As with any demographic poll of religion, and especially Atheism, there might be slight inaccuracies. Sometimes, "non-affiliated" or "Agnostic" will be considered "Atheist". And, many times, atheists are afraid to identify themselves. That being said; according to Wikipedia sources and a 2002 survey by Adherents.com, estimated the proportion of the worlds people who indentify as "secular, non-religious, agnostic or atheist", at around 14%. Other polls, both official and unofficial, place the number at about 0% (Nigeria) to 39% (UK) and some as high worldwide as 52% - 72% in the west.

If the question is "Who is the leader of atheists?" there is no leader. Each atheist is his own person. Atheists may meet for discussion, attend meetings by atheists who wish to talk about their point of view, but there is no leader.

If the question is "Who was the first atheist?", the answer is unknown. Atheism was the standard until religion was invented.

Well, if someone would say "kaifa haluk" as in formal arabic, (kif halek is a lebanese and probably also syrian Arabic pronunciation), I would answer, "bi khair, shukran lak بخير، شكرا لك", which means, "fine, thank you", or informal in many arabic dialects "kullu Tamam كلو تمام" which means "everything is fine", and I may add (winta kifak (in case of answering a male, i.e. 2nd person masculine), or winti kifik (in case of 2nd person feminine) which means "and how are you?".

Based on Acts chapter 5, this would be Simon Peter. Another point of view would be that God took the lives of Ananias and Saphira, and that Peter was only an accessory. Either way he was not innocent, and the only defence we can offer is that the events of chapter 5 did not really happen.

In a way it ignores the big issue of atheism.

The real issue is, how many atheists experience life past death at any age.

Atheists cheerfully say 'None'. Though is is hard to prove.

Atheists live, of course, for a very similar timespan to other people, thus the proprtion who live to such an age shall be similar to people of other beliefs.

I suspect, having said this, that there would be some correlation between atheism and longevity, as atheists tend to some from richer, better educated backgrounds, and thus are more likely to live healthy lifestyles wqith better healthcare. However, this effect is probably not huge. I would be interested to see a study into the matter. == I, too, would be fascinated by a study. All the studies I have seen indicate that the more educated a person is, the more likely they are to be atheist. Since the wealthier sections of society tend to be more educated (because education costs money), it is reasonable to infer that atheists are likely to live longer. This would not be because they are atheist, but would have the same root cause as their education: they are more likely to have come from a wealthy background, and have a higher standard of living, and better access to healthcare.

Krishnamurti was neither an athiest or a believer. Both positions suggest an attachment to mental positions. Krishnamurti felt that words cannot capture reality, they can only point, so both terms did not apply to him.

In US politics, it is unlikely that politicians are likely to admit to being atheist. However, some calculations can be made:

No. He was not. Two works of note that address Hemingway's catholicism seem to suggest that he took his Roman Catholic faith more seriously than modern critics and biographers suggest. The authors are H.R. Stoneback and Matthew Nickel. A quick google of their name and Hemingway will give you a jumping point for any research. They both provide clear evidence that refutes the "conversion of convenience" theory that he converted just for the sake of this marriage. That said, no one would suggest, not even Hemingway, that he was a good example of a good catholic. As a devout catholic myself, I would hardly consider myself a good example either, but this does not diminish my faith or my identity as a catholic. In addition to the authors noted above, there are numerous articles online discussing Hemingway's faith that are worth reading.

In terms of percentages, the most Atheist country is Sweden. China may have more atheists but they only have about fourteen percent of their people. It is hard to tell though because in communist countries the government tries to suppress Atheism. http://www.adherents.com/largecom/com_atheist.html
