THERES TWO 1 BY BATTERY ONLY HOLDS MAIN FUSES 2 INSIDE DOWN BY DRIVERS KNEE BETWEEN STEERING COLUMN & DOOR POST UNDER PLASTIC FLAP COVER its very hard to see fuse number moulded in to fuse block but diaghram is printed on inside of cover cheers for now

Built in turbo? That would be your answer. You have the TDI engine, huh? Great engine. Is this your first new diesel? If it's a turbo diesel, you probably have a leak in the boost.

The relay panel is located under the dash board, above the drivers feet, remove the lower cover panel to access relay box.

With a DP1600 engine 19-21 mpg on a 009 distributor, with an SVDA distributor 25-27 mpg. Assuming correct carburetor, and good state of tune.

I would guess that your clutch or transmission are bad. Hope that is just the clutch.

Take out the idle jet on the side of the carby and give it a good blow out. If this fails clean out carby. Another quick fix that sometimes works, take off aircleaner rev motor hard and put your hand over the top of carby. Your hand will be sucked down and this will usually dislodge any blockage in carby. Remove your hand before motor stalls!

Knoking is the combustion of the fuel mixture before the actual ignition took place. This self-combustion is most commonly caused by high revving of the engine: the mixture becomes so hot due to rapid compression it ignites without a spark.

Diesel engines don't compress a air-fuel mixture, but only compress air. The fuel is injected when the piston is at top position (approximately), and ignites at that very moment; the compressed air is hot enough to cause ignition.

The timing of ignition in a diesel engine is therefore correct, also if you compress the air much more than with a petrol engine. This is in fact what is done, (compression ratio diesel is much higher than petrol, this fact makes this possible). This higher compression ratio gives a higher efficiency; as you'll probably know diesels are more fuel efficient.

The VW ADE 1.9 td industrial engine will fit in a 82 diesel vanagon w/ no modifications to the bus, fabrication will need to be done to the air filter, exhaust, oil pickup tube. The transmission will need to be regeared or changed to a gasoline transmission or diesel 5 speed.Hope this helps.

open the drivers door and it is on the side of the dash near the door jam., there are also 3 fuses on top of the battery cover.

Carefully (or not), remove the interior panel below the glass and pull up on the relay rod (sort of looks like an RC car tie-rod) that's oriented vertically. You may have to manipulate the latch directly.

The cycle switch not engaging the Compressors clutch

On earlier models with the T handle, turn the handle to the left until it stops. Lift hood... On later models with the push button... push the button. Lift hood. Unless you are talking about the hood on the front, which is actually the trunk. On earlier models, there is a release under the dash you pull. On later models, the release is in the glove box.

IF you are in fact talking about the "boot" on an older VW -- which is the trunk in the front -- there is a fun bit of trouble that lots of VW owners know about. Here it is: even though you're supposed to be able to lift the release in the glove box and then go 'round and push the boot button, that's not often the way it works in real life. In real life, you'll spend around 20 minutes running around your car trying to get this to work; it's much easier to have someone you trust lift the glove box release, then you push the boot button and lift the lid. It takes two, but it works.
