How do you replace the cigarette lighter on a 1996 subaru legacy and where is the fuse located?
The procedure is similar to replacing the stereo. The key is to remove completely the surrounding housings and consoles. Use magnetic screwdrivers, because if they drop, they will fall into the console, and be very difficult to retrieve. All screws are Philips head. You'll need long-shaft and short-shaft screwdrivers.
The best approach is to start at the center console (between the seats and to the rear of the gear shift). Open the center console, and you will find 2 screws. Remove them. Remove the the center console.
Then go to the decorative trim around the gear shift. Most often it is a shiny plastic faux wood piece. Start at the top (toward the radio console.) Gently pry the front side up and work around the edges to spring the snaps out. Gentle flexing will get you there, be patient. At the bottom of the piece (toward the rear of the vehicle) is a tab that slides under the console to the rear. Once free, this piece can be rotated and removed around the gear shift knob, unless you've replaced it with a wide "T" handle. If so, remove the gear shift handle.
The trailing console piece can then also be unsnapped and removed. This allows the center dash console to be removed (at the bottom).
Slide the cup holder out (above stereo) as far as it will slide. It will not slide out of its housing completely. There is a screw on each side. Remove them and slide out the cup holder assembly out of its cavity.
Slide the ashtray out of its housing completely. Underneath the upper housing there are 2 SHORT screws. It is tight, so you will need a short-shaft Philips screwdriver. These are tricky... don't drop the screws.
The center dash console (around the stereo and ashtray / cigarette lighter) can then be removed. It is tricky to pull the console out, because the wires to the cigarette lighter are attached.
The wires are attached by slide-on connectors to the exterior of the cigarette lighter assembly. One connector attaches to the outside and the other to the rear pole. The cigarette lighter power unit is housed inside three metal cylinders that screw together.
Remove the cigarette lighter wires, attach to the new unit (~$7 at a retail auto parts store). Use a tester or a GPS unit to ensure that there is power going to the unit. There is a decorative ring that can be re-used if desired.
After the new unit is attached to the console, reinsert onto the central console housing. It's a little tricky reinserting the console with the wiring attached to the console.
Reattach all the assemblies and consoles in the reverse order described above.

A feed from the battery positive terminal is connected by a R wire to the engine
compartment fusebox, where it passes to fusible link 8 and fusible links 1 and 7
which are connected in series. The feed from fusible link 7 is connected to the
auxiliary circuits relay mounted in the engine compartment fusebox.
The feed from fusible link 8 is connected to the passenger compartment
fusebox on an NW wire and from the fusebox to the ignition switch on an N
wire.
Ignition switch supply
When the ignition switch is in position I or II, the feed from fusible link 8 flows
through the ignition switch) to the passenger compartment fusebox on an LGW
wire. The feed continues through fuse 26 and is connected by an LG wire to
the auxiliary circuits relay. The feed passes through the auxiliary relay coil and
is connected to earth header C0018, via header C0285 LHD/C0288 RHD on a
B wire.
The auxiliary circuits relay is energised which closes the relay contacts. This
allows the feed from fusible link 7 to pass through the relay contacts to the
passenger compartment fusebox on a WG wire. The feed then passes through
fuse 15 and is connected, through header C0286 LHD/C0291 RHD to the cigar
lighter on an LGW wire. The cigar lighter is connected through header C0286
LHD/C0288 RHD to earth header C0018 on a B wire.

The pcv valve is located under the intake manifold, i just did mine and it took me three hours, first remove the air intake from the throttle body than unplug the fuel injectors and unscrewed the two bolts that hold the fuel rail and move it to the left side of the car "it required alot of pulling and wiggling to get the injectors out of the holes and make sure all the Orings seals come with it also use a ligth coat of motor oil on the Orings seal when puttin' back now remove the intake with a 1/4 inch socket"size 10" remember to remove the 4 top bolt out completely and the 3 bottom ones just loose them out and the bottom far right is a bitch to get to, now you are almost there ! jack up the car and make sure you use a jack stand to secure it before you go under it to remove the last bolt that support the intake " for that you need an 18 inches long extention and a size 12 socket and remove the intake out of your way and PVC is right there you will need a 1/4 inch size 10 socket to get the bolts out specially the right one you may have to look at the new one so you have an idea on the position on the right bolt where is it at.

On my Town Ace the fusebox is just to the right of the blower unit under the dashboard (right-hand drive). It is more or less right in the middle of the car widthways, just above the floor. The fusebox cover is unmarked, black, almost rectangular, and about 2" x 6". It clips on, so don't look for screws. A big fat cable loom goes in at one end. It is accessible from inside the car - but it helps if you are a contortionist.
There is a key to the various fuses inside the fusebox cover.
I was amazed how difficult it was to get any information about it. Toyota USA couldn't help, Toyota New Zealand advised me to ask a local dealer. In the end I went to our local garage. Even then, the mechanic took a little while to find it.
