It means "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)" What that means is a tiny leak in the fuel evap system, most likely the gas cap. Remove and reinstall the gas cap (past the clicks) and clear the code. If the code comes right back, check the hoses leading to the charcoal canister near the gas tank under the truck for wear. My '99 Durango throws this code about twice a year, I just clear it and it's good to go for about 6 months. Oxygen Sensor There are actually (4) O2 sensors on your truck. If you look inside the wheel wells behind the fender liner, right about where the frame is one O2 sensor, the other is underneath the truck about half way back in relation to the transmission. If you see where the exhaust joints together, you went about 6" too far.

Have the cars cooling system tested at a reputable shop . The test you want to have done is a LEAK DOWN test which will give you a good idea where this problem is. Often this problem is due to a leaking head gasket.

I am having sort of the same problem. My coolant light comes on after I've been driving for a while or if my car has been idling. I have checked all of my fluids and the car doesn't seem to be over heating or running hot. Any suggestions on what might cause this? My dad seems to think there is a short in the wire or the sending unit.

The low coolant sensor is a poor design and prone to failure. Get this - you have to buy the bottle to replace it, as the sensor cannot be purchased separately. The good news is, just unplug it. The light will go out and no codes will be generated. Just check your coolant level from time to time, like we all should do anyways when we check other fluids.

According to my old-school-Dad, excess oil would be blown out the "breather tube"; better a quart low than a quart high (he would tell me.) Those were the days before the California Cat Converters existed, yet I know not if such a tube still exists, where it discharges, or why they would permit the expensive cat converter to be damaged by overfilling.

Sorry for the redundancy, but disconnecting the battery will reset the system. If the check engine light comes on, the most common problem is a bad oxygen sensor. That is why it was suggested that you replace them. If they are bad, you will be getting reduced fuel economy. There are 2 sensors: one before the catalytic converter and one right after the it. They are easily accessible, so replacement is easy.

Unfortunately you are going to need the manufacturers scan and diagnostic tool to be able to read your ABS or body codes. GM uses a scan tool called a tech 2 for abs, etc, air bag, and all body related codes.

Depending on the manufacturer, many coil packs mount on a large transistor plate that actually fires the coil pack. It's not uncommon for those transistor plate to fail.

It PROBABLY means a problem with the charging system. Take the vehicle to a local auto parts retailer, such as Auto Zone or Checker Auto and have them connect the charging system diagnostics. If it's not the charging system, the computer is telling you that SOMETHING is wrong and you need to check the computer to see what it is. Borrow, rent or buy an OBD2 diagnostic code scanner and see what it says.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
