Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

My impereza of 2000 chokes and backfire slightly when i start the engine for 2 to 3 minutes then its fine until i start again Please help if you know what the problem could be?

It may be time to inspect and clean or replace the spark plugs. When the ignition key is turned to "ON", the fuel pump builds pressure so the engine may have enough fuel to start. If the plugs are fouled or don't provide enough spark to completely ignite the initial fuel with pressure, the engine will choke, backfire, and sputter until the pressure is stabilized. After the initial startup and the fuel pressure is stabilized, the plugs ignite the fuel enough for the engne to run smoother.

Are ignition coils and ingition control module the same thing?

no .depending on year model, you may have one coil or one for each cylinder...the ignition control module is an electronic controller that communicates between the computer and the ignition system.... the coil,or coils simply receive 12 volts from the battery and magnify the current before sending it to the spark plugs to ignite the fuel.

If you have a 2003 Chevrolet impala 3.4 engine blown head gasket can you replace engine and it will solve the problem?

It will solve the problem. The 3.4 is notorious for poor head gaskets. You can replace the gaskets on the engine without replacing the engine, and that will solve the problem for quite a while. It will be much less costly than an engine replacement.

What would make my Peugeot 206 stall at traffic lights etc Would starter motor fault cause this?

Not enough info here to be sure of the problem. Is engine petrol or diesel? If petrol you describe the classic symptoms of a throttle potentiometer switch approaching retirement date, but could also be a gummed up throttle body/butterfly disc or a bad electrical connection to either. Disconnect the air intake trunking to the throttle body first and clean out any build up of soot/gum with carburettor cleaner, make sure the disc moves freely and not sticking. Other possibilities are manifold air pressure sensor or stepper motor (which controls idle speed) but normally this would cause the dashboard engine light to illuminate. Does it flicker intermittently? If so you need to plug in a scan tool to read off stored/pending fault codes which will pinpoint the problem. Finally send up a quick prayer and hope the fuel pump in the tank is not breaking up or you will need a very friendly Bank Manager! If engine is diesel, likely culprits are a blocked fuel filter, faulty injection pump/lift pump in the tank or dirty fuel injectors.......hope this helps a bit to point you in the right direction...good luck..

Why does my 1995 mercury cougar run fine until it warms up then it shuts down?

Hey buddy I am having the same exact problem with my fathers car and am working on it a little more today, here is some info as to what I already did to try and fix this phantom problem maybe it can save you time. I have a 1995 cougar XR7 3.8L distributer ignition & non supercharged that intermittently wont start. The usual scenario is that it starts up when cold I take it to the store, shop for 30-45min try to start & it cranks but wont start.I verified there is no spark at the distributer when it wont start. After waiting like 30min to several hours, depending on the phantoms whim,it will start. Also the cars ignition died while driving for a split second & I observed the rpm guage drop then it went right back on again as the cars ignition/spark revived.I replaced the TFI (ignition) module,Mass Air sensor, ignition coil & entire distributer assembly including the cam position/hall effect sensor. After all that the cars ignition died while driving and did not come back to life, tried to start it multiple times over a 2hour span on side of road,no luck, had to tow back to my house,it started when I tried the next morning,I just let it idle & it died after 15-30min span.I am now trying to locate a used PCM (powertrain control module) I wrote down the numbers on it and will try ebay. I can update you when I try the PCM swap, Tom.

Why does your G20 stall after trying to put in gear?

I have a 95 G20 that used to do the same thing. I replaced the knock sensor and the EGR Solenoid. Both of these sensor's can cause the idle on the car to be erratic and stall. If you buy the parts and do the work its an easy fix for around $200, the labor will surely make this around the $400 mark.

Why is the car stalling when you stop at light?

Well I am assuming that you car has a manual transmission, and it is stalling because you are not pushing in the clutch when you come to a stop. The more likely reason is because your idle is set to low on your car. Your most likely culprit is the carburetor. However if you car is fuel injection I would take it into a mechanic and get their opinion.
