Buick Skylark

I know that the 93 3.3 V6 Skylark I have was stalling and hesitating, After replacing alot of other parts it ended up being the Idle air control valve. It's just two bolts and any decent autoparts store stocks them. You could even just clean the old valve and bowl assembly up with some spray carb cleaner. Remember to clean the bowl out before you put the new one in or it will stick too. The carbon really builds up on them and causes them to stick. (bad design)

First off i don't know if a 93 is like a 92 that is what i have. I took off the steering pump, and alternator and cole housing youll see them all on top. i didnt disconnect any i just shoved them out of my way. now you find the tension pulley and lift up on it till the serpentine belt loosens remove it. or atleast get it out of your way. now there is four bolts on the water pump pulley remove them and let it dangle you cant take it off no room be sure you have it on new one or you wont be putting it on. With that off you should be able to weasle all the bolts out and remove water pump. hope this is good advice if not just delete it thank you

On my 96 3.1 liter (3100) the map sensor is located in the middle of the engine towaed the back,in front of the spark plug wires.(Can be seen very easily)It's flat & is about 1-1/2 inches wide & about 2-1/2 inches long.Hope this helps.

First you have to remove the steering wheel, that's why I would leave it to a pro.

There's a Haynes manual (#38025 (1420) that has the complete instructions for removing the steering wheel and ignition switch. Try Amazon or Ebay to find one. They're dirt cheap now.

You'll need a special tool designed to wedge in there and loosen the belt tensioner. I'm not sure what it's called. A GM service center should know.

It's not easy to loosen either. I'd just as soon have a pro do it. I even have spark plugs jammed in there that have to be replaced by a pro. Who designs these things???

disconnect the battery source first, disconnect the wiring on the alternator, then loosen the bolts on the mounts to loosen the belt. then loosen and remove the bolts. remove the alternator, and replace with new one.

It is possible that the fuel line in the 1997 Buick Skylark is bad. Getting a tune-up or changing the fuel filter may resolve this problem.

I wouldn't give it more than 4 or 5 months, tops.

The Buick Special, Skylark, and GS fenders are interchangeable. There are some trim differences, so some holes may have to be filled or drilled if original trim is used.

There's a hose that goes to it on the top, driver's side of the engine. It's near the air filter.

Most American made cars do have a relay on the air conditioner. The relay is usually located underneath the hood. It could be on the fire wall, inner fender or some place on the motor. European and Asian cars also have A/C relays. You can find them on the electrical schematic diagrams. For example, VW diesels of the mid-1980's have one on the radiator, and one in the relay panel under the dash on the left had side. Nissan Maxima's of the mid 1990's have two also, one in the relay box under the hood, and another in the row of four relays to the right of the fuse panel on the left hand side of the dash.

You might check with an auto store or a GM dealer's service dept. to find out for certain but mine is a 1995 Skylark with a 3.1 V6 and it uses a timing chain.

You probably need coolant NOW. Don't run the car with a hot engine. Change that thermostat while you're at it. Take it to Midas or any other place that changes coolant professionally.

Code 26 QDM fault means there is a shorted condition in the circuit connected to the QDM. You will have to trace the short to get it fixed.

Well, it's a transverse-mounted engine in a reasonably crowded engine bay, so expect some difficulty. You'd have to get the old one out completely(drain coolant first), check the hole for any damages, apply a good quality gasket sealant and then tap/hit the new one in place without it capsizing. Put a short piece of wood across it and hit it moderately hard with a hammer, shift the position of the wooden crossmember, hit it again. Repeat until the new plug is seated. refill coolant, check for leaks.

The fuel filter is located near the rear of the vehicle, forward of the fuel tank.

its a round cylinder ( on under belly ) about a foot or two back from the middle front of your car.

It should be the same throughout the Buick line, but in this answer, I will refer to the Skylarks. The rear seat is pushed in at the base and lifted upwards. After it is removed, 2 bolts will be exposed that hold the upper portion in place. I believe it takes a 7/16 socket. Once those are removed, the seats lifts up and out of place

how do you replace the alternator in a 97buick skylark

According to the chilton manual the 5 water pump bolts torque to 89 inch pounds. The four bolts that hold the water pump pulley torque to 18 foot pounds.

I believe there is a slightly finned top on this motor (quad 4). remove the bolts on this and it should remove the finned plate, giving access to the spark plugs underneath.
