There are 3 positive diodes and 3 negative diodes. The alternator produces AC voltage in 3 phase. Almost all car manufacturers import and domestic use 6 diodes. Diodes can be defective as either "open" or "shorted". An open diode reduces capacity of an alternator while a shorted diode causes almost no charging.

IF my memory serves me rightturn the crank to top dead centre (tdc) remover the distributor cap and the rotor arm should be pointing to number one plug lead if it goes to number 6 then its 180 degrees out

I know that the 5.4L Triton V8 is very reliable because I had a 1999 Ford F-150 with the 5.4L and it never failed on me. I don't know about the 6.0L 'Vortec' V8 but I have heard that it is a decent and reliable engine. But if you are buying NEW I would go with the new 6.2L V8 from Ford. It produces great power and AT LEAST 20 mpg highway under conservative driving.

The engine block coolant plug on a 6-cylinder is near the bottom of the engine. You will need to use a socket set and ratchet to remove the plug.

That would be a Rochester 2-barrel are a 4-barrel Quadrajet. You did not say what size. This would not be what they call a FEEDBACK carburetor

It is a solenoid that engages the front axle. The driver side axle is always engaged, the actuator engages the passenger side axle through a fork locking in the front axle. When you engage 4x4 in the truck, a switch on the transfer case allows power to the actuator. The newer actuators are all electric, the older models are gas over electric, and could act slowly. if at all. GM does make a conversion kit to mount the newer style actuator on older trucks. Well seeing as that it is an all electric vehicle the is no "mpg" rating for it. The 1.4L 4cyl engine only runs an alternator to recharge the batteries. But if you were to put a conventional mpg rating on the electric motor it would be around 93 mpg equivalent

My sources show there are different part numbers for spindles on the 1967-70 (drum brakes), 1971-72 (disc brakes) and 1973-87 (disc brakes).

Many GM vehicles have a glove box sticker showing the RPO (Retail Purchase Option) codes that can be used to decode most of the factory options that were installed on the car at build time. For example, if your RPO sticker shows an option of K05, there was an engine block heater installed at the factory. U11 would indicate that there was a Police Packace instrument cluster and certified speedometer. You can search the web for 'RPO Codes" to find more info for your specific vehicle.

I just figured it out. There is a "L" shaped lever on the right top of the headlight (passenger side turn signal) (reverse left and right if you are on the driver's side)

1. turn L shaped lever counter clockwise 1/4 turn and then pull it up; releasing the right side of head light.

2. there is a 10mm bolt on the left top of the headlight that needs loosened or taken out.

3. swing out head light starting with the right side carefully.

4. signal is just below the headlight opening. 1/4 turn and it pops out. replace it with a 3157na that is orange in color.

5. reverse process to put it all back together.

Remove the distributor cap and you will see it under the rotor towards the right rear. It is an electrical device and will have wires pluged into it.
