I am under the impression that you can "loan-a-tool" from AutoZone....using this you can borrow an OBD-II code reader and follow the instructions on the tool to assist you on your particular make and model. Once the potential problem has been detected, the light can be reset.

There are pages and pages and items that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes with a scan tool. After repair light can be shut off with scan tool.

It will do no good to turn it off, It will just come right back on if you didn't fix the reason and problem that made it come on.

There is a problem with the emission system or Transmission. You need to have the engine scaned with a OBD2 enginer scanner to see what is wrong. Some parts stores will scan it for free just call some and ask them if thay can scan it for you. You will need a scanner to turn it off.

To start, the Ignition key must be in position II, engine not running. Locate the two diagnostic sockets just inboard of the washer fill cap. The "A" connector (shown above) has a jumper that is stored in the lid of the "A" diagnostic connector. The jumper is used for both diagnostic connectors. Now to clear the codes, push and hold the button for 6-7 seconds, release and as soon as the LED comes on push and hold the button for another 6-7 seconds. Now push the button for one second and read the codes again, you should get 1-1-1 (no faults). You Must Read All Codes before Clearing. Turn the ignition off and then start the car, the check engine light should be out. It is always a good idea to check for codes, clear them and then drive the vehicle to see if they return before replacing parts. The transmission can ask the check engine light to be turned on, so if you try clearing A2 codes and they wont go away try reading the transmission (A1), clear them , and then go back to A2.

After contacting a Volvo dealer, they recommended the Haynes series of manuals for the 850, each section details the codes and faults detected.

it sounds like you need to change the spark plugs and possibly the ignition wires

I have 98 Malibu 3.1. Miss-fire cyl #5 started in 2004. Changed spark plugs and wires replaced injector 5. Problem seemed to be gone. Came back couple years later. have replaced wires and plugs switched coils and still miss-fire #5. I live with problem. Never dies and clears up after 5-10 min. Happens when hot and sits for less than 1 hr.

ANSWER: Sounds like it might need a tune up at the very least. Take it to AUTOZONE or most any aftermarket auto parts supplier, they can hook up a reader to your car and find out what code is being generated which will tell you almost exactly what is wrong. Most places are glad to do this for free since they are hoping you will buy your repair parts there.

It means exactly what it says, low oil pressure. This means you should not drive this vehicle until you get the problem corrected. The oil pressure is not high enough to safely operate the engine. Otherwise you will have severe engine damage.

If it was actually caused by a loose cap, it will reset itself in a few days.

You have to hook up an OBD scanner to it. Most auto parts chains have one available, and can run a code diagnostic for free.

Not sure what you mean cng, but if you are talking about your check engine light on your car it means, you need to go to a car repair shop(the type you have if possible) and they'll put it on a computer that tells what is wrong. Can be a lot of things!!First you can see if you have enough oil in your car, and check all the fluids. But after that it could be a lot of things, from a missing fuse(under $1 to fix up to worst case , a cracked engine- which might not be worth fixing)

If you have an oxygen sensor in your vehicle running on cng can trigger that which causes your check engine light to come on.

Check the speed sensor on the top of the tranny. This will tend to build up with metal shavings and cause the sensor not to read the speed of the transmission.

Code 44 indicates a lean mixture at the oxygen sensor and it could be a variety of things from a vacuum leak, a bad fuel regulator, or a bad fuel pump. Also those engines were known for bad distributor shafts. It is best to take it to a mechanic.
