How do you check the fault codes in a 2000 Chevy Tracker 4x4?
Plug in an OBD2 code reader. You can borrow, rent or purchase an OBD2 code scanner at most auto parts retailers.
Nah, if you mean that the door's stuck because the childlock is on and the exterior handle doesn't work then there IS a fix!!!!
VW were no help, quoting silly money. Here's how to do it....
Firstly, open the door handle on the side that works and look into the part that is exposed only when the handle is pulled. There should be a small black plastic oblong piece visible situated in the exposed slot. The handle that doesn't work will not have this piece of plastic visible as it's slipped off!!!
Take one plastic coathanger, the cheap kind that comes with t-shirts etc. Unscrew the wire 'u' piece to expose the screw thread at the end. Straighten the piece of wire as much as possible but leave some of it curved at the 'blunt' end.
Next, unlock the car door with the fob ensuring all the door buttons are raised. Pull open the door handle and there, where the piece of plastic should be, place the threaded end of the coathanger metal down through it. you don't have to insert it too far to go to achieve the aim here. What you're trying to do is feel for the piece of metal that this missing plastic piece is attached to on the lock side. Be patient here but it WILL work.
Feel around and any time you feel the threaded end of the coathanger metal against something, put some sidewards pressure on it to increase the force applied and pull. After a time, the small plate attached to the errant plastic 'bullet' will come forwards and the door will spring open.
If I could post pics here I would but feel free to email me on brianrussellsimpson(at)hotmail.com.
Trust me- it works a peach!!
Meant to say that the permanent fix after that is dead simple. Open door, follow the door seal down and just opposite the latch mechanism is a rubber grommet which is attached to the door seal. Prise this out and stick a torx head inside. Hold open handle and unscrew thus a few turns at a tume. Eventually (making sure not to unscrew it tooooo much) the smaller handle trim piece, the less llonger part of the exterior door handle will come off.
Look inside and you'll see the piece of wire with the small plastic 'bullet' on the end. Fish it out and re-attach it to the door handle. I placed a small piece of Blu-tac her to help it seat and retain it there to avoid another episode.
Re-assemble, drive to a VW dealership and pee on their front lawn.
Job done!!
Childlock - turn the black button with your key, this button is located on the actual rear door on the section you cannot see when the door is shut, there is a picture of a child and a lock, easy peasy!
Awesome answer, worked like a charm but it needed a straightened wire coathanger with a 5mm hook bent into the end to catch the wire.

How do you replace third brake light bulb on VW Golf?
to replace the bulbs above the rear number plate you will need a cross head screwdriver and possibly a small flat blade or a pick.
first open the boot until you can see the 2 lenses that contain the bulbs.
use the cross head screwdriver to undo both screws holding the lenses in place then you may need to use the flat screwdriver or pick to remove the lens and reveal the bulb.
hold the bulb and pull towards yourself.
replace with new bulb then offer the lens back into position and carefully screw the screws back in making sure that you do not over tighten them.
all done. less than 5 mins work.
Where is the transmission dipstick located on a 1989 Ford Tempo?
If it has a manual transmission, there is none. If it is an A/T then keep looking around. It does have one. Your owner's manual will list the location. A drive to you local Ford dealer will provide you with the answer if you are unable to find it. Your transmission dipstick is just below and in front of the air filter on the drivers side, just to the right of the engine block, my dip stick has a black handle so it is a little hard to see.

Can you adjust the camber on a VW Golf?
MK4 applications cannot adjust camber, VW did this on purpose (which is really inconvenient), if you have tire wear, you probably should look into the toe adjustment, its fairly common for the toe to become misaligned which would create uneven tire wear, in some cases adjustment of the toe can be more of the culprit in these situations than camber is.... if however you still wish to adjust camber you'll need a camber plate or kit... (side note, you can tweak a few bolts here and there to so slight camber adjustments, but the results are fairly nonexistent)
Answeri know for a fact that the camber cant be adjusted on my 1.4cl as there is no space for the strut to move.it is just a straight bolt through, but as far as i know(im no mechanic)nearly every other golf mk3 will have some kind of adjustment due to the elongated slots.but im told that very few places actually have the laser equipment to do this, and would cost roughly 50-60 quid to do as they need to track and balance again(that's what i was told anayway)hope i have been of some assistance.Purchase the correct camber bolts, or slot the holes in the strut tower. they do not need to be "lasered" to open the slots. A small file or oval grinding wheel works well.

How do you change the timing belt on a 1986 VW Golf?
It's not hard, you have to remove the v belts from a/c and alternator. Then remove the water pump pulley, remove all the little nuts and bolts around the cover, and remove the crankshaft pulley; tis involves removint the Allen head bolts and the main center bolt. That part is tough on the arms.

How do you install a tow bar on a VW Golf Mark 4?
If you purchase a direct fit tow bar, it should be self explanatory as the mounting brackets should line up with the frame/rear bumper supports. Unfortunatel y with a mk4, there is a large overhang on the rear bumper, and it isn't really well suited for a towbar, so there might not be many options our there.
As engine bearings wear, the clearance between the crankshaft and the babbit surface becomes large enough for oil to leak out faster than the oil pump can pressurize it, especially when the oil pump is turning slowly, such as at an idle. If the condition isn't too severe, you can solve the problem by changing to a slightly heavier grade motor oil. If you've been using 5W15 oil, change to 10W30 and see how it works for you. You might find that you didn't really need all the rest of it. It really is quite common, especially since auto manufacturers have been trying to get engines to use the lighter grade oils to reduce fuel consumption. A 5W15 can make the engine turn quite a bit easier, but sometimes it doesn't provide the hydraulic suspension needed as the engine wears, but the auto manufacturers would rather you buy a new vehicle every few years anyway so they don't bother to tell you to use a heavier grade oil when the engine starts to wear. I'm relatively confident that this will solve your problem. If 10W30 doesn't take care of it, try a 15W40. Just pick oil with slightly heavier numbers until the oil pressure gauge looks right. Good luck.
