How do you replace a twilight sentinel on a 1997 Cadillac?
The flat top of the brown sensor can be removed. Then you can remove the photocell with blue lense like a small light bulb. If you have another complete brown sensor cut from another harness, use a small screw driver to remove terminals from brown plastic on both harness in dash, note which sides are the black and white wire (don't cut or damage terminals on your harness) and replacement (cut from junkyard) sensor. Put cut wires with terminals to side (not needed for this project). Take the "new" sensor and fit over terminals in your dashboard. This method will work for 92-2000 Cadillacs using parts from other Cadillacs with similar component usage.

First you have to evacuate and recover all contents in a/c system using EPA approved recovery system(s).[Please note however that if you are replacing the compressor you also need replace the accumulator, the reason being that the desicant bag in the accumulator is more than likely over saturated with freon]. Raise and support vehicle on jack stands.Disconnect negative battery cable and release tension on serpentine belt.Unplug electrical connector to compressor ,remove a/c lines from compressor;also disconnect lines and connectors from the accumulator.Remove compressor mounting bolts, while noting the locations of all bolts and/or brackets.Installation is the reverse of removal.Be sure before installing new unit to pour about half of the new pag oil into compressor and hand compressor clutch(not the pulley)about 10 full turns. After installing comp and accumulator evacuate(vacuum)system to remove any air or dust particles that may have gotten into system during installation[vacuum at least 30 min].Recharge system with specified amount of refrigerant and remaining pag oil.TWO NOTES OF CAUTION NEVER OPEN THE HIGH SIDE(SMALL HOSE)OF A/C SYSTEM BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY HIGH PRESSURE!!!ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE NEW O-RINGS WHERE APPLICABLE AND NEVER REMOVE A/C COMPONENTS FROM PACKAGING UNTIL YOUARE READY TO INSTALL BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF DIRT AND AIR CONTAMINATION!! Resistance: Electrical resistance describes how an electrical conductor (a wire) opposes the flow of an electrical current (flow of electrons). To overcome this opposition a voltage (a energy) must dropped (used) across the conductor (wire). Resistance can be described by ohms law: Ohms Law: R = V / I (Resistance = Voltage / Current) (resistance measured in ohms) where: Voltage [V]= the energy lost across an component (voltage measured in volts). Current [I] = the charge (electrons) flowing through an component (current measured in Amps). Electrical resistance can be thought of as sticking your hand out a car window. The faster [current] you drive the harder the wind presses [resistance] against you hand and therefore it takes more energy [voltage] to hold your steady. When trying to overcome electrical resistance, the electrical energy lost is turned into heat. This is how the elements of a household stove, toaster, and fan heater work. Because of the vacuum in a light bulb, the electrical energy lost is instead turned into light. It can be seen the electrical resistance plays a large role in modern life. Resistor: The resistor is the most common electronic component and is used to limit and/or control the voltage and current in an electronic circuit. Resistors are carefully manufactured to provide a predetermined value of electrical resistance which may range from 0.1 ohms to 100,000,000 ohms, depending on the application. The physical size of a resistor also varies dependant on the amount of power passing through the resistor, given by: P = V x I (Power = Voltage x Current) (power measured in watts) There are also many types of resistors including: · Variable Resistor - changes resistance when its shaft is rotated (volume knob on a stereo). · Thermistor - changes resistance when the temperature changes (used in a thermostat). · Light Dependant Resistor (LDR) - changes resistance when the lighting changes (used in children's night-lights). Resistor Example: An LED is a small red light (such as the one on the front of most TVs) and requires 2.0 volts and 0.02 amps to operate correctly. If we connected that LED up directly to a 12 volt battery, the voltage would be too high, and too much current would flow… the LED would blow up. We need to use a resistor to limit the voltage and current. But which value of resistance should the have resistor? Uses ohms law: R = V / I = (12.0 - 2.0) / 0.02 = 500 ohms (Note: the voltage across the resistor is the battery voltage minus the voltage we want across the LED) But which value of power should the resistor be capable of handling? P = V x I = (12.0 - 2.0) / 0.02 = 0.2 Watts hope this helps

How do you install an egr valve on a 1997 cadillac deville?
I have a 95 Eldorado and recently had an EGR valve problem. After removing the plastic "Northstar" cover, you will be able to see the intake manifold, fuel rail, and alloof the injectors. the EGR valve is located right next to the fuel rail, before any of the injectors. If your car is 1995 or newer the fuel rail has a metal flange that is placed over one of the bolts holding the valve in plae. If you are doing this yourself it is important to remember to remove the injectors from the manifold, and not the fuel rail, otherwise you may run into problems.
After removing the fuel rail just enough to get the flange off from the top of the EGR valve bolt, unplug, and unbolt the valve. Remember that there is a special gasket for this part, and to make sure not to break or lose it.
After the valve is removed you will see 2 holes in the bottom of it. one open, and one with a screw looking pin in it, that is spring loaded. Carefully take a screwdriver, and compress the pin. If it sticks, theres your problem, and that "Check Engine" light is caused by that. Alhough its not entirely recommended, i used carburater, and fuel enjector cleaned in the valve to free up the pin. An important thing to remember is that if you do this DO NOT hold the vlave upside down. These cleaners are corrosive, and will ruin the sensors in the vlave. Lay it sideways to clean.
After doing this, try the responsiveness of the vlave with a screwdriver again. If it functions proberly, you can reinstall it. If not, you must by a new part.
I cleaned my EGR valve last weekend, and its worked great so far. Not to mention i saved about 450 dollars by reusing the part, and doing it myself. Another win for do it yourselfers!

You have brake problems on a cadillac deville and i think its the master cylinder?
ok in this situation theres one of three things that could be the prob, first the master cylinder, if the pedal travels all the way to the floor with no resistance that's the problem. 2nd air in the lines, you would have to bleed your breaks, best to take it to professionals. and 3rd you have a broken wheel cylinder, these are located in the rear drums. they break due to excessive wear on the back breaks causing the little piston to come out releasing all the break line pressure. one bad line like that will screw up ur whole system.

Where is the Bose amp on a 1989 Cadillac Coupe DeVille?
I own the 1989Cadillac 4dr Sedan Deville with Bose premium sound. Each speaker has its own individual amp that is attached to the speaker. The amps in my car went bad causing only one of my speakers to work. If you are having issues with the amp from my experience it is better to run new speakers, stereo, and wires (but be warned it is no easy task to remove the old door speakers!).
