Car Shaking Problems

Car shaking problems are usually the results of mechanical problems. Out of adjustment tires or suspension will make the car shake after reaching a certain speed. Warped brake rotors will also make the car shake when it’s slowing down.

What would cause a car to jump when taking off?

Sometimes, the car thinks the runway is too short and jumps so it won't crash at the end.

Also, consider checking engine mounts, transmission mounts, cradle mounts (if FWD) and CV joints and U-joints. Engine mounts and cradle mounts would be the most common causes that I've seen.

If the car is FWD, consider lightly powerbraking in Drive with the hood open and look for excessive movement suggesting a torn or weak motor mount.

If this is a Taurus or Sable, be very gentle so as not to rip the radiator or upper radiator hose. Check the mount descriped in the next paragraph for being ripped, or having a loose mounting nut. Also pay close attention to the front two cradle mounts. These very commonly rot away and cause a lurch. If it is a Taurus or Sable, replace the radiator and upper hose after repairing the lurch to prevent overheating later on. They are both already damaged.

If this is a Cadillac with a 4.5L or 4.9L engine, expect it to be the motor mount at the right front of the subframe (left front of the engine) or a CV joint of the right axle shaft.

Other less likely suspects are damaged:

strut rod or radias arm bushings, especially on Ford vehicles

ball joints

strut towers (cracked)

upper control arms (rotted or cracked) if a GM S/T truck, expect a brake pull

upper link on Mazda Millenia front suspension

strut mounts or strut bearing plates

Why does Ford Mondeo 1995 shake in low speed low rpm?

A Ford Mondeo shakes at a low speed most likely due to warped rotors. When rotors are unevenly worn the surface area will not remain balanced. This then results in a shaky ride.

Why is it unwise to suddenly apply the brakes of a car on a wet or icy pavement?

Suddenly applying the brakes on a wet or icy road could cause the wheels to lock. With the wheels locked up it takes longer to stop. Also, locked wheels could lead to a loss of control of the vehicle.

Can faulty worn CV axel cause a shaking or vibrations in the front end?

A worn CV joint will often cause a distintive clicking sound when turning at low speed.

Vibrations in the front end are more often caused by worn steering and suspension parts, out-of-balance wheels, and faulty tires.

What are the risks when driving a car with a shaky steering wheel?

A shaking steering wheel means something is wrong. Can be a tire out of balance, bent wheel, or suspension problem. Whatever it is, the shaking it putting stress on other parts and can cause other things to wear out. It is especially hard on wheel bearings. have this diagnosed and repaired asap.

Where is the fuel filter location on 1991 mercury grand marquis?

according to Autozone, under the driver's side, in front of the rear weelwell, mounted on the chassis in the fuel line.

Why does my 1986 ford f-150 lose power during acceleration?

check the fuel filter IT COULD BE TIME FOR AN ENGIN OVERHAUL, BUT IF YOU WANT TO PUT THAT OFF FOR A WHILE UP GRADE YOUR GAS TO A CLEANER, AND HIGHER OCTANE. IT WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WILL HELP YOUR ENGIN IN THE LONG RUN. ALSO USE FUEL ADDITIVES, MORE OFTEN THAN WHAT THE BOTTLE CALLS FOR. NOT EVERYTIME BUT EVERY TWO OR THREE FILL UPS. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR TRANY IS NOT SLIPPING. IT MIGHT BE TIME TO HAVE THAT LOOKED AT AS WELL.

Shaking steering wheel and engine light on?

The shaking wheel part suggest that there might be an engine misfire, the engine light on suggests that the computer is trying to tell you what's wrong.

Connect the engine to a diagnostic computer to see what's going on. The computer can often give you hints to the real problem.

Why would the brake pedal shake?

Sounds like brake pulsation. Probably from the front brake rotors. Don't cut them, chuck them and get new ones, replace the beat up pads at the same time and adjust the rears-if drum brakes in back.

Brake pads/rotors are usually to blame for vibration during heavey or normal braking

I agree, new pads, rotors, all the way around will help. But if they are bad, you might want to have the rubber lines checked for cracks to ensure future safety.

A pulsating brake pedal which is known in the automotive world as spongy brakes is caused by worn or warped rotors/drums and/or shoes/pads. To correct this problem visually inspect the parts. If the rotors are not perfectly smooth then replace them.

2004 dodge ram2500 4x4when going over 60 mph you hit a bump the truck starts to shake violently What is wrong?

Worn steering and/or suspension components.

Don't drive that fast until you can have the problem repaired, and try to NOT drive very far.

Why does your engine shake when you put it in reverse?

Sounds like weak or very worn motor mount. IF you can be very careful.........pop the hood, set the e-brake and hold tightly on the brakes. Put it in drive and press on the gas, called power stalling. Do the same thing in reverse. Have the person watching the motor stand to the side and not in front of the car. Do it in an open area like a big parking lot. Most bad motor mounts will allow the engine to pick up well out of it's normal position. You might even hear a horrible clunk when it does it. Which ever side it picks up the highest on is probably your worst motor mount. Remember you could have more than one as well.

How long to replace a wheel bearing?

This really depends on the rig, the year? In general you should be able to do this within 2 hrs providing you have the proper tools. If you can be a little more precise with rig and year, I can give you a better way to go at it. Good luck:)

Will a stuck valve cause a Chevy motor to miss?

a stuck valve or bad plug or plug wire, or bad cap and rotor to include a cracked or missing vacum hose will make any engine miss.

What make a car engine shakes?

A car engine will shake just running. However, if it is a really bad shake, it could be the engine being out of time, a fouled/misfiring plug (s), a vacuum leak (depending on the year and make of the car), or even trash in the fuel lines going to the carburator/fuel injection system. I'm sure there are others, but these are the most common ones I've found in 40 years of driving and working on cars.

What does mean lean mixture or rich mixture?

The ideal fuel/air mixture or ratio for most internal combustion gasoline engines is 14.7 to 1. Meaning 14.7 parts air to one part gasoline. Any ratio below this is considered a rich mixture or too much fuel. Any ratio above this is considered a lean mixture or too much air.

Car gauges shake when turning on car?

Well, voltage wise, you have a lot going on when your are cranking over the engine, so some flutter, or shake is normal.

What is the thumping noise and vibration coming from my right rear axle on my 99 mercury marquis i already replaced tires wheels brakes rotor and rear axle bearing?

It could be a suspension part such as a control arm. I just had replace the rear control arms on my 1993 Toyota Celica because the bearings in the control arms were worn out. It made a lot of rattling and thumping; when I replaced the arms the sound stopped.
