Volvo 94 850 shuts off after driving 20 mins then restarts without a problem?

I currently have the same problem. The dealer has no idea and nor does an independent shop. They said to have it towed ther after it stalls...but this may be a futile exercise if there are no codes to read!! I have read posts that it could be any of the following: fuel pump, fuel pump relay, crankcase position sensor, idle control valve, spark components.

Where is the speedometer sensor on a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT?

It is inside the electrical plug at the transmission.

You need to remove the battery, battery shelf, complete air cleaner housing and bracket.

Once you unbolt the electrical connection you need to remove the the sockets from inside the connector housing then you can split the sockets. The speed sensor is the socket at the top of the housing (furthest away from the incoming harness)

How do you replace a fuel pump on a Volvo 850?

Open the trunk of the car and take out the whole trunk mat. Under that mat by the back seat on the right hand side you will see 2 metal covers. One with wires coming out from under the cover and the other with wires coming out of the center. Remove the cover of the first one with a 10mm tool by taking the 5 nuts off. Lift, possibly pry gently, the cover off and there will be 2 hoses, each attached to a cap on the top of the fuel pump housing. Pull from the bottom of the cap while pushing slightly down on the top to compress the holding mechanism inside to release it from the metal tube attached to the fuel pump housing. Do not take the hoses off the caps. Then turn the ring of plastic (with the raised 'teeth') COUNTER clock wise and then take out the fuel pump but first make sure to unplug all of the power connectors, if you can. Some do not unplug. Once you get it out it should be pretty self explanatory from there just look over the whole pump and you'll figure out how to change it

How do you open a stuck 1994 Volvo 850 Fuel tank door?

Look inside the trunk and there is a ring that you can pull directly on the wall of the trunk on the inside of where the fuel tank door is located. Our Volvo had electrical problems in cold weather and the fuel cap door sometimes sticks when the vehicle is unlocked.

Under the fan cowling. With the bonnet open it's on the left side. Gray relay clipped to the underside of the fan shroud with the part number 3 545 803 on it.

If the car won't start check the wiring to it too as it corrodes.

Will a Volvo 940 turbo fit a Volvo 850 turbo?

Not easily. The 940 engine is a 4 cylinder rear wheel drive that is oriented front to back. The 850 engine is a transverse 5 cylinder front wheel drive. The transmission/transaxle in the two are very different.

Is there no fuel pump relay for a 1995 Volvo 850?

Hi, Yes, there is a fuel pump relay it is located on the right side (driver side) of the engine compartment. It is in a black plastic box on the fire wall. It has 4 screws that secures the lid. If memory serves me correctly it is the red one. If your fuel pump is not working it is most likely the fuel pump and not the fuel pump relay. You will be told to replace the relay when replacing the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump elay first as told but it didn't do any good. So I replace the pump and it worked. What I would definitely replace is the fuel filte which is under the rear passenger side. You do not need to drop the fuel tank to get to the fuel pump. It is located either in your trunk or under the rear hatch back floor, passenger side. Before replacing the fuel pump mark each hose so you know where they go and notice the direction of the pump before removal as you need to replace it in the same direction. One last thing, make sure you tighten the pump cap completely or it will leak fuel and set off your engine light. I've had problems with mine now going off every time I fill the tank up completely. So I believe there is still a small vapor leak some where. I hope this helps, JQ

NOTE: If replacing the original Volvo 850 fuel pump relay, it might be labeled 'Fuel Pump Controller' and it might be a color other than red (like green) and it may have the number 103 on top. It is the fuel pump relay. They are the same part.

Why does anti theft alarm keep going off on 1997 Volvo 850?

I don't know, as a lot of things can trigger it. If you're at your wit's end, though, you can disconnect the speaker, as I've done. Simply lift the hood and identify the speakers at the very back (if I remember correctly, each looks kind of like a tuba; you can't miss them). Somewhere very close to them is a plug. Unplug it and the alarm will no longer sound. The car will still go into anti-theft mode by blinking lights and refusing to start until you lock the doors; you just won't hear anything.

What causes inability to shift out of park Volvo 850 sedan?

The ability to shift out of Park is controlled by a Shiftlock Release micro-switch. You must have the key turned to acc or run position and step on the brake pedal to actuate the switch releasing the shift lock. Any failure of the electrical circuit to the micro-switch or a failure of the switch itself will prevent shifting from the Park position. It could also be caused by a weak or dead battery.

There is a manual release button just ahead of and to the right of the shift lever. Press and hold the release button and then press the button on the shift lever to move the lever out of the Park position.

Where to find The Accelerometer sensor in Volvo 850?

It is under the plastic cowling where the wiper arms are at.

How to work washer on headlights?

The headlight washers are supposed to spray when the windshield ones do. The headlight wipers should also come on. If there is no spray, it is likely because the little tee valve behind the grill is shot. Replacements are available from the dealer amazingly inexpensively. If the wipers don't work, you have a more expensive problem.

Where is the trunk release fo a 1996 Volvo 850?

The latch is just above the license plate. Reach your hand in there and pull the handle towards you. Of course, all doors have to be unlocked for it to operate. If, by chance, you meant the front hood of the car, there's a red pull-lever near the driver's left foot that, when pulled, releases the hood latch. Then, you need to go to the front of the car and find a grey, hooked piece of plastic sticking just barely out through the grill (above the Volvo logo). Get your finger underneath that and pull towards you. It'll come out about a centimeter and, while you have it pulled out, lift up the hood.

You need to take off the dashboard,to get at the instrument pod. There are two screws hidden under plastic covers,at either end of the dashboard, nearest the door. And a number of screws to be removed under the dashboard,in the footwell area.release the steering wheel adjuster, allowing space to remove the dashboard.Making sure you disconnect the speaker leads at the same time. When you have removed the dashboard, there are two clips holding the pod in place, and two connecting plugs that have to be removed. The bulbs are in the back of the pod,and a twist fit, easy to take out.reverse the procedure to re-assemble.
