The first thing i would do is buy an application called Tech Tool Pro. You can find it @ micromate.com This is currently not Leopard compatible. But if your running 10.4 and up then you will be fine. This is a fantastic app and well worth the money. It will test all aspects of your mac. But, if your problem is based on your hard drive performance. Than I suggest Disk Warrior. And you can find it at http://www.alsoft.com. Both of these apps are well worth the money and will keep your Mac running in tip-top shape.

No you can not use your laptop to control your PS3. If you plugged your PS3 into the Laptop you could have two or three choices of connections. HDMI which is designed for the PS3 to show a video and audio signal on your TV or HDTV and though unlikely depending on the laptop you could possibly get a picture like from a TV, but you could not use the laptop to influence the game play as it would only be an audio video monitor. The ethernet connection in the PS3 is designed to allow the PS3 to have an internet connection and not to enable a secondary control system to operate the PS3 and would not serve the purpose you asked about. The USB ports will allow the transfer of data from and to the PS3 harddrive on a number of different devices and can be used to upload and download songs, photos Videos etc, but it also will not allow you to play the PS3 from your laptop.
