Cars can not run on just water because water boils at 212 degrees, no matter what. When coolant is mixed with water 50%-50%, the boiling point gets higher. Now,for every pound of pressure this mixture is put under, the boiling point will increase 3 or 4 degrees. So a 15 pound radiator cap can mean a possible 50-60 degree added to the boiling point. Now, a defective cap can decrease your boiling point.Thus a bad cap could be your problem

Some of the parts yes. However there is a difference in the 1985 versus the 1986 and newer front body parts. Also the instrument cluster for the 1986 and newer will not work in a 1985 or older. Salavage yards / Auto Recyclers use an interchange tool called the Hollander interchange. The website Car-part.com is where most post their inventory. You can look up a particular part and run a search for it. In the parts are interchangeable and are displayed by model and year. Those results should give you a good frame of reference of which parts are interchangeable for your application.

Assuming you're talking about the AW70 transmission. When changing the ATF, I disconnect the return ATF cooling line from the top of the radiator and clamp on a clear 3/8" I.D. vinyl hose to drain into a 2-quart jug. Start the engine and let 2 qts drain out. Stop the engine. Add 2 qts of new Dexron III by a funnel on the dipstick tube. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. By this time 8 quarts have been replaced. Connect the cooling line to the radiator and you're good to go. ATF capacity of the AW70 is 7.8 qts.

Put the car on jack stands and remove the wheels. Locate the calipers and brake pads and remove the pins and clips from the calipers. Slide out the old brake pads and push the piston back to make room for the new pads and shims. Slide in the new pads and shims and put the pins, clips and cotter pins back in. The front and rear replacement process are very similar, but have different pads and shims.

The book says ATF which is automatic transmision fluid.

Easiest thing to do is lift the motor about 4" with a hoist, removing the entire mount bracket on both motor AND the Rack.

Replace the mount without the brackets mounted, and install the entire assembly as one piece

Not 100% sure about the '87, but there is no PCV valve on the 1986 Volvo 240 2.3L. Flame trap and Oil trap, but no PCV.

Keep the button for the overdrive engaged at all times and the vehicle will decide when it is needed. But if you prefer to determine when to use it yourself then its best to use it when your cruising the interstate. Its basically just a 4th gear that's designed to give you better gas mileage. If your "arrow" light is lit on the dash that means that your overdrive is off. If the light is off...your overdrive is on.

1.) Make sure you have a fresh battery

2.)Adjust the battery connection (-) & (+) sometimes they just need to be moved a bit

2.) Make sure the Starter power and Negative cables are appropriately connected to starter terminal (move them around a bit)
