mileage unless the car has been exposed to extreme cold or extreme heat, then 60,000. If you change the timing belt have the water pump done at the same time.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS?

There are two sockets for a 2000 Celica. The top halogen bulb is for the low beam. The bottom halogen bulb is for the high beam. This vehicle uses both bulbs lit together to generate the "high" beams.

Warning... Touching a bulb with your hand drastically shortens the life of the bulb. Halogen bulbs get extremely hot. They can generate second and third degree burns very quickly. Be extremely careful to avoid touching the bulb by accident.

I will walk you through the low beam replacement on the DRIVERS side.

1; Disconnect the electrical plug on the rear of the bulb. Simply pull the wire harness plug straight back.

2; Remove the round rubber protector that surrounds the bulb in its housing.

3; Securing the bulb assembly in its housing is a stainless steel spring clip. To release the clip you must press the end towards the front portion of the vehicle, and then push it up. The clip is captive in place by a Phillip's screw. Once the clip is released the specially designed base along with the bulb will easily be removed.

4; Pull the burned out bulb off of it's base and discard it.

5; Remove the new bulb from it's packaging with either a clean glove or a paper towel. Install it into the special base. Human body oils must not be left on the bulb.

6; Reinstall the base and bulb assembly back into the head light housing. It will only fit correctly one way. Rotate the bulb and base unit until it seats in place. The metal prongs for the wire harness should be side by side NOT one over the other.

7; Re install the stainless steel spring clip. This is a bit difficult do to the fact you have limited space to work. It is the opposite of the removal process. Push the clip forward and then down into it's notch.

8; Re install the rubber boot. It has one tab which is labeled "Top".

9; Re install the wire harness on the metal tabs and test your work.

The PASSENGER side head light assembly is underneath a plastic cover. The cover must be removed before you can service the head light bulbs.

The cover is held in place by plastic rivets. To remove the rivets you must gently push the center swedge pin through each rivet. Caution must be taken to capture the swedge pin of each rivet. After pushing the swedge pin through the rivet can be removed. These rivets must be saved for re installation.

To re install simply replace the plastic cover, line up the cover with the holes. Place the rivet in the hole and then install the center swedging pin.

The High beam bulb is not held in place with a spring clip. It does not have a protective rubber boot either. To remove either the drivers side or the passengers side high beam bulb simply grab the wire harness and twist it counter clockwise. The bulb assembly will remain attached to its wire harness. Remove the burned out bulb. Install the new bulb. Insert bulb assembly into the headlight housing. It will only line up one way. Gently twist the assembly until you feel it settle into place. Then continue to turn it clockwise until you feel it lock in place. Test your work.

Does a 2002 Toyota Celica GT have a governor and if so when does it kick in?

No car today has a governor. RPM is computer controlled. The RPM on the Celica is controlled at the red line spec for the engine. Speed has nothing to do with the computer control--it is the RPM.

What is the difference between a serpentine belt and a timing belt on a 2001 Toyota celica gts?

The serpentine belt is the belt you see that rotates around your alternator and power steering pump and a/c etc. If this belt breaks you will just lose the accessories it runs The timing belt is under a cover at the front of your engine. It is connected to pulleys on the crankshaft and the camshaft and as it rotates it keeps the valves opening and closing at the right time. If this belt breaks, and if the engine you have is called an "interference" engine, the valves will come down and hit the pistons at the wrong time possibly punching holes in the top of the pistons and bending valve stems. serp belt runs alt power sreer and ac timing belt is internal and runs cam in time with crankshaft ( lets car run)

How do you change the oil on a 2000 Toyota Celica?

Google for the nearest "Jiffy Lube". Drive the Toyota over there and for about $19.95, cash, check or credit card and 15 minutes its over and you will not even have to hassle getting rid of 4 or 5 quarts of used motor oil.

Or you can put a quality oil in your car and make sure its done right by doing it yourself... Remember, Places like jiffy lube are always looking to have a high turnover and that means changing your oil as fast as they can. Also they are there to make as much money as possible and will put the cheapest oil they have in your car to make more profit.

An oil change on a 2000 celica is fairly easy... I've been doing mine since I was 16.

1st... the entire underneath of the car is covered in plastic panels. After you raise the front of your car, preferably on small ramps, locate the small center front plastic panel that is in a slightly off rectangular shape... It is about 2 feet long and 1 foot wide give or take. It will be connected with plastic snaps that you can easily pop off with a flat head screw driver. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THESE SNAPS! there may also be two 10mm screws that are holding on the plastic over as well.

2nd... After you've removed the cover, the next few parts are easy. Now revealed is the oil filter, the oil pan and the oil plug. The oil plug is a 14mm bolt and washer and should be the lowest part that you can see coming out of the middle of the bottom of the oil pan. It will be golden in color if it is not dirty.

3rd... Place a bucket underneath the plug and loosen the oil plug about 1/2-1 turns, just enough so you can begin to unscrew it by hand. While unscrewing apply pressure towards the bolt so oil does not leak until you pull it away.

4th... The oil filter must be taken off with a particular tool or socket which you can find pretty cheep at any hardware store. remove the oil filter. this part will be a little messy, just be as careful as possible. let both the oil pan and oil filter socket drain and open the top to not create a vacuum.

5th... once the oil has stopped draining, clean off the plug and replace it. Do not over tighten. then clean the oil filter area with a clean rag and prepare your new oil filter by lubricating the rubber seal with a dab of new oil on your finger. Replace new oil filter. ONLY HAND TIGHTEN THE OIL FILTER.

6th... The car takes about 4 quarts of oil. I use 5w-30 synthetic Place in new oil, close top, start car and inspect for leaks! and you're done! Clean up!

________________________________

The previous answer is a bit of a pain to do, and I truly like the "Jiffylube" answer the best but what I do is a bit of both-buy some good synthetic at say, Walmart and THEN go to Jiffylube and ask for an oil change but have them use YOUR oil-they're also warranteed/insured for the work they do-so if they screw up somehow, you have recourse. If you do it, and screw up, well you can only be mad at yourself.

Where is the cigarette lighter fuse on celica GT-S 2001?

Real easy. The Cigarette lighter fuse is located in the main fuse panel.
The main fuse panel is located inside the Celica on the passenger side, lower left area of the center console.
There is an odd oval shaped panel which you removed by just pulling to the rear.
On the rear of this panel is a guide that will give you the exact location of the lighter fuse as well as all the main interior and lighting control fuses.
